Just a quick update. None of my 10 4090's I've had since launch have melted. Including the 666w and 1000w xoc bios's ive flashed onto them. Had most models. Used nvidia adapter and DIYMod cables. No issues #userError

I have an MSI 4090 that I bought a year ago. So far so good and I play FS 2020 for hours on end. I do hope they change the plug design on the 5000 series when it comes out because the connector needs to be a lot beefier.

The 4090 is manufactured not only by its designer, Nvidia, but also by Samsung and TSMC. It's unclear which company manufactured the defective cards.

It's a 900w software controlled VRM on a 600w rated connector, the TDP of the card is irrelevant. More than likely illegal as consumer electronics. It weighs too much to be seated in a plastic PCI-e housing, with the weight card supported largely by the PCB itself while going through heat cycles. It's big, ugly and poorly designed and definitive proof they need to get someone realistic on the engineering team who has the nuts to stand up to management and say listen it's too big for it's use case and it needs 2 connectors for 400w TDP as the VRM for efficiency reasons needs to be at least double that. This is all because nobody stood up to a manager saying 1 power connector only and has to be the fastest consumer card by x margin.

It is beyond me how NVIDIA doesnt get a class action lawsuit to their ass. This is simply ridiculous.

write it down, what there has been said, and give it to the customer, if they cant read then record the voice with their permission, this is quite a difficult subject to deal with, recording the voice,, i dont think will do any good but write it down what have been said then maybe it could work?

Great video. Have an Asrock 6750XT that won't power up. In one board, ASUS board with 700 watt PS, card is dead, but MB fires up. Other board, MSI with 650 watt PS, card is dead, MB dead also. Boards work fine with another card. Never have worked on a Video card, but watching your Repair vid gave the guts to at least take this one apart and try. Thanks!!

Some company could make a fortune, if they made a 2 8pin connector, you could solder on the board and it would work but using the old 8 pin plugs instead of this 12vpwr connector.

Even the factory didn't have such solders, I admire the work you do respect😊

You should contact PCBWay and see if they can make a custom connector similar to what they used to make from Bakelite that will keep them from melting.

I have a 4090, and so far, no issues for over a year. Replacing the connector with the same connector is just buying time, it's not an updated part. I'm wondering if cutting the connector off the power supply cable, then remove the connector off of the card, then just solder the wires directly to the card... thoughts???

You need to get the NF Tea cosy to keep your tea hot.

I understand that spills etc can cause problems but is it the life span of components or over heating being the problem.
