  • You have the BAS/ESP light on and a system diagnosis points to the Yaw, Turn Rate sensor. Car may brake automatically and dangerously. Your car is NOT ROADWORTHY. Attend to this IMMEDIATELY to avoid accidents.

    I had first hand experience with this problem and i was lucky that i survived it on a bridge as the car behind me was about 100m away and saw my wheels smoking allover when the erratic breaking kicked in at 72mph. A day i will never forget and just warn anybody never to take chances with this issue!

    God bless you man. I've had this problem for more than 5 months now. Been to several workshops and nobody could fix it. Everybody wanted me to change my ABS module or pump which wasn't the case and it also did not work when I tried replacing some of the abs parts... I was so afraid to go on a highways because the car was randomly braking 2-3 times a day. The first time when I went to a workshop the worker there told me that the yaw sensor is OK and that's why I never thought of replacing it or just disconnecting it... I disconnected it a few days ago and the car is running normaly again... just the ESP warning is on the dashboard and at this point I can't care less. :)

    You can just disconnect this yaw sensor. The BAS/ESP light will come off anyway, but it won't brake by itself anymore. The ESP and BAS systems still work, but the yaw part of the ESP will not work, off course. Pay attention in roundabouts, hard turns and entering water sheets with just the right (or left) wheels.

      Did you turn it off on a diagnosis machine or just unpluged the sensor ?
      I didn't understand, the light will be turn off or on, after disconnecting the sensor ?
      I want to try to disconnect because I'm with some difficulties in buying a new sensor, no one have them to sale...
      Thanks!

    Dear Sir, i have a similar problem, the bas light is onand once in a while the car brakes for a fraction of a second, but it seems to brake on one side, which is quite dangerous.
    Can this be the abs wheel sensor or the yaw box?

    I had the same problem on my 2001ML. It would randomly brake. going straight down the road. Whenever it felt like it. So I disconnected the relay for the ABS, and eventually I'll get a new sensor. I have a used one, but I'm not sure if it's the same part number. And taking that console apart is tricky, maybe I'll attempt it one day

    I think its the same sensor as VW, AUDI and SKODA use, brand ATE but other part numbers, but they look absolutely same.. its the totally shit sensor!! few years ago i had this symptoms, so i changed this sensor and now after few years this fault came again.. ESP suddenly again brakes my wheels.. the sensor is gone too, ATE company should be punished for making so dangerous sensors!!!!

    Kent, just chatted today with you on Benzworld forums Sir. Just found your video here, I see you're the 'expert' at this issue. I will pull Yaw sensor after scanning. As a quick 'safety fix' may I just pull the ABS relay (either K25 or 27 can't recall which) to prevent this dangerous sudden braking issue ? Many thanks - David ['E 320 White Wagon']

    • @kentnoetico9867
      @kentnoetico9867  Před 5 lety

      David A Hi! I will confirm this for you. It will certainly disable your abs which means you will need to avoid high risk braking so you don't skip. Abs light will illuminate.

    • @kentnoetico9867
      @kentnoetico9867  Před 5 lety

      David A ok looking at fuse assignments, that may not be very good as f25 is protecting several other circuits, f25 and 27 protect the traction system so this may not be good. You will loose some crucial lights, potentially your instrument cluster. So best thing is once you confirm it, before a replacement arrives, remove it. I can always assist with getting to the sensor...

      Ok Kent thanks for the quick reply ! I just removed Relay K25 "ABS-Hydraulic" from under hood fuse relay box.
      Yes, now I get all 3 lights on left side, BAS+ESP, ETS & ABS, but I believe (pls confirm if u can) that the ESP induced automatic braking should NOT occur, scaring me to death or causing accident.
      The only reason I'm doing this 'pull K25 relay' is to give me time to search Ebay for a used Yaw Sensor & have time to install.
      I will study your video & others to see how to pull console, hopefully without breakage, LOL !
      PS: instrument cluster still lit...
