- As we all know, for every Eurovision Show (Semi Finals, Grand Final) there're 2 show (for juries and for televoters (official)). In all these shows contestants should perform their song with the same staging, outfits. But sometimes there're still some differences between them, including some really funny. Eurovision 2021 in Rotterdam isn't an exception. We had Romania (Roxen - Amnesia) and Ukraine (Go_A - Shum) had technical issues during their first performances at the First Semi Final Jury Show, Natalia Gordienko shouting meme "Europe, ooh"... or not xD. @@escserg6731 Well after they failed to make it they blamed her. They did the staging to a point that it was difficult for her to sing it
The head of the delegation was blaming her on national television right after the semifinal as Roxen was crying in a separte room. The romanian delegation is 100% at fault.
Like even a few days before the semifinal the head of delegation was saying that theres no hope to win or even reach top 10, and that their goal is to just qualify. Imagine how Roxen felt when not even her team was believing in her.
@@adrianneagoe3652 That's horrible. I think she's great and the song was good, but the performance really killed it. They should've just let her do her thing without all the choreo, she would've been so amazing. I hate them for blaming her though, like wow, you're supposed to be a team.
I understand why Roxen was 9th with the jury. She was definitely better during a jury show then the live show.
The most interesting thing that she could've been even higher in the jury voting without that first performance with technical issues that spoiled the first impression so hard (I mean, it seems like some juries put her last/close to last and simply didn't change it after the second perfromace).
Also there were rumours that every rehearsal she fainted from exhaustion which it scared most of the media in backstage....

as a singer, i can really sense and relate to roxen’s nerves…It makes it hard to breathe when ur nervous and singing so Imagine that while having to do all the things roxen did. I was rooting for them but regardless of what happened then, i was still really proud of them.
Yes, they just messed it up with the staging, they should've simply let her sing in one place, without these moves

When this performance came up I really thought it was Germany’s way to literally put their middle finger up to Eurovision. I mean, I have no other explanation for this…..well whatever that was…
@@YvieT81 Nope, at all! It was a pure positive song about not feeling hate to anyone, regardless of their attitude to you. It's not about Eurovision or anything at all. It was kinda good idea, this outfit could be peaceful sign or middle finger depending on the girl's hand position (thumb) :) Yes, it's a bit literal but why not?
@@escserg6731 I get the lyrics part, but I'm sorry it was so terrible I couldn't take it seriously. Who in their right mind would send this to the Eurovision to represent your country?? I mean I'm from the Netherlands and I felt our song this year was probably too boring to do anything (which unfortunately turned out to be true), but at least he could sing..
So now we realise why Gjon won the jury vote. That vocal performance was next level.
I know we all like Roxen but this song lives through its vocal power, if you can't control your nervousness and voice, well than you either need a better staging, more background singers or a more upbeat composition. She had neither

She needed less insane staging and a more sympathetic and clued up delagation I mean Barbara slayed without moving anything other than her arms around you don't have to do rush around to impress people if you've got enough singing talent and stage presence and a good enough song.
@@EmoBearRights I don't think Roxen had much of a say in the staging. Roxen gave their best efforts to sing while being thrown around, and it just wasn't good enough if you compare to artists who could sing and dance at the same time 🤷♂️
@@ESC_jackqulen The thing is that not everyone is a Mans or a Sergei who can be on point with an entire animated movie going on around them nor is everyone a Ruslana or Eleni or member of Hurricane who work their hair and still belt it out. No one expected Victoria to be it seems unfair that got pushed onto Roxen or Lesley.
I never imaginated there were two shows for both jury and televote! That must be quite exhausting for performers

Gjon's higher note in the jury final might be him screaming to NOT open the smoke machine
It was a very small issue that didn't spoil anything. It could've been bad for televoters while juries, probably, didn't even pay attention to this, his song and voice should've been enough for them, I think.

Perhaps many did not notice, but Måneskin's "Zitti e buoni" was also performed in two different versions: they performed with the censored version, which returned to being the original during the post-victory performance

An interesting detail from Israel's semi-final performance is that Eden lost a nail from her pinky finger when she was taking her jacket off (you can see that she's missing one when she holds the mic as well as see it laying on a ground next to a dancer). I wonder if that contributed to her hitting the whistle notes better than in the final 🤣

UPD: Yes, he tried this note on family show too and it doesn't sound that different (maybe there was some crack but I'm not an expert). Again, he decided to not take a risk probably, the televote final performance is the one that exists for wide audience
it was amazing to be honest, gave me goosebumps too
For me it's the way how he sang part RIGHT AFTER the high note. I can't explain it but it sounded more raw and expressive than original one.

It's probably a request by the lighting designers in the backstage team. The FOH team (team that controls the lighting live) has strict guidelines of what to do and when. It probably was planned that way :)

Poor guy I really don't like heights so if I was in his shoes I'd have been freaking terrified. I'm almost tempted to say the high note was him channeling his terror but that would be tasteless.

