Welcome to the new millenium! In contrast to you, I thought 2000 was a good year...in relation to the years that surround it (1999, 2001-02). The production was solid, and there were a number of good songs despite the overall dullness (not you, Ping Pong! I respect everyone's tastes, but Be Happy feels like a fever dream lyrically. The artists had good intentions, but it frankly didn't work.) My top ten: 1 pt: MLT 2 pt: FRA (I actually found this quite relaxing! I like the guitar riff at the beginning and the contemporary sound of this one). 3 pt: NOR 4 pt: ISL 5 pt: TUR 6 pt: DEN 7 pt: CRO (I actually like this! The lyrics are poetic and protective, and the instrumental is mysterious and dark. The only gripe I have this one is the woman in the back ground--while I appreciate the transformation, it still creeped me out). 8 pt: RUS - This is where Russia starts taking Eurovision seriously, and I really like this Britney Spears-influenced song! It's contemporary while having assertive lyrics about leaving a relationship, and I actually didn't notice Alsou's vocals! 10 pt: LAT - Six years after their fellow Baltic nations debuted, Latvia finally arrives, and I think this is their best entry. The performance needs a bit of time to get used to, but I find it really sunny and whimsical. It reminds me of riding my bicycle on a sunny day. 12 pt: SWE - But this is so epic, and I love the combination of pop/schlager and ethnic elements here. It's rousing and proud and determined--honestly, I would've preferred this to win rather than the entry they actually won with in 1999. I've also heard about people preferring the original Swedish version--I get it, but I think the English one holds up just the same!
I actually didn't notice Alsou's vocals at all until someone else pointed it out to me. It doesn't detract from the song much for me, but now that I notice it, it's hard to forget it.
Yay, my first comment! 2000 is a special Eurovision year for me because it was the year I was born. Many of these songs sound so old, almost nineties-like, but they’re still listenable. Here’s what i think: 🇪🇸 Kind of boring, but nice. / 🇳🇱 A little chaotic! She voiced Mulan, apparently. / 🇫🇷 France should send these kinds of chill songs again. / 🇨🇭 One of the many ballads I like in the modern Eurovision. / 🇭🇷 The staging is unique. / 🇮🇸 I love this one! It’s really happy and reminds me of better times in the world. / 🇫🇮 So calm and peaceful. I heard they could have sent Nightwish. / 🇷🇴 An interesting song. He sounds very different, but mainstream. / 🇪🇪 Very happy early 2000s pop song, and she seemed a little nervous on the big stage. / 🇦🇹 Another nostalgic pop R&B song, like a newer Supremes. Or the Mamas from Sweden 2020. / 🇲🇰 People don’t like this one, but this has a catchy melody (if they sang better). / 🇩🇪 German humor is interesting. He hosted in 2011 and didn’t change one bit. / 🇮🇪 Oh no, a slow song! His voice sounds cute and his hair is cool, I guess. / 🇩🇰 Everyone likes this one, but I think it would be better acoustic. The Olsen Brothers did have a lot of experience in the Danish national finals though, and it’s great they won after all those years. / 🇱🇻 My favorite! It’s so carefree and reminds me of a time we can never get back. / 🇮🇱 Also interesting. They all thought it was like a joke, which makes it even funnier. / 🇬🇧 People say ABBA would sing it, but it’s more like something you could hear at a house party. / 🇧🇪 This is kinda underrated, its about valuing life. / 🇨🇾 Very dramatic, but I like their 1995 song more, with the orchestra. / 🇷🇺 It’s a little cliche with the lyrics, but the melody and the staging are great. / 🇳🇴 This is fun, like a Christmas song from my childhood. / 🇲🇹 I love this one too! It’s really positive and I agree Claudette has a really really good voice. / 🇸🇪 I wish I liked this one more like everyone else, but it’s so different from what any country has sent before (or after). Definitely going to get used to it. / 🇹🇷 I really enjoy songs that are in this timeless Spanish-like style (like Finland 1989). I feel like I’m at a dimly lit restaurant when I listen to this music. The dancing in the background is cool too!
I agree on the low point, and Turkey being my #1 also. There's really only a couple songs from this year I like at all including Turkey, Croatia and Malta, Latvia too.
My top 24: 10/10: 1. My Star 🇱🇻 9/10: 2. Yorgunum anla 🇹🇷 8/10: 3. Solo 🇷🇺 4. When Spirits are Calling My Name 🇸🇪 5. All to You 🇦🇹 7/10: 6.On aura le ciel 🇫🇷 6/10: 7. Once in a Lifetime 🇪🇪 8. Don't Play That Song Again 🇬🇧
Low point indeed. Not as many awesome songs as I would have wanted. But it is what it is, and this is quite the special year, when my country debuted! Here's what I think! 24. North Macedonia 23. Israel 22. The Netherlands 21. Switzerland 20. Spain 19. Belgium 18. Austria 17. Cyprus 16. Finland 15. Norway 14. Latvia 13. Romania 12. United Kingdom 11. Germany 10. Estonia 9. Turkey 8. Russia 7. Malta 6. France 5. Iceland 4. Ireland 3. Denmark 2. Croatia 1. Sweden
Yay, someone noticed the schedule! (and my bad planning) I do typically have the video ready for Sunday Morning, but sometimes I just fail at that and end up doing an evening upload. It'll be here soon, I just need to write my comments!
