    I disagree with the decision here. The knuckle guard can be corrected with no change to the blade itself. But the other guy's blade actually chipped. Blade damage is far worse than a knuckle guard that is only slightly too close to the hand. You can't fix the chip without taking a lot of the blade material away.

    • @redfinale
      @redfinale Před 4 lety +66

      first blade might have chipped but it still outperformed on the cut test, but a damaged blade performing better than an undamaged blade AND with less design flaw, it was more clear that the first blade was the better of the two to the judges

    • @judgedredd2039
      @judgedredd2039 Před 4 lety +8

      The Guard might be able to be corrected but the competition is about the state that it was turned in in not about what can be done with it in the future. The state the blades guard was turned in with was the failing point in the blade at that time.
      Up till the end it was any ones game but the judges felt the flaw in the guard was enough to out weigh the chip and roll in the other blade.

    • @brettleisy356
      @brettleisy356 Před 4 lety +3

      the lightness can be adjusted with a slight grinding, the guard can be adjusted, the performance of the blade itself is a lot to do with the tempering which can be iffy at best to re-do. for some mild "discomfort" to just happen to fit or not fit the judges hands, I have to say the blade itself outperformed more comfortable guard. if in a dire situation I would give up a little comfort to know my blade wont roll, chip, or nick up to bad.

    I really lile this show, but honestly, i think sometimes they should get someone, who knows how to fight with that specific sword.

    • @1014p
      @1014p Před 3 lety

      Yea not really gonna work. Many weapons of old no longer have masters of them. Take a look at asian weapons more towards Japanese. You would think dougs training would know how to use them. Not based the displays and formal videos out there about them. Youll see often the baseball type swing. This simply isnt common during sword use.

    • @kenai8445
      @kenai8445 Před 3 lety

      @@1014p no it isn't but there's more than enough people who know how to use European swords, HEMA et cetera, so at least for the European ones... I know what you mean though. Doug's training is good for Asian stuff and Philippino stuff, but not for Europe stuff
