HISTORY if forged in fire does requests, could there be an option to create a morgul blade from lord of the rings?
I'll tell you I think me and Frank Fritz Wicked bait everybody doing this will be there as soon as we leave a bar after we leave a bar we'll hit the interstate
You lied, in original language-- Danish(dansk).
What a true gentleman big smile on his face when is opponent was called the champion . Hats off to him
He even had a little tear in his right eye. True gentleman indeed, [salute].
@@Prague3203 that´s what I like about the show. everything I have seen so far had absolute sportsmen as competitiors
He was a legit competitor
I think he expected it. His blade wasn't terrible, but he knew he didn't do as good a job asn his opponent. The shape of the blade was wrong, and it absolutely reflected in the way it cut. He knew he lost.
By hat, do you mean bowlers?
Just the way swords wiggle in slow motion makes me nervous
I hear ya, but if they didn't wiggle, that should make you more nervous. A blade that isn't flexible will break.
@@spamhere1123 Or even worse, bend.
I think the first was a little too flexible for my taste but i no alot of chinese swords or. The pike with sword on end forgot the bloody name they wiggled alot good craftsmanship tho getting to flex like that but again my taste of swords need a bit more stiffning
I swear to God
@@esoterico6062 but this was way to much wiggle for it's job.
Definitely wasn't surprised about the winner, insane how flexible these swords were though.
I kept thinking that the were either about to snap or bend( NOWHERE NEAR EXPERT
It actually is very beneficial if the blade wiggles a bit. Not too much though because else you can't fight with it. But without it the blade were more likely to break or bend what would make it useless.
Flexibility helps them absorb shock, which helps with a blade of that size. Too stiff and a blade will break. Though one did flex a lot more than it should.
it's actually beneficial for a blade of that length to be flexible. If it wasn't it would just snap. As to how flexible a blade should be depends on the intended use.
While watching this show I love how all of them are such good sports and how supportive they are of their fellow blade-smiths
I need people like that
Now imagine if they were online. Man sheep are so cancerous over the Internet.
It's part of the producer's formula like everything that's the same in every episode.
Dude quenches in a tight tube with no differential heating first.
"Why it no curve?"
better results in a diagonal quench...
Sees first quench: This person obviously added some clay to the center and spine to cause differential cooling, otherwise this process doesn't make any sense.
Sees results of first quench: Nope.
he should of coated the lower half of the blade with clay during heating it would of bent it like a banana like the samurai sword smiths do
Mmmm, should have forged a curve into the blade in the first place and not rely on the quench to curve the blade for you. Duhh!!
You can't always rely on a differential heat treat to do the work for you. Put the curve into the blade during the forging process and worry about the consequences later
Looks like Doug is having more fun cutting a man-sized target.
Next potential Chinese weapon: Jian sword breaker
Other weapons I wish they'd do:
- Kusarigama
- Trident or Lu Bu's Halberd
- Monk staff
- Bardiche
- Pugio dagger
- Khmer Sword
Josh killed it and when you know he had to work with such a mall forge as he did makes you be even more impressed with his skill and crafstmanship.
Anyone else that will immediately know if a weapon breaks or not just by the length of the video?
@@pichaku272 I'm not alone XD
Edwin On if they start testing the weapon at 5:30+ then you know something is going wrong.
Not the length, but when they start testing.
@@ivodeboer7013 the dude on the right almost always wins
Nahh, mostly i knew from the way they did the heat treatment.
The “Zhanmadao” is translated in english as the horse cleaving sword.
Horse beheader sabre.. bit more accurate. Jian is sword, dao is more akin to sabre.
We can tell by the name, the Chinese were seriously invested into McDonalds.
Well, this sword was supposed to be used by anty cavalry units
@TheGreatgan I can speak fluent Chinese so I can tell you that you are very correct.
@Takumi Naemura I didn’t actually know that, thanks for telling me. I’m also Chinese, but my mandarin isn’t as good as my English.
I love the “it will kill” face he always makes, like some kid happy with his new toy.
Me when my mom gets me a toy sword: 5:50
For those who don't know the judges actually perform the challenges before the contestants to make sure they are doable. The knife expert (Nileson, Jason or Ben) do the first two challenges while David Baker does the final challenge since he is the historic weapons specialist.
