It takes 238 litres of water to produce just one Kg of avocados, let alone a litre of oil. Not a viable alternative to olive oil in an area which is already short of water.

What is the bank of Spain doing about having BBVA and Sabadell merging? Having such a monster ruling the banking market is a dangerous move as they can do whatever they want. Personlaay, I find this very dangerous as the other banks will.also merge and thus, clients will have just have to accept whatever they de ide. God help us when Bank deals with our money!

The reason that you don’t see olive oils from other countries such as Greece , Italy ,Portugal etc is that Spain produces its own and the best oil and is the largest producer and exporter in the world . Apart from the fact that the Spanish like to buy their own oil , so no demand for oil from elsewhere . But as one post stated , you can find olive oil from Greece, Italy etc in gourmet shops such as El Corte Ingles. Just like the wines (very small selection from other countries) low demand as wines are also excellent in Spain . In Australia it’s different because they have lower production so might need to import from other countries .

Avocado oil sounds to a Spaniard like something that glows in the dark. Mercadona sold it until recently and had to withdraw it because no one was buying it. It was abocado to failure.

Venice have now introduced a 5 Euro daily tourist tax. I think this needs to be challenged in the European Parliament. Schengen applies freedom of movement to EU citizens. It doesn't allow for an "entrance tax" to access parts of Schengen for EU citizens. I've also heard the current level of the Venetian tourist tax is only sufficient to pay for the administration of the tax.

My understanding is here in Yecla there is only about 200 unemployed from a population of 36000, but I have no idea how they calculate this. All I know is everyone wants to work for cash & no IVA so how they get classed as “Employed” is beyond me 😂😅😂

Sabadell is already a bad enough bank on its own. Dreading this possible merger. Thank you for keeping us updated.

Hello all. If pollenca is benefited with only 2.3% unemployment, then the 12.5% is high due to other regions. I guess areas without tourism, spain’s interior?

I've got a personal question for you, Stuart. Hope you can answer it. When you came to Spain 20+ years ago, did you have a college degree? Also, does one need to have a college degree to teach at one of those English academies? I'd imagine so. I know one needs to speak pretty good Spanish in order to teach English. I'm curious about the whole aspect(credentials?)of getting a job teaching English which I wouldn't be able to do till much later on, obviously. Thanks Stuart.

Hi Stu; Spain is not the only country importing people for "dirty work" jobs, the price of this cheap labour long term is deterioration of national cultural identity, tribalism, soaring health care and education needs. Funny thing, when countries once did not offer welfare, the people had to do the "dirty jobs" or go hungry. Used to be you started with the "dirty jobs" as an incentive to work up to something better.

I´m so glad peope are being caught and prosecuted for scamming people with distressed child scam. I know in the US it is a problem with the elderly; often using a grandchild as bait. The use of A.I in this is quite frightening since they can mimic the voice and picture of the " child in distress".

Mismatches in the labour market? 2o25 you can start buying human level robots - 1X Neo will be optimized for home work. Running costs like 1.5 USD per day. Have fun with all the lower wage jobs - and higher jobs - disappearing. Spain should prepare for mass unemployment. Fast. Pension age? Have fun with that one, too - the future is UBI, sorry, because in a decade jobs are few and far between. Also, age for retirement - prepare for a LOT of medical changes that push for - you know - a LONG healthy life (like 150 years at a start).