In terms of song quality, I don’t think the ESC ever truly returned to the high point it was at between 1993-1997. As for the staging, AMAZING! The best contest we’d see in a long time, imo. My points for 2000: 1p 🇱🇻 Latvia 2p 🇷🇺 Russia 3p 🇩🇰 Denmark 4p 🇮🇪 Ireland 5p 🇹🇷 Turkey 6p 🇸🇪 Sweden 7p 🇭🇷 Croatia 8p 🇪🇪 Estonia 10p 🇲🇹 Malta 12p 🇳🇴 Norway
Here are my personal votes/rankings, i'am from the Netherlands 12 points: Russia - Alsou - Solo 10 points: Spain - Serafin Zubiri - Colgado de un sueno 8 points: Sweden - Roger Pontare - When spirits are calling my name 7 points: Estonia - Ines - Once in a lifetime 6 points: Romania -Taxi - The moon 5 points: France - Sofie Mestari - On aura le ciel 4 points: Finland - Nina Aström - A little bit 3 points: Denmark - Olsen Brothers - Fly on the wings of love 2 points: Latvia - Brainstorm - My star 1 point : Ireland - Eamonn Toal - Millennium of love
This certainly was a low point for Eurovision, but not the worst one in my view. There’s a lot of bad or forgettable songs here, but the other half are actually pretty good. I expected to hate this year going in, so I was a bit pleasantly surprised by the fact that isn’t as weak as I expected. Below is My Top 5 1. Sweden 🇸🇪 2. Latvia 🇱🇻 3. Turkey 🇹🇷 4. Denmark 🇩🇰 5. Cyprus 🇨🇾
HAHAHAHAH I love Macedonia and Israel too 😂😂 So bad it's the best thing to ever happen~ My least fav from this year is, idk, the bad songs are really bad and I don't know how to differentiate My favs are Denmark, Iceland & Sweden, and I think Sweden might even be my winner! Which is really odd considering I had it 16th on the first watch 😆 anyway this year sucks ass lmaooo, only 2002 is worse imo and yes!!! The uk was so underrated this year!! Love that song
I'm sure if I didn't appreciate the vocal disasters this year would be my least favourite of all time. Luckily that's not the case, but the shortage of great songs is really what drags this year down. Everything outside my Top 5 would be outside my Top 10 in one of those mid-90s years.
It's not a fabulous year for me but I have a lot of guilty pleasures. But the winner is OBVIOUSLY North Macedonia, one of the funiest songs I've never heard. Also the only time since 1986 that Cyprus isn't in my top 10 24 Austria 23 Romania 22 Belgium 21 France 20 UK 19 Croatia 18 Finland 17 Latvia 16 Norway 15 Spain 14 Cyprus 13 Malta 12 Germany 11 Turkey 10 Iceland 9 Denmark 8 Netherlands 7 Israel 6 Switzerland 5 Sweden 4 Ireland 3 Estonia 2 Russia 1 North Macedonia
24- Not heard it much. You know why 23- Heard this more and its great 22- I like her deep voice, deserved more 21- About 10 years too late this 20- Not my style here 19- Cleaner meets owner. Just think of that 18- It's extremely cheesy 17- It's sweet but not for me 16- A feel good song. Really good performance 15- It's the girls from Sister Act. Great song 14- Awful vocals, although we all know that 13- Great fun, I love Stefan's energy 12- It's sweet but pretty cheesy 11- I really like it, good winner 10- He's a crooner. The ladies went crazy for him. Good song 9- Moving one from this 8- Our entry, the beginning of the downfall but is it really that bad 7- Her voice irritated me towards the end 6- I hate their vocals, nothing works here 5- My favourite, my heart melts every time I hear this 4- I love this as well, Norway's answer to the Supremes 3- Great song, so catchy and I want more of Claudette's energy 2- This is so epic. Everything about this screams Eurovision 1- Not for me unfortunately. Turkey never always impress me
Israel and Macedonia are those entries I just can't stop watching...
For all the wrong reasons I’m assuming 😹

Hi - do you know when 2001 would be uploaded?
Yay, someone noticed the schedule! (and my bad planning) I do typically have the video ready for Sunday Morning, but sometimes I just fail at that and end up doing an evening upload. It'll be here soon, I just need to write my comments!
