Magical beings are ubiquitous in the land of Disney. We have seen fairies, magical genies, sorcerers and of course my favorite: fairy godmothers. But what makes a fairy godmother a fairy godmother? I mean Ursula helps poor unfortunate souls with her dark magic, does that make her a fairy godmother? The genie grants individuals wishes to help their dreams come true, does he get to be a fairy godfather? There have to be some set of rules and trends to help us classify what characters are these magical beings, and today that’s exactly what I plan to find out.
I post every Tuesday and Thursday, so check back then for more Disney, Pixar, Harry Potter, Star Wars and movie videos! If you have any questions about the Disney universe that you would want answered in a video, please ask away in the comment section!

I do not own the rights to Disney or any of the branding associated to the franchise. Discovering Disney is meant for educational purposes which does not take away from the original works, but instead helps build understanding on the cinematic universe. Some links on this page are affiliate links.
I think Disney has them on more of a spectrum rather than good or evil.
The Enchantress, representing the median.
"Darkness has its place in the world because it brings out the light in others". Great video! 😃 But I'm not sure what fairy godmother I'd rather. Maybe I'd choose Flora, Fauna and/or Merryweather. They're funny 😝
I'm happy you enjoyed it! Thanks for watching!
My favorite is Mama Odie from Princess and the Frog.
Such an amazing way to look at the balance of good and evil!
don't we all wish we had fairy godmother
That's for sure. It would be very helpful! Thanks for watching!
But that would mean for the potential of an evil fairy to be real 😱
I have one! She is my best friend! and i love her a lot! =3
CreamChan I agree with you
Eh, not really. I'm doing fine without one. I don't need some stranger in a sparkly dress trying to solve all my problems when I'm perfectly capable of doing it without magical help.
Pinocchio’s fairy god mother looks like Cinderella.
I thought she looked more like a blonde Snow White.
@@queenratiganthefirst5442 Same, I think SW became a fairy god mother too in her afterlife
@@oldchannel_MoM Cool.
Younger version of Cinderella's fairy God mother
@@queenratiganthefirst5442 yea totally I feel like her name’s Evangeline, nicknamed Eva who mothered Snow White with her husband the First King aka King Leopold who soon passed away and I think she was also Ray the Firefly lover from she probably met and maybe befriended before she went with the First King. I think when she died, Ray was destined to join her again one day and when he murdered, he joined her as a “Star”.
I think Maleficent's "curse" was actually a warning. It became malevolent because Stefan ordered that all spinning wheels be burnt - thus taking a HUGE cottage industry away from his subjects.
In Sleeping beauty aurora's fairy godmothers explained that the spell can only be undone by the one who cast it. Therefore they couldn't undo it however they could alter it into a sleeping state, but they'd only be strong enough to do so if they joined their forces, particularly because it was a death spell.
Fairy Godmothers can be interpreted as women who are generous and merciful. Molly Brown from "Titanic" can be considered as Jack's fairy godmother since she lends Jack a nice suit.
Anyone else hear the theory that Snow White actually died and Prince Charming was actually the grim reaper coming to take her to heaven?
I have heard this one from a friend. Could be a really interesting idea to explore. Thanks for watching!
The Inquisitor I thought I was the only one who thought that
gen101394 me to
The Inquisitor what????!!?!!!!!
Still doesn't change the fact that it's pretty creepy that the first thing he thought when he saw her was to kiss her.
Snow whites prince name is not Prince Charming it's prince florian and Cinderellas prince is prince Henry!
And the Beast is actually named Adam. Yet unfortunately Disney doesn't use any of these names in their movies.
True they don't like sleeping beauties prince is Prince Philip but they call him Prince
Charlene dimitro to be honset Disney doesnt really care about the Prince's
Adam is the beast yet they blamed eve
Snow whites husband's official name should be David. Because once upon a time. Hehe.
the famous of the evil fairy godmother is maleficent
Yup! I think so. She's so evil! Thanks for watching!
Wotso Videos your welcome
Johnny Maygarden She's called Carabosse in the Sleeping Beauty ballet and she has a son called Caradoc.
The Blue Fairy from Pinnochio is my favorite good fairy godmother, she is so pretty and kind. :)
I love how you work through your theories. I agree that the evil characters often do provide a test to the good characters. They have to fight through what the bad characters inflict upon them. And yes, that often leads to the happy ending. I think the evil characters often act like The Magician card in Tarot, the trickster (like Loki) who provide the circumstances needed for change and development to happen.
First of all another major common trait for fairy godmothers is that they come to you, not the other way around.
But
Last time I checked to be a "fairy godmother" you probably should be a "fairy" too. From my point of view "witches", don't qualify. This can be clarified by taking the original fairytales into account:
The evil queen from snowwhite was human (she didn't transform into an old woman, she disguised as one).
The fairy godmother from Cinderell and the blue fairy obviously qualify. So do the fairies from sleeping beauty indluding Maleficent, since they all were fairies in the original storie and the character from maleficent was a little annoyed for not being invited to the baby party (also when she arrived she didn't get a golden plate like all the other fairies)
The Enchantress from beauty and the beast makes sense as a fairy godmother and since she wasn't metioned (at least in the versions I know) I don't have much to say here.
Ursula in my opinion is no fairy godmother, since even in the original tale by H.C.A she is referred to as a sea witch (note here: her role was far less villainous there). Making a contract btw seemes more like a legal covering. Like: oh, you haven't read the contract you signed when I pressured you into signing it and now you are an algea? Too bad!
And the Genie... No. Just no. It is a creature that exists far longer than the concept of a fairy godmother and is it's seperate thing. Always has. Always will (same goes for Robin William's performance)
Good insight. Evil fairygodmothers, hmm, never thought of it that, but i agree that they unintentionally helped those they sought to hurt. What people mean for evil, God means for good. (Genesis 50:20)
Actually Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty & Red Riding Hood were written by both Brothers Grimm & Perrault😉 Great video as always! Love these discovering Disney episodes. Keep up the good work Isaac!
The good fairies did something that was definitively more evil than maleficent. They made the entire castle go into a deep sleep until Aurora awakes, which on the surface, doesn't sound bad. But what if prince Phillip wasn't there? What if he wasn't her true love? All those people, including Auroras parents, would've been left in an eternal sleep forever. Just imagine how much more messed up that is than just maleficent making her sleep. Also it is the good fairies own fault that Aurora got caught in the first place, if they had waited until AFTER her birthday to celebrate, the whole thing would've never happened.
most fairy godmothers want to switch the system and be the evil and help themselves than others so they can have all the power just sayin 😉
Sorry this comment is late but I think that "evil fairy godmothers" are only seen through our eyes as evil maybe they know that what they do will help you in the future and they practice a different kind of magic making it a curse instead of a blessing
Thanks for sharing your thoughts! You're not late at all! Thanks for watching!
Huh. That's an interesting way of looking at it. Not sure I agree with it but it is something to think about…
If Aurora's parents had invited Maleficent, Aurora would have such an AWESOME gift that the other fairies' gives wouldn't be able to rival that.
yes, but had they done so she would have been the unlucky 13th guest
If Snow White had eaten the whole apple, would it still possible to bring her back? If the queen hadn't put in so much poison, maybe Snow would've eaten the whole thing and been truly dead.
"Darkness has its place in the world, because it brings out the light in others."
WOW that's deep. Love it.
in the liveaction movie for sleeping beauty, the one called maleficent, Maleficent is proofed to be a villian as well as a hero, and Aurora refers to her as her fairy godmother
I agree with your theory.
I'd love to have Cinderella's fairy godmother since she was kind and comforting when she needed to be, but also had a toughness to her.
Tinker Bell were make great fairy mother
In one episode of the Emperor's New School, there was a story similar to the Emperor's New Groove where there was an emperor called Micchu Pacchu and his advisor had him drink a potion that turned him into an anteater and the advisor took over the empire, so would he count as a Fairy Godfather?

