- Here's a recap of all the songs that competed for Russia in Eurovision Song Contest from 1994 to 2021, now with some better footage. Please, enjoy!
Russia has participated in the Eurovision Song Contest 23 times since their debut in 1994. Russia won the 2008 contest with Dima Bilan performing the song "Believe". One of the most successful countries in the contest in the 21st century with a total of ten top five placements, Russia finished second with Alsou in 2000, Dima Bilan in 2006, Buranovskiye Babushki in 2012 and Polina Gagarina in 2015; third with t.A.T.u. in 2003, Serebro in 2007, Sergey Lazarev in 2016 and 2019, and fifth with Dina Garipova in 2013. In 2018, they failed to qualify for the final for the first time in their history. The Russian entry has been chosen through both internal selections and a televised national final titled Evrovidenie, with their most recent entry (2021) being chosen by the latter.
Following exclusion from the 2022 contest due to the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine, on 26 February 2022, the Russian broadcasters VGTRK and Channel One announced that they would suspend their membership in the European Broadcasting Union (EBU). The suspension was made effective by the EBU on 26 May, preventing Russia from participating in further Eurovision events unless their membership is resumed.

2. "Don't be afraid" - самый что ни на есть "Russian" язык.
3. За всю историю выступлений Россию представляли евреи, болгары, коми, удмурты, карачаевцы, татары, error #404 not found и другие, но ни разу русские.
4. Ладно, соглашусь. Других 9-ых мест не было.

На вкус и цвет. Мне за всю историю российских выступлений только Алсу нравилась, и то я тогда училась в школе и от нее фанатела, как все. На Евро вообще редко хорошие выступления можно посмотреть.

"You Are The Only One" will always be number one on my top. And in my opinion, "Lost and Forgotten" is very underrated.

Interesting fact: "lost and forgotten" was supposed to make fun of the Eurovision format (namely, the monotony of Eurovision songs), but no one understood it then. Even that year there was an unusual performance "crowing" that took 2nd place at the national selection, you can watch
Надеюсь, что Россия больше никогда не вернётся в этот конкурс. Нашей стране надо себя уважать , и не участвовать в нём, что бы баллы не терялись, и жюри не занижали нам оценки потому что РОССИЯ сильная. Конкурс давно не честный и грязный . Я убедился в 2016 году, когда у Сергея Лазарева просто украли победу. Там всей европе было понятно, что песня You Are The Only One была самая лучшая но искусственно оказалась на третьем месте. Конкурс политический а у песен нет границ , и нет политики но Европе это видимо нужно. Так что прощай Eurovision!

It’s sad to see that because of politics some of these performances were ranked lower then they should have but let’s be honest, the Russians put up a great show all the time especially after the 90-s when they understood what Eurovision is about ❤

Дима Билан со своей липовой победой (высший бал дали только страны пост совка и русскоязычный Израиль) и рядом не стоит. К тому же песня на русском языке. Со временем ее выступление оценят

That's interesting... We finished 9th on both the debut and the last performance. 27 years, 23 participations, 21 artists, 17 countries, 14 "top 10" songs, 5 languages, 3 songs which never were performed, and 1 victory... That was a beautiful journey indeed...

Russian Woman is one of my favorite entries ever. Wish it got top 5 (even though that top 5 was solid) But Sergey's two preformamces (especially scream with those vocals) were also memorable.

Тату вполне могли бы занять первое, они и ехали на Евровидение тогда абсолютнейшими фаворитами, не имея конкурентов :) Но они проиграли сами себе: относились к конкурсу несерьезно, забивали на репетиции, поэтому налажали в финальном выступлении с вокалом. Увы, а так была бы первая победа России на Евровидении)

Тату официально и взяли первое место. Там просто с подсчетом голосов намудрили. Сами тату в интервью говорили. Что пришло письмо с Турции, мол извините вы первле место. Но только видео формат иначе все отобразил. Концерт то прошел.... вот и победа с горьким привкусом.

✅ Russia covers 40% of Europe, so, without Russia, this contest can be called "Half-Eurovision" or “Semi-Eurovision”.
✅ The Russians are the largest people in Europe, which gave Eurovision a huge number of popularity, ratings and views. Population of Russia: 150M.
✅ Russia was one of the strongest Eurovision countries, which very often took one of the highest places.

True, it's such a powerful song, secondly, it will probably come up on every list of CZcamsrs who are ranking their favorite countries or the most successful countries, until Russia comes back, if they'll ever come back.

The 2009 entry, with Russia sending a song in Ukrainian, now in 2022 it looks like sci-fi material.
To think how close those countries used to be and how culturally close those countries are yet a conflict escalated is heartbreaking.

