    I moved to Spain from the Caribbean for the lifestyle and quality of life. I think that 3 hour break in the day and late evenings add to quality of life.

    The way of life in Spain and the late night culture should remain. This is a great attraction for many. I can't imagine it being any other way. Thanks for the video, Stuart 😊

    I remember years ago in Spain, when they use to stop broadcasting on TV just after their lunchtime and restart around 5 pm, if I remember correctly. The films on TV were also categorised into age groups, by means of 1 to 3 diamonds on the top right corner of the screen. I know, I showing my age here. 😮

    The late night culture is alive and well. In my visits to Bilbao even old people were out with their grandkids having food and drink and taking walks at midnight. Kids played soccer and played on play equipment while the parents and adults were nearby in the cafe. I wish our culture in the USA allowed this, I'm 65 and young family members don't hang out with me. Amazing.

    Siesta was a thing in rural areas where you can sleep where you work, not really a city thing you just do whatever you would do at evening. What do brits do after 5pm if everything is closed?

      @deniseg-hill1730 Před měsícem +1

      What are you talking about. 5pm closing. where did you get that from. I dont know anything that closed at 5pm. In the old days shops and cafes closed at 6pm, restaurants later. Chinese and Indian restaurants stayed open late. Pub hours were 10.30pm weekdays 11pm Fridays and Saturdays. Then that was scrapped so pubs can stay open as long as they like. There are late opening coffee shops cafes and restaurants and in some areas there are 24/7 mini supermarkets and bakeries. Not forgetting nightclubs and casinos theatres cinemas etc

    It's still raining and cold in La Mancha since February. We really needed the water in the plain. February couldn't march but april may June. It will stop raining the day barn swallows arrive, at least here in the Iberian Peninsula. We'll see.

    One way to control prostitution would be for the government to heavily regulate it, and tax it. The tax revenue would help with the budget deficit and could be used to contribute to the Nato costs--win-win!

  • @Gemarica

    LOL, Spain would be the only country in the world where the world’s oldest profession would disappear just because some politicians like to think they can. Thailand is probably their big example. No prostitution there too, nothing to see… according to the visually impaired authorities. Sweden is another country who made it illegal. So it does no longer exist in the open and the position of working women has become even worse now it is happening underground. Legalize, set standards for working conditions and enforce !

    ¡OTAN NO, BASES FUERA! Not NATO, bases outside off!. That was the motto PSOE made up before being at the helm in the 80's. Later on the road, a socialist minister was Secretary-General of NATO, the one who years before wrote a pamphlet tittled a hundred reasons to say no to NATO. On a lighter note, the mayonesse was not invented in May but in Mahón. Mahonesa or mayonesa in Spanish.

    I don't see that as "contradicting" information. An official government statement from the Defence Ministry and unnamed "defence sources" are entirely different things. Is that a genuine oversight Stu or are you trying to discredit the government?

    • @jacquesblignaut7844
      @jacquesblignaut7844 Před měsícem

      Is it really possible to discredit a government more than what they do themselves? I do not find any government credible, far left all the way to far right, none can be trusted. Only my opinion but is has been proven over and over again.

    Hi stu, always interesting. Politically I am annoyed at right of right and left of left parties. They become narcissistic clown shows where ruling a spectrum of societal viewpoints tries to force singularity. You end up with kings, dictators, science is replaced with biblical beliefs, and government becomes a magnet that coalesces the less educated. But that is just my opinion.

    Two points Stuart:
    1) Siesta
    I've heard the three hour break can be used for some rumpty-tumpty at home. It also means that employees are spending more on petrol and fares compared to northern European, non-siesta countries.
    2) Tourism Count
    This can work for France because all UK tourists will be registered at the point of entry and exit in the Schengen computer system, regardless of the length of stay. This wouldn't work for French tourists entering Spain.

  • @Helen14R

    Let’s be honest; prostitution is a huge business in Spain. And it attracts a segment of tourism. It may decline slightly but, will not go away. It will negatively impact many womens’ income. However, many of those women are immigrants there for work.

    Hi Stu, re football and racism…change can only be achieved by hitting clubs in their pockets. Cancel matches at home and impose hefty fines. If it continues relegate the guilty clubs.

    We have a law in the US that prostitution is illegal and it is still prevalent although you can go to jail for it. There are just not enough police to put a stop to it, and many other crimes are more important to deal with.

    Prostitution can never be eliminated as long as sex between and among the 99 genders is allowed because the other half of the transaction, the monetary one, can be done in one thousand and one different ways and hence is impossible to monitor...

    I think generally politics has moved to the left. The present Conservative Party in the UK is much more liberal these days. Consequently new parties spring up which want to return the party to its previous position. They are not “far right”, they want to return to traditional conservative values. The expression “far right” is overused and incorrect, along with fascist
