      So that capacitor is just a filter cap that makes the power nicer for the chip. There are tons more on the board, so losing one of them is no big deal.

      Pcb designer here, sometimes we need a minimum no of caps for the right filtration of noise and other stuff. Personally, I tend to add a couple extra caps or more on top of that if it's a mission critical component, otherwise maybe a couple max.

    Hi been watching your videos for about a year now, I have used them to learn so much more about micro soldering then most other channels. I now use these skill every day at my job now at another repair shop. something I was not expecting is just how many laptops where the CPU is the component that is shorting out. is this normal or have I been diagnosing these board wrong. Say most of these boards I am able to find a short on the coils, injecting some voltage into them the CPU die heats up under the thermal camera. Would i be wrong in stating that board is a no fix?

    Hello from Sarajevo, Bosnia and Hertzegovina.
    I follow every video of yours and I am thrilled with your technique because I am a fan of technology.
    Did you replace the faulty capacitor in this video or did you just remove it to make the tablet work?

    • @mateomartinez9869
      @mateomartinez9869 Před 2 lety +2

      Well, not necessarily, I think it's probably a filter capacitor, in which case he can just remove the component and not put another back

    • @AmadonFaul
      @AmadonFaul Před 2 lety +10

      He left it off. The capacitors surrounding a CPU in a laptop are just there to bleed off AC noise from outside interference to ground. Capacitors pass AC but not DC, so the DC power is unaffected but RF noise is sent to ground. He left it because, in a small thin laptop or tablet, there's no room for one big capacitor for this job, so they solder a bunch of smaller ones in parallel near each other instead. For example, if you need a 10uF capacitor to bleed off the noise, but it would be too big, you can put five 2uF capacitors in parallel instead. Parallel capacitors total capacitance adds.
      So five 2uF caps in parallel is the same as one 10uF cap.
      Since there are so many caps around the CPU, removing one probably only reduces the total capacitance a tiny bit. Probably less than the allowed tolerance of the total anyway.
      Since you risk damaging the board replacing it more than the risk if you just leave it off, he just didn't put a new one in.
      EDIT: You can kinda tell they are all in parallel and are just filter caps by how crowded they are and there's kind of a pattern to them.
      It's not ALWAYS the case that caps can be left off because it's not always the case that they are for filtering noise and are just one among many doing the same job.
      But in this case it was.
      Go to 3:38 and you can see. It looks like a repeating pattern. That's a clue they are for noise and in parallel You can just kind of tell with experience.

    • @mateomartinez9869
      @mateomartinez9869 Před 2 lety +1

      @@derim006 no it has a purpose. It is used to clean a possibly dirty signal. @Amadonics told there are multiple capacitors that work together to do this job. But in reality, removing one capacitor isn't going to harm the electronics too much, it just decreases the filter effectiveness by a bit (but not enough to make it stop working)
