My Top 65 entries from United Kingdom in Eurovision (1957-2022)

- Here's my Top 65 of the British entries in Eurovision so far.
The UK has famously had a very good track record in the contest up until about 1998, and since then has had a famously bad track record. I honestly don't think the quality of the UK's entries in the 2000s for example was really any worse than their entries in the 70s or something though. The UK was very often overrated by juries in the 20th century, and fairly often underrated in the 21st, although the last few years before Space man I think were particularly poor songwise. Overall, the UK has sent a lot of entries that I think are just "fine", but I hope this year sets a good precedent for the future.
Hope you enjoy!
Everyone, please give respect to the country that always sings in its own language🇬🇧❤
“THEYRE NOT SINGING IN THEIR NATIVE LANGUGE, THEYRE NOT SINGING *UNITED KINGDOMISH* AAAAAA 😡🤬” - probably some of those people
To me it seems like they only sing in "correct" English. What anout the different accents, like Scottish?
So glad you love 'Love will set you free' (12). The UK has many beautiful ESC-songs. 'Say wonderful things' (63), 'It's my time' (09), 'Love shine a light' (97) and 'Sing little birdie' (59) complete my favorite 5.
2012 entry is still a masterpiece i’m glad that you have it in your top
My local radio station in Germany sometimes plays old songs from the 50s til 90s and i´m always suprised how many songs from UK & Ireland (especially from the 70s & 80s) were participated in Eurovision. They were big hits in Germany back then and are masterpieces today. (Like Johnny Logan, Brotherhood of Man, Cliff Richard, The New Seekers)
Probably my favourite eurovision country of all time

Tbh I don't think the UK is as bad as most people say (they're better than Germany, at least), but there was a noticeable lack of effort in most of their recent entries until Space Man lol (2017 being the one major exception)
Taste for loving Engelbert’s boomer ballad… also in my top of 2012😅
Interesting to see how the UK went from the heroes of eurovision to mediocrity at the turn of the millennium. They used to have a pulse on what's going on music, and especially in the 1990s, even tried to push the envelope. The 21st hasn't been kind to them so far, but hopefully post-Space Man, they could have a renaissance and go back to those constant top tens.
Love Shine a Light is an anthem, but my favorite is Rock Bottom! It's so charming and witty, and oh so very theatrical. (I also love Why Do I Always Get it Wrong--it hasn't aged at all)
It's largely due to the fact that competing countries are now longer hampered by that rule that competing countries have to sing in the primary language(ex. Finland must sing in Finnish.). It also hurt Ireland, too.
I can't say I'm excited about the UK in Eurovision. In fact I'm surprised when I really like a song - Frances Ruffelle, Scott Fitzgerald; Sam Ryder; Jessica; Lindsay Dracass, Imaani; Katrina and the Waves; Lucie Jones are very nice. Cliff Richard of course. And yet I love English pop music of all eras.
No way is cliff worse than jemini wash you ears out son
One of the best countries in esc. The number of low grades in this video surprised me a little
My top 10 of the UK 🇬🇧 in Eurovision (1957-2022):
10: 2022: this song is amazing and deserved second hands down. 9.5/10.
9: 2006: this song is so unironically amazing. I love the performance and Daz has such a good charisma. A really big guilty pleasure. 9.5/10.
8: 1993: such a banger with a great performance. 9.5/10.
7: 1969: this song is so amazing and Lulu is so charismatic. 10/10.
6: 2017: perfect masterpiece that has such a chilling performance.
5: 2011: I love their song All Rise but this is such a bop. The performance is vocally amazing and the song itself is perfect. 10/10.
4: 1967: Eurovision classic. Amazing song that is amazingly performed. 10/10.
3: 1981: this song is amazing and the performance is perfect. 10/10.
2: 1968: A Eurovision classic that was robbed of a win. 10/10.
1: 1997: A Eurovision classic that deserves its status. It is a perfect song. 10/10.
Honourable mentions: 1990, 2021, 1982, 2000, 1987, 1983, 1971, 1970, 2008, 1996, 1959, 1995, 1973, 1960, 1999, 1977, 2007 and 1972.
Even though nowadays, the UK have taken a bit of a tumble personally in terms of quality they are really good. They sent so many good entries back in the day and they definitely deserved their high status and nowadays I definitely get why they have tumbled in results. They have sent many iconic songs and I hope they take 2022 as a learning curve and get back to their former greatness.
You typed 1997 twice ^^;
Aaah… the United Kingdom of Stuff. Great results for the most part pre-99, and for the most part deservedly so. I know I’m biased, but I’d say the 16 silvers speak for themselves 😅
UK 2012 gets too much hate for being a ballad, when there’s a lot of boring ballads in recent years that get praised and are just about breakups :/
It’s rare to find someone who doesn’t despise Electro Velvet
I always liked 2015, and it’s one of the first Eurovision songs i ever listened to. The live performance was pretty good, especially with the neon outfits. The song is also good
Its because it's not good - the lyrics are cringe. I guess the tune's ok and Chain of Lights is worse.
What does the second figure mean? I.e 8th out of 12 If it means where they placed that year, Knock Knock Who's There is incorrect, it came 2nd not 8th
That's where I have it in my ranking.
My top five are Love city groove, imaani,Sam Ryder, Sonia and Gina G

Sam came 2nd this year but your list says 9th out of 40?
9th in my ranking, not the actual show.

United Kingdom is honestly hard to describe, because their successful period always had a few overrated tunes here and there, and their unsuccessful period has had a few underrated tunes here and there. diserved nr.1...and i love Engelbert´s Song and that you place it on 3 :-)
My country :)
Unfortunately for the United Kingdom, in all 65 times they have entered the competition they have always been in the final.
Most random order ever!
I hate Teenage Life - love a Brit. My mum would approve of Mary Ann's low rating she's always hated that song.
