This song is basically a cover of the old Ukrainian folk song that is around 1000 years old. As others have already explained, the song is a ritual. They're inviting spring to come.
Also, the instrument is not a flute, it's a Ukrainian folk musical instrument called Sopilka.

“Shum” honours a “vesnyanka”, a traditional Ukrainian type of song attached to the spring ritual. This season is the protagonist of the song: “Oh vesnyanka, vesnyanka, where have you spent your winter?”. Nature is another theme: “Sowing, sowing, sowing, sowing hemp plants, Sowing, sowing, sowing, sowing green ones”. Yes, that’s what the catchy “Siyu, siyu, siyu” means.

Ukrainian traditional tavern was made of wood and it's walls were painted white with lime. The roof was either wooden or made of staw. When you walk inside you are welcomed with a smell of delicious food, candlewax, wood and tabacco. The tavern is crowded and loud. There are overworked villagers celebrating the end of a harvest, students from the big city who returned to their home village on the weekend to drink and maybe start a fight with landowner's sons and even the priest from the local Orthodox church who despite preaching about the devil who lives in that tavern comes here every Sunday after cermon. The mistress welcomes new people, serves drinks and cooks amazing food. You can order beer and snacks to it (smoked spiced meat, salted rye bread crackers, salted pig fat, smoked pig ears or dried fish) or you can have a nice dinner with borchst, perogi, porrige or meat stew with vegetables or sour fermented cabbage. And you can order something stronger to drink with it. Usually it's horilka i.e. vodka, but I would recommend you various nalyvkas (plant extract dissolved in pure alcohol). You can order vyshnivka (cherry nalyvka) which is sweet and gentle and always the crowd pleaser, or spotykach made of various spices and sugar ("spotykatysya" means "to stumble" so don't drink much or you'll not be able to walk), or honey, or black currant (my favourite), or hot pepper, or even horseradish which is very hot and very strong. That's a traditional tavern, "shynok". But I would say that modern Ukrainian pubs are not very different from that.

OK, so the flute is actually a sopilka - traditional Ukrainian instrument (Ihor plays a lot of different kinds of them). The song is about the awakening of the nature at the beginning of spring so the trees are the winter ones while the singer represents the deity of spring and forest - Shum (hence the green fur coat). The original song of which this is the version or remake - goes back thousands years - that's probably why you feel you've been transported to some ancient place))) Greetings from Ukraine!

In 2021 after the pandemic, all contestants had to record their performance in their own broadcaster, what they called "live on tape" just in case they could not be in Rotterdam to perform. After the contest, the Eurovision CZcams channel uploaded the live on tape versions and Go_A was fantastic, I would say it was better than the final performance. The part of the runners looked incredibly real, like if the White triangled-shaped stand was floating in the space while giant runners came from the back and filled the whole space. Magnificent moment.

It’s a Ukrainian song in a techno-folk genre. This song type/tradition is almost a millennium old, it's a ritualistic song about an ancient pagan forest deity called Shum. The song is meant to call Shum to bring Spring faster and say goodbye to Winter.
And the instrument you hear is of a flute family but actually a traditional Ukrainian (or rather old-Slavic) wind instrument - "sopilka". This is one of the most used instruments in Ukrainian traditional songs. She is singing in a traditional throat singing style, also called “white voice”. It's a beautiful combination of Ukrainian traditions and modern sound :)
P.S.: the meaning of the song is also about season changing. In this context, the ending of the pandemic (the Winter) and the beginning of a new era aka new Spring.