We were never "brothers", Europe, know that. And the year 2009 is in the Ukrainian language in a song that represented Russia - it's all money, contracts, producer Anastasia Prykhodko and the like. She translated half of the Ukrainian-language song into Russian, and performed from Russia, although she is a citizen of Ukraine.
these countries have never been brothers, that's totally russian narrative to believe in. Imposing that the Slavic countries are brothers was a very convenient policy of identification starting from the russian empire, and then the soviet union. Study history and develop empathy - it is always easier to blame everything on one politician than to understand 300 years of colonial policies. And face the truth after all - that's not a conflict but a pure war of russia against Ukraine, the country which set out on the path of emancipation from "good big brother" and must now defend itself for this.
''Lost and Forgotten'' is such a unique song. An emotional troll entry xD

Russia was one of the few countries (if not the only one) in modern Eurovision to take the contest VERY seriously. Most of the acts they sent were huge stars in their native Russia (and former Soviet/Eastern Bloc countries) at the time they competed. Only few times they sent novelty acts or "The Voice/X Factor/Idol" like winners, as most of Big 5 or "traditional" Eurovision countries do. And maybe that's why Russia used to get high positions in the finals (and NOT because an "Eastern Bloc complot" as many tried to justify that): sending great performers. The best they have. I hope they can return soon. But I know it's kinda impossible, that it'll take AT LEAST 5 years from now
I agree, most of their acts were spectacular and their performers are also some of the biggest name in Russia as well. Russia really took the contest very seriously, that's probably one of the reason why they always had great results during their time participating in the ESC. I believe Russia will come back someday, the contest is lacking something without Russia, plus the rating is dropped this year, that said a lot about losing Russia in Eurovision. Serbia & Montenegro were banned from competing for over 10 years and finally made a comeback in 2004 (it would've been 2003 if the number of participating countries was under 26) so I would say that anything can happen, we just have to have faint and wait for it to finally happen.
@@quangminhtran2916 I've been in Russia for holidays in 2017, and I can tell you the artists the music tv channels played were at least 80% former Eurovision contestants! But not only from Russia, but also from Ukraine, Belarus... as a Eurofan, to me was seeing known faces all the time!
no, russia takes eurovision FAR more seriously than it should be taken; for russian broadcast, russian tv channels (mainly Pervyy) and even for the fuxxking russian government eurovision is a whole battlefield they use for propaganda of their pro-russian and imperealistic narratives. russia is not on the 1st place? well, its because europe is full of russophobes, because our 'lovely' neighbours aka Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania hate russia so they wont give us 10-12 points. and after every ESC final there is a tv show with some random politicians and 80 y.o soviet singers gossiping & picking participants bones (e.g discussing whos queer, whos a slut, whos drug-addicted).

Not only Russian politics is involved here, but also Western politics. And Eurovision is losing any strong country in terms of creativity, and the contest itself is losing its properties. I am Russian myself, but I think we have nothing more to do in this competition. We need to learn how to vote with a song and not with politics, and this was not invented by Russia.

@@user-qn1cx5qw9i это в глазах смотрящего. последние пару лет конкурс и правда слабоватый, а вот 2018-2019 были намного сильнее, скажем, 2017 или 2014-го. это, кстати, видно и по отрыву баллов - иногда победитель очевиден уже в начале голосования, как в этом году или в 17-м, а иногда до самого конца идут ноздря в ноздрю сразу несколько крутых песен, как в 19-м или 21-м
ну а про европу... к чему она пришла? ввп растет, с газа и бензина семимильными шагами переходит на возобновляемую чистую энергию, ковид успешно пережила, сирийских беженцев в 2015-м успешно интегрировала, дороги строятся, кино снимается, туристов с каждым годом все больше, и по-прежнему со всех сторон туда рвутся беженцы, в тч нелегально и с риском для жизни. значит именно этот регион земли почему-то считается лучшим для жизни. или вы слышали о толпах, прорывающихся через Верхий Ларс в Россию со стороны Грузии? Из Финляндии по болотам в Карелию? Через Амур на надувных матрасах из Китая? Люди голосуют ногами, Елена Петровна. Ну, те, которые мозгами пользуются, по крайней мере. Уж не знаю, как там у вас...

The truth is that we already miss Russia from the Contest...☹️☹️
We're all are, yes we hate the war and the suffers that the Ukrainian are dealing with at the moment but ESC is lacking a great deal losing Russia. The contest lost about 22 million viewers this year is a proof that they'll eventually need Russia to comeback. Russia has always been consistent through out their 27 years on ESC, probably one of the best country in the past decade along with Sweden, Ukraine and Italy.

