You can see your control centre and notification shade in previous OS releases from any app Johnathan. Just hold your finger on the bottom or top of the watch screen and you will see the shade start to appear.
Also the orb to set up a new device has existed for years.
I thought LTT/ETC didn't do supplement sponsors?
You can always bring up control center by pressing hard on the bottom screen 6:34
ya but nobody use these features
I was very surprised to see such a sponsor on an LMG channel when I first watched the video but I thought I might just confused the policy of LMG regarding suppliments.
But then Linus said in yesterday's (aka June 16) WAN-Show that he doesn't do supplements sponsorships (~15:25).
You might want to double-check the policy on that one...
As an Android user, I appreciate when Apple releases really great QOL features because I'll get the same features in a few months when Google copies them
As an iPhone user, I appreciate when Google releases really great QOL features because I'll get the same features in a few years when Apple copies them.
I feel like my android phone already auto fills 2FA texts and emails in many cases. Not always though.
@@chrys9256 how glorious that people who constantly fight can bond over companies copying each other's homework
This! I don’t understand when people complain about Google/Apple copying each other. Like?? Users benefit!
Albeit implemented a lot worse in android lol
This channel is so unique. Every other channel I can think of would have done like a "Top 10" or something like that. I love that Jonathan goes the extra mile with everything, even if it's just a glorified list of features.
he fits the idea of an apple focused channel... very well
Mac Address is the Apple of Apple tech review channels
That text to speech feature is _really really_ good considering that the training and the inference both happen on the phone with quite limited amount training data. I was expecting something much worse like the voice cloning thing they showed in a WAN show a few months back.
That’s the coolest part in my opinion, it’s all on device you don’t have to pay for a cloud subscription, or some Janky custom solution with APIs. That being said, the quality is appreciably lower than some paid services. So cool though and still genuinely useful and good.
There's a whole industry of voice banking services out there for people diagnosed with ALS, many of which charge thousands of dollars.
I do not doubt that their product is superior to what Apple is offering, but the fact that Apple is making this feature available for the cost of the cheapest iOS 17 capable device deserves praise.
I have seen way better ai voice programs that needed just few minutes, but it's a start, neverrtheless, it is very cool
@@shakyor875 Local AI programs?
I think going around the office, asking & telling about the new updates/features, makes for far more entertaining content than just simply reading a list and showing some screen grabs and video snippets! Great work Mac Address team!
Agreed, makes it feel so much more social like a real conversation instead of it feeling like they are giving a speech
I also enjoyed this format
That's one perk of being part of now rather hueg operation that is LMG.
6:08 you could actually summon the control center from anywhere with a tap and hold on the bottom of the screen, though i’ve only figured this out on accident. the new method definitely seems a lot more intuitive
was about to write the same. also it works for notification centre on the top side of the screen.
Yes
WOAH. Had no idea! New way is definitely more intuitive. I bet they changed it because people want access to the control centre but aren't aware of the existing gesture, and the dock is often unused (I spoke to so many people about the dock being removed who just responded with "The what now? That button on the side does something?").
Wait what? I can’t seem to figure this out. I need a explanation of this one here.
Button on side of the phone? You mean the power button. Or the volume controls?
@@YeYo.ON2 nope, just hold down the bottom of the display for like 2 seconds and it will pop up and then you can swipe it up

Love this style of video. So much more fun than the average “listing out features with screen capture” type structures.
I’m not even sure why, but I find myself loving this channel more and more with each new video.
6:11 no, you just need to hold the button edge till you get a Taptic feedback and then scroll up
Just tried it and it works! Wish I had know that ages ago, thanks
@@mysteriousm1 Yeah it annoyed me so much that I tried everything to get it to do that haha
That text to voice feature is genuinely cool and useful. Shocked some of this stuff wasn’t in the presentation

6:15 You can actually access the control center from anywhere in WatchOS if you tap and hold before swiping up from the bottom of the watch screen. Handy tip for current/past WatchOS versions.

Not everyone deals with it. Also to some of those (not all) who never get any attention in the dating world, ironically they wish for something that that.
This type of video for new updates is way better than just saying what’s new. You’re actually showing it in action and what it is etc
I am mind blown I just learned more from this video than Apple's own keynote some of these features are very useful , thank you for highlighting these features
You could always use Control Centre on watchOS in apps. Just have to hold briefly on the bottom of the screen and swipe up. Notification Centre is the same.
Great video bro! Happy to hear about all of these new features! Love from the U.S.
It was great to see Emily in this video! My wife uses an Ember mug too. :)
This "nude detection" sounds like Apple's way of sneaking towards iCloud photo scanning. If the detection is done on the receiver's phone I don't think it's as much as an issue, but it sounds like more intrusion by Apple to me.
most of their detection stuff is done on-device afaik
It is done 100% locally, on-device. The iCloud CSAM thing was meant to work completely locally too, but people freaked out so they cancelled it.
What’s hilarious is this CSAM whatever they made might be getting lots of false positives from teenagers sending them nudes to each other lol.
Non-western culture where that is socially forbidden would have worked okay… but for the West, yea, gonna be rough for AI to distinguish what is what.
Does it matter if its black box controlled by Apple?
@@MatejaMaric It was initially announced that it was going to be iCloud photos. People freaked out because their photos were being scanned in general. This detection is directly related, they planned it back in 2021.
I was thinking while they announced Posters that you could create a very rude one which would pop up on the iPhone receiving the call. Also the same with FaceTime previews etc. Apple seem very trusting that people will be responsible with this update...
I love mac address, always just a different great view on tech, and I loved all the parts with steven, especially the webcam moment.