I would also highlight how there was a moment when the Russian singer exaggerated the movement as if she were a doll or a robot in the performance of the final, which she almost did not do in the semifinal. Right before she got out of the rolling dress 😄

Roxen was screwed over by her team because she was given a routine that was too advanced for her at the time. Honestly, I could say that she had one of the most complicated routines this year
Definitely because all of the moving and picking her up, putting her down etc.
Tbh even at the start she was already unstable. It sounds like a confidence problem.

All of Roxen's versions are pitchy as hell though 😬 the last one was definitely the best from a technical standpoint
Roxen is not always nervous while performing: When she performed Money Money at the Artist Awards, she was very confident it was clear that her delegation who was telling her that she had no chance to win or reach top 10 made her nervous

You can hear ROxen's frustration in her 1st jury performance especially at 0:31. I feel so bad for her
My opinions on each:
*Romania:* So there was a delay in her 1st jury performance... In her 2nd JP she sounds more stable, but somehow stilm a little weak. I didn't notice the lower tone difference.
*Ukraine:* How she quickly dealt with the delay in her 1st JP! I'm impressed! The other performances were equally right!
*Czech Republic:* I agree with your logic that he must have added intensity to the "omaga"s in the public performance. And the "what's up," in the Jury show was useless, should have been in his SF. Sad for the line confusion. I enjoyed his performance nevertheless. F.
*Poland:* Following your logic from CZ, he was right to shout and hype the public up in the TELEVOTE performance, since there was public, so I don't see nothing wrong, just normal differences.
*Russia:* Awww how she closed the dress' door calmly!!! And the spoken speech is indeed a big difference, with/without public, +/- intensity.
*Greece:* Maybe I'm too [un]biased with this one since it's my Last Place but the problem with the green screen in the Jury show was more visible. I think in all the performances it went wrong. Vocals are fine, but to me, not enough to enjoy the song.
*Switzerland:* I didn't notice the smoke effect!!!! Sad that it went wrong, it was such a good effect. And I already knew about the high note. Amazing!!!
*Moldova:* I enjoyed the "Europe! Woo!" part and was expecting it in the final. Besides the voice crack, she was stable. Still imoressed how despite that she managed to place 13th overall. Icon!
*Germany:* The song was already (and sadly) unpopular among the public. Yeah, the final performance was better but it gave him 0 points despite sounding more stable (and to me, entertaining). He got very few in the jury performance, totally justified because he seemed tired and breathless there. Anyways this is in my top 10 and it's one of my personal robberies.

You should make this for 2019 too! Hatari's semi-final was so much better than their final, with Matthias being an entire beat off in the final, but it wasn't exactly supposed to be melodic so I don't think anyone noticed

My ears are pretty good at hearing when people are even slightly off, but somehow I never noticed. It wasn't really my cup of tea (though it did grow on me), and like you said it isn't very melodic so that's probably why.

I was at the semi final 1 jury show! It was so nice to see 3 songs again (Ukraine, Romania and Malta)!! And we also got 3 extras as The Netherlands, Germany and Italy also performed at the jury show, it was so great.

Roxanne was terrible. Not sorry, love her song and wish her the best, but I am annoyed watching videos where everyone tries to explain what happened. ESC was a number to big for her.

To her the music trought the Earmic is tricky in a big stadium with so much hall. To find Greenscreen Settings to cover every shadow is tricky, but possible how we all saw in the grand final. To drop the mic can always happen. And Jendrik just had such so much fun. He loved it, don't care about the 0 points xD

Just saying, they didn't lower the pitch for Romania at any point
I mean, I've read something about it. Maybe it wasn't that big change but still, they did something about it, and she really sounds a bit lower in the televote performance than in the second jury, the voice became really kinda more "serious" and rough.
She definitely did sing at a lower pitch, although I think it was rather unintentional. Once you get into a wrong key, it's very difficult to come out of it again.

I think they're asked to do too many performances in too short a time. Quite often the semi final or last rehearsals are much better performances than the actual night, because their voices are just too tired to hit the notes on the night

I liked this idea too. But it seems like they had not so much time to do it like they wanted. At the end it was good but the green screen didn't work good enough at the main performance (televote final) which people will remember the most, it's sad(
Their very first performance (jury semi final) had also some other issues but thankfully they made it through

According to Gjon himself, the piece was not secured properly, and so after the part when the pieces separate, his slowly started drifting. At a certain angle, the piece is quite diagonal. You see Gjon worriedly looking down during the final chorus after his high note as his movement probably caused more movement.

No ... the Romanian girl stepped on the voice in both shows, I remember the face of my Romanian friends when they heard her singing in the semifinals, they were so disappointed, they didn't even give her a vote, even though they are, from my living room guests at least, the first to vote for their country. So i am from czech republic. Lot of people were ashamed of Ben. He is only popular amongst really young girls. Once you are out of your 15th year, you wont listen to him. Another problem with him, is that this song is exact same vibe as every single of his songs. Same love trope, same "chill" behaviour. Same performance as always.
