Just bought this model today. Always check on CZcams to learn a little more than the Instruction Manual gives. Your 2 Part videos are great lessons for one such as I who lives on the fringes of modern technology. Thanks for doing them Evlain.
Good video as always Evlain , I have the 422GW with the rear connect to the HDMI port on the side of the camera . I find the quialty of the video acceptable from both cameras. I also use the suction cup only because I thought it was the easy way , but have suction cups on both my car and Campervan and have found they had stayed put and not fallen off as some I've used in the passed .
Thanks for this video Evlain! I’m about to have one of these dashcams fitted (hardwired), but the crucial aspect you covered was the iPhone app connectivity. I hope the issue you’ve highlighted has been resolved, as this may well be a dealbreaker. All in all, great product review 👍🏾
I agree that the quality of footage verses the price is overated. Regarding the App that you opened, you failed to touch the large 522GW picture that was at the top to confirm your Dashcam. The exposure is set to zero however if in poor light conditions such as winter with grey skies and or raining and night shots, try adjust the exposure to 1 and see how that improves yoru picture. The problem is if you then get a bright day with sunlight the picture will then become slightly over exposed.
Interesting video with great info. Just purchase a 522 and have been trying to get the phone connection working. Began to think it was just mine that is at fault, but from your video and other reviews is seems the issue is with all. It annoys me that a main point that Nextbase push in their sales is the connectivity and Alexa. But this aspect appears to be a complete waste of time. Without connecting to the phone it seems to be a good dash cam. I might keep it or I may return out of principle. I can't see the point of Alexa. Ask for music and it plays through the dash cam. Most cars have good sound systems which would go to waste.
Hi John, I always saw it as a bit of a gimmick to be fair. Although I guess on older cars it could be genuinely useful. Are you Apple or android? I suspect something has changed in the iOS Bluetooth implementation that has messed up the app, real shame because it would have been nice to have the ability to update the firmware. Hopefully the poor ratings will make them take some action.
I just got it today and it’s doesn’t come with the suction cup which I didn’t even know they had provided that before but not now! I even paid more expensive altogether. The app works fine for me maybe coz it’s been over 2 years since this being filmed. I've just installed my 2nd 522GWand confess I try and avoid todays technology where I can, bewildering. However, I have had two 'incidents' in 2 years that seem similar? The recent incident was last week, just days after the installation, by Halfords, I asked that the camera be powered on 24/7. I was parked in a public car park, sitting in the car, and a young lad who later confessed to be rubbish at parking hit my car as he tried to swing into the adjacent space nose first. My issue is that the recordings on the SD card stopped at 13:54 and restarted at 14:26 give or take a minute or 2. This of course covered the period of the impact. In fact I would say that 13:54 was the moment of the impact. Now, what am I missing ? where is the missing footage of the impact? Can anyone throw any light on the above?
Iv had my dashcam about 2 months I have a iPhone connected to the app.. what a waste of time it’s so frustrating, waiting for it to connect. I avoid using it and why have a live view on your app! I just don’t get it 🤷♀️
I've had ALL these issues with this dashcam in the last week, since it was dealer-fitted to a new car a week ago... SD card 'error' (replaced, no change), camera freezing at start up/random times (no access to menus)! Android app won't find/connect to dashcam and worst of all - rear camera 'not fitted' (it is!) Dread going back to dealer and waiting hours to get it looked at/fixed...
Thanks for the video, I find it interesting, I'll be purchasing the 522GW soon, I understand you're having trouble connecting the dashcam to your smartphone, since your smartphone only allows bluetooth 1 connection at a time, switch off the bluetooth on your Apple device in your car then try again on your Nextbase app, hope it helps.
1) DUAL FILES must be ON , if you want to be able to see the videos on a mobile phone. Has it only reads LOW Resolution videos. If turned OFF you won't be able to read them on your cellular phone. 2) G Sensor is way to sensitive for me. 3) Suction cup is not added in the box in my country. (had to find it extra )

I had the same problem with mine. Being detected on the Phone app. It took a good 4 minutes before my phone and the dash cam connected. Hello from London, Ontario Canada I clear my protected files every 5 days. It's for some reason they fill up really fast the protected file.

I purchased the 522 GW in October 2020. The fast SD card would not function. On purchasing a Nextbase 32 card, it filled up with in a week or so with protected video files. When my car was hit last week whilst unattended causing £300 of damage the dash cam did not record the incident. Because the SD card (Nextbase) I can no longer format the card and have to purchase a new one at approximately £20.00. Not a great design for me. I have purchased a new card and now awaiting delivery. Ill give it one more try......:( scores out of 5. I would give it 2.......