6:12 Fun fact. On older watchOS releases you could, in fact get to the control center from any app. You just had to hold your finger down on the bottom of the screen
You could always summon the Control Centre from anywhere in WatchOS. You just hold your finger on the bottom edge of the screen for like half a second until the grey bar appears and then swipe up.
So nice to see an other type of video about the new systems. 🙏🏻
@6:04 Control Center on the Apple Watch has been accessible in any app in past versions of watchOS.
You only had to hold the bottom portion of the screen, wait for the Taptic Engine tap you, and motion the upwards as normal to access it.
It’s good to see Emily back on screen! Always appreciate her perspective on tech.

@@choahjinhuay I honestly never understood the point of not using the pronouns that the person in question prefers.
It's not about understanding why someone would want to identify as a different gender, it's perfectly fine if that's weird to you. But what's the point in deliberately going out of your way to use the pronouns they had at birth? At that stage you're just being an ass on purpose.
You always could access the control center on watchOS from anywhere (as well as the notification center) - you just had to hold before swiping
Thanks
Regarding the headset top strap, according to Myke Hurley in Cortex podcast, Apple told him in the hands on experience thatr the top strap is being worked on and thus was only shown once in the entire keynote.
5:14 as someone who accidentally opens notifications occasionally (particularly when the app doesn’t correctly open what it’s supposed to) this is a something I would actually love to have, but it seems better as a choice rather than affecting all users
If you're curious, the widgets in MacOS Sonoma don't snap to a grid, they just "stay wherever".
Ask me how I know...
they snap if you put them close to each other, its pretty clever
You can access control center from any app on watchOS 9, not just from the watch face. You just have to rest your finger on the bottom of the screen, then control center will float up above your finger.
This is your best formatted video to date! i really like the witty banter with your co-workers and how you use it to highlight multiple opinions of the new features. i don't even like apple and i would keep watching this kind of video just for fun. keep it up!
2:13 Your the first video I have seen demoing this feature, thanks!
The notification interaction is a bug, it has been around for a while and seems to start a lot with beta's. The bad news is that it gets stuck inside your backup so restoring won't fix it.
Also the "sensitive photos" are checked with on device machine learnings and developers have an API to do the same in any app, the check happens pretty fast.
Apple is growing to be the company everyone loves to hate on but simultaneously, you tell them about some feature they have and people are like “wow I want that”
I changed to apple 2 years ago and im not looking back. Hating apple now days feels like fanboys hating based on a time where android phones were innovating every year.
Apple still deserves criticism but the overly dumb hate has to die out its tiring. The dumb hard and software wars are so childish.
I don't want Apple to be scanning photos I send and receive. Sounds like a privacy nightmare.
@@l4kr The scanning is on the device itself and is opt-in, it isn't sending the photos to Apple. So it seems ok (for the moment). Either way there's the slippery slope possibility of it gradually getting worse so best keep an eye on such features that's for sure.

