Moldova has participated in the Eurovision Song Contest 18 times, debuting in 2005. The country's best result is a third-place finish for SunStroke Project in 2017, with their song "Hey Mamma".
Moldova's debut in the contest in 2005 was successful, with Zdob și Zdub finishing sixth. The country also reached the top ten with Natalia Barbu (2007), DoReDoS (2018), and Zdob și Zdub and Advahov Brothers (2022). In total, Moldova has reached the final twelve times, failing to qualify from the semi-finals in 2008, 2014, 2015, 2016 and 2019.

Moldova just understands the contest. They do their homework every single year! Romania could learn something from them.

BTW, read interview by Teodor Andrei in one of group dedicated to contest in social media and he said that TVR did nothing to prepare him fine, he even couldn't change his performance normally because broadcaster showed him concept of stage performance too late and did not accept Teodor's ideas and even threatened with court to his mother. If this information is true it's a big shame to TVR.
I don't know how Moldova almost always manages to qualify and sometimes does so well when most of its entries are so bad. Most probably it is geopolitical voting.
@@thetruth9494 Most of them are really good, especially the ones that did well. Considering a lot of these have a specific eastern european flavor I'm gonna go ahead and guess you just dislike that type of music, but that doesn't make them "so bad" as you've said.
I love how unpredictable Moldova is. Will they send a weird pop song with an epic sax solo, a group of men singing about a train from Chisinau to Bucharest or a song about Moldovans dancing? It is always a surprise and I absolutely love that about them

The chances are small, but the biggest possibility is to end up a meme like the epic sax guy from the band Sunstroke Project
To me Moldova is like the funny kid in class thats actually funny and just keeps the atmosphere nice, but while they r there they dont get exactly the amount of appreciation they deserve. If they d be gone (the funny kid) they d be very missed and everything wouls become dull

@@drpopandfizz yeah, thats the problem sometimes, NF stages are smaller compared to ESC usual Stage, thats why entrys like Moldavan, Serbian, Slovenian and Portuguese, this year get so low
Really telling that when Moldova sends their most straightforward pop songs that play things completely safe, they get NQ. Truly a country that benefits from its cultural / quirky touches within their music to great success! They’ve got what it takes to win someday, I can see it!
Also Zdob si Zdub truly don’t miss, 3 entries across 3 decades and all of them have made left half, it’s truly impressive what charisma and generally fun music can do for a band’s success!
That’s because those straightforward pop songs are absolutely trash. If they sent actual good pop they would still get good results, but they’re better at ethnic entries so they should stick to that
Just like how Finland flops when they send pop but succeeds when they send metal. Their only win so far was a metal act.

Moldova in the last years really had a fantastic upgrade. So sorry for Pasha, he deserved better and for Anna that in 2019 didn't qualify with a good song
Pasha undoubtedly got caught in the stampede to Sweden for Juries, and Finland for Televoters. Looking up the details on how he actually scored before things are converted topoints is the real issue. The points announced are misleading.. THey are simple based on a ranking from that country... and dont actually say that no one voted for an act. Just that they werent in the top 10 for that country.. so if someone came 11th in many countries, they would get no points, even though they were better than 15 other acts!
Yeah, Anna should have qualified, maybe she will come back and qualify next time.
@@ZakhadWOW yeah, I guess, they likely came 11th to 15th in a lot of countries, which is always a shame, but on the other hand, it's also a result someone can be proud of. If you're scoring in the better half with most countries, it means, you've done something right. If you're outside of the Top 20 with almost every country you didn't get any points from, probably not so much.
Seems like Moldova has had quite a bit of success in the contest overall, while largely retaining their cultural sensibilities. Would not be surprised if they win in the next few years.
I can promise you.. TVR wil lnever EVER want to actually win.. they probably nearly had a heart attack in 2017.. THank god for Sobral steamrolling everyone! LOL TVR has a tiny studio in Chisinau ( I looked it up and zoomed in on the bldg etc). They are amazing in funding the delegation every year.. I'm, guessing the parliament wants to see it always go as a huge boost to their tourism publicity. I have no doubt that thanks to ESC (and now the Russian threat on their own border) the world knows a lot more about them.

What can you say about Moldova 2019?
Theyre probably my favourite country in the Eurovision. They almost always have a fun catchy songs and I love that they keep reusing their artists because theyre so great.
They're broke as hell and ALWAYS give it their best effort and it pays off most of the time
They are my favourite country for that reason, and they have some amazing musicians. I'd like to see the Advahov Brothers bring a folk band some time. Their collaboration with Zdob si Zdub really lifted that live performance
The Fact they came 3rd in 2017 is why I love Europe so much 🇲🇩🎷🔥🔥🔥

The fact that they have not qualified ONLY twice in their 18-year Eurovision history, and have sent four artists/bands multiple times and managed to do well in the contest itself is just really amazing! I really hope they'll win in the near future :D

Moldova is consistently one of the most underrated countries every year, and every year they astonish everybody with how well they do. They're my favorite country without a win, and I foresee a victory for them in the near future.
Moldova is the proof that returning artists work even if they don't win, in most of the times they sent returning artists their results and their songs were amaaazing. They definitely know how to Eurovision. Love to Moldova from Brazil!

Moldova always delivers nice tunes and lovely performances. Its hard to choose my favorites although i was so enthusiastic with 2005 and 2006 Loca. But botn Sunstroke projects tunes are still excellent to dance to! Also like ethnic beats such as 2009, 2012 and 2022. Thank you Moldova for all the great tunes you offered us.

@@drpopandfizz eventually we WILL get Aliona Moon back too... She barely lost to Pasha in the Jury vote in CHisinau this year.. And the song wasnt that good itself - but she did amazing. I've been in relatively good contact with her since 2013, and am thrilled she is finally pumping out new music.

I don't know what Moldova do but most times they qualify to final, they always got unexpected places. I mean qualifying from 8th place and jumping into 7th in the final is shocking fr.
Despite her imperfect English, I particularly liked 2008, Geta Burlacu's entry. Very classy, refined, an excellent song.
