I have the sh8830 model, not that great of a experience. Having elechomes send me the 8820 top fill model as a warranty replacement. Hopefully performs better than it's newer counterpart.

Should I use only distilled water so that I only inhale purified mist and water doplets?

I think regular water should be fine to be honest. Distilled may however help the machine so it doesn't form scale specially if where you live water is hard..