"not so good for hitting pots'
Link: **laughs in Master Sword**
Yo Josh's blade looks brilliant. That design looks slick, and most importantly IT WILL KEEEL
ngl when I see the blade shake I always think its gonna snap
IM GONNA NEED YALL TO PUT FULL EPISODES PLEASE AND THANK YOU, IM TOO BROKE TO GET CABLE.

This show so nice back in 2017 who knew sword making show would have so much impact
8:33 that is pretty wicked slow mo footage of a savage slash.
i LOVE when people, especially the non-winners, show good sportsmanship.
9:33
The guy had tears coming outta eyes in control...
ok good i'm not the only one who noticed it lol
The test with the pots goes completely against everything that blade is designed for... you protect the edge with technique.
The sportsmanship among the contestants are pretty amazing
the reason why he didnt get a big curve in the blade on the first quench is because you want to quench in a horizontal quench tank so it has a more agressive curve
That and a lack of a hamon
@My Opinion is wrong, But nice name
Most importantly, in water
How does horizontal quench make a difference?
@@ninjahombrepalito1721 then the weight of the blade will slightly bend it towards the tip, so giving it a bid more of the bend it needs (if it needs it).
Nice swaggersouls reference behind the contestants
I just don't get it. When the Zhanmadao was revealed, the very first thing to notice, the essence of the weapon, is the sweeping curvature. How can one make it that far in competition and miss that?? Mind boggling.
That sword is straighter than me.
Ha Ha. Your Choice plus Problem!
But it isn’t bent?
@@visi7013 how dat a problem
Nick's outfit was on point. 😊
I just love the way he says "it will kill".
That B roll at the end is sick.
The fact he made his blade straight, that was already the death blow, so to speak.
I feel sorry for whoever had to clean up all that sand. It's the most I've ever seen while binchwatching these videos. Even though the winning blade took more damage, the other one couldn't even classify when it's lacking it's curve.
“Coffee and hate” hmm best way to start the day...
that blade is so beautiful that it looks like from a movie and cuts so deep holy
The zhanmadao 斩马刀 pinyin: zhǎnmǎdāo; literally: 'horse chopping saber' because the blade can run through a horse like paper. zhabmadao was a single-bladed anti-cavalry Chinese sword. It originated during the Han Dynasty (206 BC - 220 AD) and was especially common in Song China (960-1279).
run through a house you say?
I am Alucard Horse's legs or neck , not the whole horse mate😂
THANK YOU!! FINALLY someone other than me knows Chinese weapons history.
@Manu Vincent Claymores are much heavier to wield. Similar use but totally different idea in combat
this blade couldn't cut a pigs corpse :/
Josh made a Jahm Mah Do. (Horse Chopper). Nick made a Serng Sao Gim (double hand sword). Nice but not in the parameters
0:21 That's what she said...
😂u beat me to it
hehe
you know this is a good episode if they show more about the testing of the blades than the making of the blades.
I don’t know which is more exquisite... these blades or David Baker’s facial hair
That was one of the best episodes yet
Hi! We’re glad you enjoyed the clip! Thanks for being a #ForgedInFire fan!
Pls try to upload whole episode. Round 1 and 2 of every episode are also very good
I love how excited Doug is XD
Watching the guy who won make the handle and such with what appeared to be ease was pretty telling. Awesome.
*This is the first time I've seen someone with a shorter forge win the competition. Just proves the adage, it's not the size of the forge but the motion of the cutter.*
Nick just looks like a true gentleman
i hope he succeeds
Nick, if you read this... You're a genuine class act.
Love the nature shots. Small town America is paradise!
The second sword amazing. Good job! Respect
That blade really entered sandman
If Doug says that the weapons is well balanced you already know who is the winner
Not sure why I watch these videos but i love them
I would move to the USA, learn to forge and apply for this show just to hear this 4:59
It wheel keel
Love Nick but man I can argue that his blade just straight up missed parameters.
Love his sportsmanship and attitude
"You're gonna recreate an iconic weapon from history." *uncovers* "The Master Sword."
I love Forged in Fire now I have a Medieval Swords in my room😁
I have a all white 1095 carbon steel katana and a hand forged fraternal sword steel unknown
Do you use it to slay younglings?
You were the chosen one
"Fueled by coffee and hate" thats relatable asf
I noticed on the second blade on the strength test the judge hit the horse skull with the FLAT of the blade
Whenever it goes in slow mo on the strength test, I keep thinking it’s gonna break and I get anxious fsr
please have the winner guy as a judge he is really good
if you want to get a curve when quenching you must do the quench horizontal not vertical
completly out of subject and he says thats just wasnt my day LOL
During 7:08 the final swing in the strength test , the judge over swings the weapon and the shot cuts right before he impacts the metal beam behind his swing. Then processed to call out the blade for rolling. Looks like a clear case of him smacking it against the metal beam for damage rather than clay pots.