I love the type to talk thing. I took a medication that had to dissolve under the tongue and for me took about a half hour. Which meant I couldn’t talk during that time.
My son could understand me enough to talk without actually using my mouth / tongue much cause he grew up like that, but most others can’t remotely figure out what I’m saying even if it’s a simple yes/no. So I had to type it and show them, But this is way better.
One of the obscure features I noticed in the beta was that in any video or photo you could zoom and instantly crop the pic with a button on the right side of the notch.
It's very useful if you're trying to set something as your wallpaper!
I thought Linus said he's not taking sponsorships from supplements....
Well he's not the CEO anymore is he? I'm not sure on the new CEO's start date.
Why is the iPad Pro 1st generation with the A12X getting no update? See 5:38.
Even the iPad Air 3rd generation with A12 (no X) is getting the update. This must be wrong...
I do not know how many people actually use it, but I LOVE the accessibility features Apple puts into their devices for YEARS now. Starting with simple stuff like reduce brightness, going to insane stuff like Real time obejct/surrounding detection. Just incredible.
Factual correction: the control center can be summoned in any app in WatchOS 8&9 as well, one just have to long press either the bottom or top of the screen for the swipe to become available. Try it, works very well.
Im guessing the next major macOS release (after Sonoma) will be the one to drop all intel CPU support. Its been a good run.
I hope the first gen Apple Silicon macs still get support for many years to come though. My uncle bought my cousins some of the first generation of the intel Mac Mini's and they are in an unfortunate possition of having only 4 supported major os' (Tiger, Leopard, Snow Leopard, Lion [needing a RAM upgrade]). I am also glad that they gave the remaining brand new intel computers a bit more life. I have a pretty much top of the line Powermac G5, and it only supports 2 major OSX systems.
I think they wait for a couple more. They’re only dropping 2017 with this one and there’s still a few more years of Intel Macs after that
Nope, it will likely be the next two / three releases, apple still released intel Macs in 2020, and the Mac Pro was released in 2019.
I’m so afraid of the way you’re holding this iPad 0:14
You can actually access the control center ANYWHERE already in WatchOS 9 by holding your finger at the bottom edge of the screen until you see the control center “peek” up. I didn’t know this for the longest and I was so relieved when I found out because the amount of times Id be jamming to some tunes and need to find my phone, but wouldn’t want to go all the way back to the watch face (first world problems, I know 😂)
This video just felt good, whatever you're doing keep doing it :)
I gotta say, it's features like this that make me think about switching teams.
I'm curious, which ones in particular?
@@waytoobiased Google and OEMs vs Apple.
I thought Linus wasn’t a fan of supplements and didn’t want them as sponsors? Or does Max Address get to do their own thing?
You have been able to access the control center on watch in any app for as long as I've had mine. All you had to do was long press on the bottom of the screen and swipe up.
Legitimately a good amount of neat little features
I REALLY hope the new notification behavior gets the axe. As a recent switch from android and windows, the extra actions to perform the same tasks has been by far my biggest annoyance.
Or maybe have it as an option in settings
i don't understand what he meant by that, it didnt change for me in iOS 17, still a single tap will open the app
Something nobody is talking about and I can't wait for it: sharing music in carplay. I hate that my car does not allow a second bluetooth device to play audio while carplay is enabled on my phone. I have to put my music playlist, which nobody can control, instead of letting a passenger to be the DJ
6:10 You can actually access control center on watchOS now by holding your finger on the bottom of the screen for a moment before swiping up.
The intonation and pacing of that voice feature is impressive.
That thing to assist the visual impaired seams inanse. My guess is that it will be kindove niche but it seams amazing

I'm unsure whether it was changed in this iOS 17 beta but I only noticed it after updating.

Which I'm happy about because I still daily drive my Bose QC 35iis over my AirPods Pro.

I'm real tired of people forgetting that the word harassment exists. Receiving an unwanted nude isn't sexual assault Its sexual harrasment, because no one can cause physical harm by sending a picture.
Dude it's 2023 and words are violence now... In these times, anything is a possibility!
Yeah, that was stupid from him. Like he was just trying to please the wider audience but has no fucking clue what he actually is talking about
"
The term sexual assault refers to sexual contact or behavior that occurs without explicit consent of the victim"
Unsolicited nudes are absolutely sexual behaviour that occurs without explicit consent of the victim.
I was thinking the same thing.
It's constant word creep. Assault is something that does not and cannot happen over the internet, there must be some form of physical contact.
And the same people who would call an unwanted nude 'sexual assault' probably see nothing wrong with a male identifying as female using the women's locker room, even when biological women say they do not want to see nude males in their space.
suck up in person, but over a phone is assault. This is backwards land.
yes, they try to make anything seem much worse. i get what they are trying to do, they try to raise certain crimes to a worse level, so that they dont get brushed off as easily. what it is doing tho is just making the actual harder crime appear softer, since you just get used to these worde and they dont mean anything anymore.
You could access Control Center from anywhere by holding your finger along the bottom edge of the display. It was that way for years.

With ios 17 the dangerous thing i thought was the nfc sharing and it doesnt work with android phones but the danger is that malware could be shared
iOS, and mobile OSs generally, have a much smaller attack surface than desktops. Even if you want to it's very hard to execute code with all the popups and confirmations. In order to execute malware on your device through the vector you described, an attacker would need a nasty zero-day vulnerability AND be physically very close to you. This makes the likelihood extremely low. Such a vulnerability would be worth millions so it would only be used to target high profile and valuable targets. Your average Joe wouldn't need to worry about this at all. iOS also have create Lockdown mode for this purpose, an "extreme protection that’s designed for the very few individuals who, because of who they are or what they do, may be personally targeted by some of the most sophisticated digital threats"
TLDR; not something to worry about.
As an AI researcher, technically that text-to-speech is extremely hard to train, given that it requires only 15 minutes to tailor the voice. It's impressive that Apple nailed it.
Those accesibility AR-looking features shown there wouold be interesting on the Vision Pro
6:14 Actually You’re able to access control center on the apple watch already from every app. Simple touch and hold the bottom of the screen and you get to pull the control center up.
Personally I like it this way better and find the app switcher quite useful (I use it far more frequently than the grid view).

I was shocked by the backlash she had. I measured LTT viewers more than that. Anthony, Emilie, whatever, a brilliant mind and a cornerstone of the company.
@@harmvzon haven't seen that much.
