    One could glue the macro lens in place using a small hinge to be able to flip it open to see the big picture and if you need to go closer, just flip it in place. Remote-controlled toys/planes use nylon hinges that would work quite well for it. On the opposite side of the hinge, you must implement some kind of clip to keep the lens in place, but it should not be that hard.
    Or, glue 2 strips of thin metal in front of the camera and add magnets the to forward-facing side of the macro lens. Then you can just pop the lens in and out, or combine the two, use a hinge on one side and magnet with a metal strip on the other side.

    I would have liked to order these items (thermal camera and the macrolens) from you. But dou to my county added import-tax and the extremely high shipping cost to send over from the states, it was not cost effective. So i bought one closer to home (still waiting for arrival).
    I won't forget this. And if this works out in future I will repay you with kindness for all that you have tought me/us. You are a big inspiration not only to me but also my kids.

    Wow, really clear and good video. Macro lenses are a life saver for boards. No arm strain now holding far away. Hope to see it used in more videos

    _This lens is phenomenal because I can clearly see the tinned endcaps of the SMD components!_ 👍
    _Alex, do you foresee a need to switch between macro and normal field of view?_
    _If so, could you ask the manufacturer about a hinged version of the lens, that swings out of the way when it's not needed? Thanks!_

    • @arsenicjones9125
      @arsenicjones9125 Před 2 lety +3

      I see a need. If you have a large board like say a console pcb you might want to view the whole board initially to locate the hot area then use the macro lens to locate the specific component. Using the macro lens and the camera held 1” away from the board might take longer than wanted to scan a large pcb. There’s of course a work around to everything so I wouldn’t say it’s strictly necessary to have a hinged or detachable macro lens if you’re only using the thermal camera for PCB work

    Alex, Glad that you have decided to stock the macro lens for the camera. There are designs for macro lens holders for your FLIR E60 as well. They just need to be printed and a lens ordered from China. Such lenses are very useful for PCB work as you have shown. 👍

    In what video do you show exactly how to record video out of that thermal camera? I see you have the cable attached to a computer and you mentioned having the computer and some kind of software attached, but what are the details? What exact setup do I need to get a 25fps video recording out of that thermal camera? Thanks.

    Hi Alex, I live across the pond and have been following your channel for a while, and was wondering if you could give me some advice on a xbox that is stuck in upgrade, is this a software or hardware issue? I have even tried a osu1 update from a flash drive but as it gets to the end it automatically goes to upgrade where it gets stuck again. Any advice appreciated Mark

    There are two lenses for this camera, one white (demo in this video) and another Z0002 (black), you know?? What are the differences? The are some problems reported with this UniT Thermal Cameras, the battery stops working in a few days and you are left without a $300 device... Anybody with this or other problems? Thanks a lot!

      It can be opened, meaning battery coul be replaced unlike the Flir cams. Difference with the black z0002 is it clip on the outer edges of the uti260b so you dont need double side tape

  • @hinny2005