I have the 522GW. It worked fine until I bought the reverse cabin camera. The device just stopped recording at random. I stopped this by reducing the resolution to minimum on the dash cam. Alexa doesn’t work at all, even though it has connected successfully. Lastly, connecting to my Android phone is hit and miss.
I’ve just fitted this camera to my sons car and it didn’t come with the suction part or the hard wire connection. Plus my sons cigarette port is permanently live so he will end up having a flat battery so I’ll have to purchase a hard wire cable
Again from previous message my 522gw just stopped working after 1year.8 months deciding not to work even asking Halfords for help after purchasing it from them no joy from them this is the second next base I have purchased over the years definitely not going to be 3rd time lucky
Great video although I'm a couple of years late viewing it! I've had a 322 for a couple of years, and although I was pleased with it for the first few months, it's really been causing issues over the past 6 months or so. The app is a complete waste of time, have to keep impairing and pairing every time I use it. The camera also keeps resetting the time and date and just stops recording without warning so when I go to view a clip I find the camera hasn't been recording for weeks! Time for a change I think!

Hi.. Interesting to watch. Did you get time to play around with the gshock settings and / or park? I have a 522 front and a 422 independently set up on rear screen . Been on for around 15 months with no massive issues. Glare at night from rear lights ahead is always an issue when reading plates. Never really resolved that. I have had to replace the 522 after BMW messed around with it at a service and basically broke it ( long story ) so I have been setting up the new one and had really forgot the settings. My quandary is whether to have 'park' on or off and the same for gshock as I remember reading somewhere that even if these two are turned off the camera will still jump into life if hit. I checked the 422 though and found I was running it with 'park' set to on and the gshock off. This semed to work and cut out the unnecessary locked files I was getting even with gshock set to low. I found low was still too sensitive. May I ask what you have found to be the best set up for these? Cheers

I had my other removed because when out in my car and parked up I cannot see my home CCTV, unfortunately I am having the same problem. Do you know if I can get round this. Is it something to do with the wifi or the Bluetooth?
Camera i have no problem with..the app i do agree with you it needs upgrading..the only problem i have had is ..the camera just just shuts down with the nextbase logo showing i tried resetting but still comes up with the nextbase logo..then I tried taking out the card then rebooting the camera that worked straight away...the only thing that I think makes this happen is what you said about having a rear camera connected as I have that..and the sd card at 32 gig cannot handle both cameras recording at the same time..when I get a 64 gig card I will say what its like..regards.andy
Cheers Andy the app is poor. Maybe you have a Power issue? Does it have a hard wired supply. Mine only switches off once the car power is off and then runs on a short while on its internal battery.
@@eviain no not hard wired i have it run into the AC..the problem when you were trying to connect to the app in your car were getting a good wireless connection..if not I had the same problem trying to connect to your phone outside in the car but soon as went inside I connected straight away.
The price is not worth it. Sometimes it doesn’t record video and it’s hard to connect to the app. Also it doesn’t loop. I checked the videos one time and found out it stopped recording for two weeks. It’s useless if you have to prove something.
Hi. Kind of. Normal files are overwritten however protected files remain until the card is formatted, which would be fine if it only protected files at your request. However it is a little overzealous at protecting files it thinks, so I’d recommend frequently formatting the card.
You would have to bring them in to a movie editor and publish it as one file. They are designed to keep short sections so if an accident happens you don’t have to scrub through loads of video. Also if file becomes corrupted it doesn’t impact the whole. It also means the older files can be overwritten as needed

However, you didn't really explain that the many Protected files were made when the car was parked and the wind or whatever shook the car and started the camera rolling. In fact you never really explained this ability which of course gives peace of mind when you're away from the car. Unless I missed it!

Sandisk Extreme Pro V30 are one of the best cards. I use 32GB cards for 4K and 5.7K cameras. It works great :)

Got Dash cam today updated firmware using IPHONE 14 App works perfect video is great and sound, after 3 years NextBase has fixed things

Mine won't hold any charge . It is connected to my car battery and wont hold charge some days it wont work

If you had been patient then your camera serial number would have appeared in white box . Usually have to wait up to 2 mins like it advised!
Hi, I bought the dashcam because of the App capability. I have an android phone and the app works fine, unlike your iPhone issue.

Very poor show, they need to address the sensitivity of the recording feature or unlock older files so new ones can always be written

Additional to the last post. My phone is a Samsung S7 . A bit old I know but never had a problem with any other app's.

Suction cup I found better. But you must clean the glass properly. I used vinegar and water.
Defiantly Martin, needs to be super clean to work properly.

Hi, Just pull the card and plug it in to a pc or mac with an SD Card slot.
The price is not worth it. Sometimes it doesn’t record video and it’s hard to connect to the app. Also it doesn’t loop. I checked the videos one time and found out it stopped recording for two weeks. It’s useless if you have to prove something.

Couldn’t get my Android phone to connect to the dash cam at all. Even Halfords who cited the thing couldn’t do it. Poor app.
Mine has never linked to the app . Must be 12 months old now . I hate it to be honest. Very clunky
