- Here's a recap of all the songs that competed for Romania in Eurovision Song Contest from 1993 to 2023. Please, enjoy!
Romania has participated in the Eurovision Song Contest 23 times since its debut in 1994, and has placed in the top ten six times. Its best results were achieved by Luminița Anghel and Sistem in 2005, and by Paula Seling and Ovi in 2010, who both finished in third place. Selecția Națională, a song contest that has been taking place every year in Romania except for 2021, has been used to select the country's entry for the Eurovision Song Contest.
In 1993, the year before its first appearance, Romania attempted to debut in the contest, but came last in the qualifying round. After successfully joining the following year, poor placements followed until 2002, resulting in several relegations. This changed with the introduction of semi-finals to the contest in 2004, after which Romania reached the final 14 times, failing to qualify from the semi-finals in 2018, 2019, 2021 and 2023, the latter finishing with 0 points.

The delegation did theodor so dirty. If they actually cared about the artists and invested some time and money he would've had a better staging and probabaly a better result
They probably knew they'd waste money and time if they invested for THAT song ☠😂 I don't wanna be mean but this wouldn't had any chance to succeed even if they invested more money and time. Of course, it's sad for him but no can do when almost nobody likes the song.

@@joachim5332 no no, what i mean is, the broadcaster chooses the songs thst take part in the National final. They get a few hundred selections and narrow it down from there. If they had no faith in DGT why did they allow it to compete?

The Acoustic Intro was the best part in my opinion
Fun fact: Anton Ovidiu participated in Romanian national selection for Eurovision 5 times, and when he finally achieved success and won he got disqualified.
It's sad, of course, but for some reason I laugh every time I remember this fact.
And btw his song in 2016 was amazing.
I was so pissed off when the EBU did that. They could have easily have waited until after the 2016 contest to ban them, or announce they would not be qualified to participate after that contest. I really liked his song, and would loved to see him perform. Truly sad.

@@krekkerman7540 because TVR didn't pay the EBU their debts they accrued from 2007 and they disqualified the broadcaster (and Ovidiu) two weeks before the contest.
I feel bad for Theodor, he got utterly discarded by his delegation and now has to live with a 0 point result and by far Romania’s worst result because his delegation screwed him over and ruined his Eurovision experience, especially with him being so young.
Honestly Romania needs to take a break and rebuild again, they’ve been really going downhill since 2018, it’s so sad to see

His delegation essentially told him after he won Romania’s national final that he would have to pay for the majority of things, including the trip to London and all of the staging. They left him with literally no support at all

If I was a TVR executive I would’ve dropped the national selection and chose to bring a huge Romanian star to Eurovision, like Inna or Alexandra Stan

Usually very big artists don't participate in music competitions.
seeing as they slowly realized how bad Eurovision gets (and the belief that EBU is biased against them), I wouldn't blame big artists not joining. the last time an actually popular artist or band represented Romania was in 2015, with Voltaj placing 15th in the grand final, and since then, only Roxen had gained any significant fame of all participants outside of Eurovision, and we know how her entry turned out to be. you'll see people getting interested more in "Vocea României" (The Voice, basically) and "Românii au talent".
as for TVR, well, yeah, either reform the National Selection again to what it was before 2019 (because they managed to create a chain of semi-final failures themselves, not the televote), or have a private broadcaster take over the license to air the contest on television. I wouldn't be surprised if we either stopped participating altogether or we sent another weak entry in 2025 (or later) because of TVR's recklessness of not investing enough in their winners, and the fact that Moldova of all countries cares more about Eurovision despite being completely inferior to Romania geopolitically, especially in recent years, speaks volumes.
we Romanians know we have absolutely no chance of winning, unless something like the 2005 and 2006 contests happens once again, which severely favored Eastern Europe and disfavored the Big Four (or Five) plus the host OR, somehow, a good joke entry gets sent (even if joke entries only got up as far as 2nd place)
I think Romania have sent some strong songs.

Romania did not qualify to the contest in both 1993 and 1996, but after the semi-finals were introduced they only non-qualified for the first time in 2018(but now they've only qualified once in the last five contests)
Hungary also didn't qualify in 1993 and 1996😅

One thing I'll never understand is that someone thought it would be good for Theodor's only dancer show up for exclusively the last 10 seconds of the song.
I'm not even from Romania, but Tornero is still one of my fav Euro songs
Poor Theodor, the way his delegation and broadcaster treated him was horrible. I hope Romania learns something from this. I don't want them to withdraw, but a year break would be a good thing for them. They used to be a powerhouse of the contest, I hate seeing how low they've fallen.
What happened to Romania in the last half-decade? They were amazing from the mid 2000s to early 2010s

For me, Romania never had a bad entry since 2003 and deserved to keep the 100% qualification streak they had until 2018.

Romania need to get their act together in this contest. Since 2017, they've gone down hill and a lack of effort seems to be an issue. I cant see them coming back in 2024, but I hope I'm wrong.
Am I the only one who likes 1996?! I think that would have got a shock 12 off the UK for being...out there. 'Tornero', 'Let Me Try', 'Eu Cred', 'Playing With Fire' and 'Yodel It' my favourite Romanian entries.

Theodor was honestly very bad it was literally only himself and the girl putting black paint at the end Romania didnt even care to support his performance
It's not Theodor's fault. It's TVR's fault. I absolutely loved Theodor's song when it was released but Romanian TV did him so dirty 😢 He would have a chance of qualifying with the original version but TVR has forced him to change half of the song into a version he didn't really like.

This might be an unpopular opinion but despite everything Romania is a really strong ESC country for me! All of their entries from the 2020s are in my respective top 10s!

In my opinion 3 of them was suppose to win the final... First it was Cezar Oatu then Paula Seling and Ovi in 2010 and Roxen in 2021.
Also I think Eurovision was stealing the votes giving to other countries (No offence) from 2018 till in present...
I liked how Romania evolved over the years. In 2006, it was Romania's best performance, 4th place. In 2017, the song "Yodel it" drove me crazy with 7th place, and wow, 282 points. In 2015, the song was sad and beautiful. 2020, it was canceled due to the covid-19 pandemic, 2021 was kind of like 2023, but the song was great. 2022, "Llámame" by Wrs was my favorite, and the song, the dance, the lyrics were perfect, 2022 it was a very beautiful year for Romania, and for me!! 2023, it was very terrible, the song was ugly, I hope Romania doesn't withdraw..🇹🇩❤

It's funny how up until like... 2016 we had some great schlagers and then some bangers and then they turned into some sort of prequel for Wednesday Adams ( Ester), Roxen being very Billie Eilish in 2020 and then kinda Sia but only in style in 2021, WRS showed all his awesome talent in singing and dancing in the tv show Te Cunosc de Undeva, and this other guy... I mean he looked like a character from 2 Broke Girls and the song itself kinda nonsensical... at least the yodel one was kinda cute and fun to listen to by comparison... even though it became very annoying and overplayed at... well everywhere. PS I feel like Cezar's song would've been waaay better received nowadays than it had been at the time it came out... they just weren't ready for it then. Pull the plug on Eurovision and bring back The Golden Stag ( Cerbul de Aur).