Josh's sword definitely deserved to win on performance alone, but also his blade had the correct design curvature. Nick's blade hardly had any curve to it. Two very nice swords, though.
I can't imagine how it would feel being told please leave the forge after hearing how your work was inadequate
You can tell Doug has a lot of fun getting to play with weapons all the time
Holy moly Josh with a blade great job my friend
4 days is no time to make a sword like that. Gifted men clearly.
Judges- Yeah you gotta forge this blade..
Contestant- I have never made a blade of this kind in my entire life...(standard ans)
True that, some even say:"I've never made a sword before!" WHAT DID YOU EXPECT BRO? THIS IS WHAT THIS SHOW DOES, MAKE SWORDS! AND WHY ALL OF A SUDDEN EVERYONES HOME FORGE IS A LITTLE 18 INCH UNIT THAT LOOKS LIKE IT WAS BOUGHT ON SALE AT WALMART,? ARE YOU SURE ITS A FORGE DUDE? IT MIGHT BE A B.B.Q!
Everybody needs to watch this. You can't always win. How you lose is a testament to your true character.
I just love this show so much
When the first guy held the rough forge I instantly though of Sephiroth and his Masamune
All I love in Chinese and Japanese sword is the length of blades...you can chop the enemy from a quite distance.
Good Lord, that thing is sharp!
Wow, Josh did an amazing job.
For the next challenge, you need to make double sided lightsaber.
One knew that he needed to pick up a curve in the temper but he doesnt know how to do it (a curve that would imply a soft spine and hard edge is why you'd want a curved edge) the other guy had no idea he just forged the curve in
Zhanmadao is 斬馬刀 in Mandarin Chinese, Which means "Horse slashing blade".
0:22 that’s what she said.
I know this is a bit unrelated but Nick's genes are on point man
This show is incredible
This is my favourite Chinese sword ever
Mongol run away when they see these zhanmadao unit coming at them.
Comprehensive 10 min video about two swords in 10 mins, wow! Good job!
Most youtube channels have a 45 min part 1 video -_-
Love watching this
Excellence, is a journey...
Weapons are so flexible, but in a movies are solid hard :D
2:21 the tip doesn't have much of a red-hot appearance, tip might be too soft. Kinda figured it would get deflections on the strength test.
Im surprised the fedora guy wasn't DQd for not meeting parameters. Both of those should've performed better for the size and style of the weapon. A little disappointing.
it barely passed the parameters probably, seeing how almost straight it was and shorter than the winner's sword.
Edge alignment be tricky. I don't think Filipino martial arts deal with two handed swords much, so it could be a bit of user error. Speaking from some limited HEMA experience.
Wraithninja1 they actually did have striaght zhans and more curved like a saber so i can see that it made the parameters google them up personally the first was to flexible but thats my opinion in the right hands that sword will massicre i mean it will in the wrong hands lol but both done an amzing job with the other just getting slight rolls from pots they should feel proud
it was a bowler hat
@@Ilzhain came here for this
Doug making those sounds like if he's a Yakuza. It's time for him to get the tattoos
The only TV show I watch and on YT
I love your tv show buddies!!! Great to see a BIG sword like this, maybe in the future you could try with the japanese masamune, as the one used by Sephiroth (Final Fantasy 7 game)
I started watching these to pass time now im just into it
Why didn’t these smiths use a clay submerged quench you would get the hard edge and flex in addition to a curve blade at once.
Probably no prior experience, a challenge like this is no time to experiment. It also won’t be *flexible*, it’ll just be less likely to break.
thats the former version of the Japanese katana. The Japanese katana is the combination of Han zhanmadao and Tang blade.
This quarantine got me watching some crazy things mannn 😂
Wow. Great and sharp blade. Well curved! Really wow! Good job!
This series should be the trailer for America
When I see Zhanmadao I would expect they use the blade to cut something run towards at them. But I love this show.
he made a awesome sword and will sell for a lot
The reason why the winner's blade took some roll off is because of its strenght when it hits the pots and skulls. The curve design made its impact stronger than the other straight blade.
Noice it will keeeeel is fully recovered. Love u doug