The 2018 one is honestly a joke, I don't get how did they come up with that shitty of a performance, plus the singing was bad, too. Such a song and a performance that no one want to remember it was a Russian entry.

@@petitepastequeuwu7876 oh my friend, I do understand how nervous and difficult it is to sing live in front of millions of people, and don't get me wrong, I don't hate Yulia and her singing, it's just that her choice of song that year was really bad, and she even missed the cue to sing which was probably the reason why she failed to qualify. I prefer her 2017 one though, it was a really great and emotional song that could've earned Russia yet another top 10 placement if she was allowed to compete that year.

You’re kidding, they only won once in all the time they were. At the same time as many other countries during this time won if not 3, then 5 or so. The same Ukraine won three times. They are very pitiful and weak, as Europe sends its virtually unknown new performers, while Russia sends only accomplished singers. I’ve never seen Adele or any of the other famous singers at the pageant. Even for comparison, every time Ukraine sang in its language, it won. Except for the 16th (the song was in English and Crimean Tatar), and the 21st of course. There is much to consider, Europe did not lose much when it removed this garbage from its ephir

Russia is a country full of musical talent, with brilliant people. They have shown this by bringing great artists, of all genres. No country has shown so much seriousness and variety in so few years. "Russian Woman" is one of the most important songs for our country, for many young people this song is painful, because men often leave their families, sexism and patriarchy prevail in our country, so in Russia this song and the singer were very much condemned. It's sad that people from other countries appreciated our pain more worthy of our fellow citizens.

Мне жаль, что в 90е там не было кабаре Академии, а Тату должны были быть там в 2001м. Очень жаль что отборы у нас это кумовство и коррупция. Очень жаль, что к отбору материала на евро продюсеры во главе с Эрнстом относились настолько недальновидно. Большая часть песен это какая то шляпа. Надеюсь Киркорова больше не будет там ни в каком виде. Надеюсь будут привлекать талантливую молодёжь со свежим взглядом, с неизбитым интересным материалом. Если конечно Россия когда нибудь вернется на это мероприятие. А так, если опять шляпа будет, лучше и не пробовать.
Билан, Гагарина и Лазарев - лучшие, как с точки зрения индивидуального профессионализма и мастерства, так и с точки зрения репертуара на Евровидении❤

So I can pretty much sum up Russia's 27 years in ESC:
1994 - 1997: Russia was trying to fit in and finding their place in the contest but didn't quite successful despite a great start finishing 9th in 1994.
2000 - 2009: The Golden Age of Russia, most of the performances are great and they finally found a way to stand out.
2010 - 2012: Russia suddenly has a step back and sending questionable entries despite managed to placed 2nd in 2012.
2013 - 2016: The Renaissance of Russia, they seemed to get back on track and sending some of their best entries yet.
2017 - 2018: The Dark Age of Russia, the first time they unqualified to the final.
2019 - 2021: Russia continued to do well and placed in the top 10 both years, the 2020 entry's music video is the most viewed video in ESC's official youtube channel.
I hope one day when the war is over and the Russian people finally has freedom and at peace with Ukraine they would make a huge comeback to ESC, I missed them and their acts so much.
People in Russia think they don’t have “freedom” because people from west keep telling them that. But if we compare “freedom” in real live in Russia and in the western countries we found out that people are free, or maybe in some cases Russian people has more freedom than westerners.

Практика не выбора, а назначения того, кто поедет на Евровидение, сослужила России плохую службу. Некоторые исполнители представляли кого угодно только не нашу страну.
Выступления, песни и вокал Сергея Лазарева и Димы Билана - вот это высший уровень. Победа Димы Билана была абсолютно заслуженной. Жаль что Сергей Лазарев не выиграл с песней "You my number one". Для меня это было самое лучшее выступление за все годы выступлений России. Еще, достойное выступление было у Полины Гагариной и Алсу.

I just love the fact that Russian Woman was their last entry, so not only will her surface always appear on the thumbnail of Russia In Eurovision videos, but her song would also always appear on the videos of CZcamsrs ranking their favorite countries or who are ranking the most successful Eurovision countries. Or also in videos about the last time each country qualified. That's a great thing, bc it's a slap in the face of her nay sayers and critics. And 'critics', who're just using insults and don't havr anything substantive to say. I kinda wish, it was their last entry ever, bc it's a great way to close things down, but on the other hand, I want them to come back, bc they mostly sent strong and competitive entries to Eurovision. Except for 2018 (although 2011 wasn't really good either)

✅ Россия была одной из сильнейших стран Евровидения, которая очень часто занимала одно из самых высоких мест.