Loyal MatPat Film Theorists out there: No It's not...
@Wotso Videos I've read that in the original Rapunzel story, Dame Gothel wasn't only Rapunzel's godmother, but she was a fairy in earlier versions, so you could have mentioned Dame Gothel in this video.
Seriously...I dont know how you do it. But you managed to touch my heart each time I watch your videos. Keep it up, Disney Lorekeeper.
I do agree with your theory and I would love to have the three fairy godmothers from Sleeping Beauty as my fairy godmothers
Great choice! I'm happy you agreed. Thanks for watching!
John Panda they might fight over what color your dress should be lol
John Panda Flora, Fauna, and MerryWeather
Great video!! 😊😊 I really like the thumbnail too 😊
Ursula showed me the importance of body language. I bet she would be a fun fairy godmother if she wasn't so evil lol.
Even though somewhat impractical, I'd love for my Fairy Godmother to be Mrs. Toquet from the 1955 film "The Glass Slipper". She was hilarious (and arguably a thief) but she had a humorous way of teaching lessons and still made it possible for Cinderella to have everything she needed to get to the Ball. It's a lovely film and I recommend it to everyone (especially since the very end of the film has a surprise twist involving Mrs. Toquet).
I would want Cinderella's fairy godmother as my fairy godmother.
Thanks for the video, you gave some great info that I wasn't sure on how to go about researching.
I'm happy you liked it. This is one of my favorite topics. Thanks for watching!

Sleeping beauty fairies are also in Sofia the first
I just discovered Watso Videos and I’m loving it! I don’t subscribe much; but I’m thinking about it!
Can fairy godmothers be neutral? Neutral as in neither good or evil?
Awesome video as always!
Got a question, what made you chose the name "Wotso Videos" for your channel?
This was a really good video. This is definitely one of my favorites!
Wow thank you. It took a long time to make so I'm happy you enjoyed it. Thanks for watching!
I always look forward to your videos....dare I say it I am Never disappointed :)
my Favorite Disney Live Action Movie's Either The Lion,The Witch,&,The Wardrobe,or,Prince Caspian
great video I loved the fraiy godmother in Cinderella keep up the great videos
I would love to have Flora, Fauna, and Merryweather as fairy godmothers. I wouldn't want to be raised by them, but I think they would be awesome Aunts, you could expect some great presents from them.
this was a really interesting video love it!! :)
Thank you for the support! I'm happy you liked it. Thanks for watching!
I really enjoyed your video, keep up the great work!!!!!!!! ;7
Thank you! I'm happy you liked it! Thanks for watching!
Hey Wotso, do you think you can video on the theories surounding Feliciare, the villian of Disney's Princess and the Frog. How he got his powers and if it has anything to with his ancestry
Yes I definitely can. A full story on him would be great. Thanks for watching!
I want The Blue Fairy as my fairy godmother.:)
I wonder if the character design team for Hercules intended for The Fates to be allusions to Flora, Fauna and Merriweather. I mean, they do have the same colors (although faded, dark, and drab).
can you do the full story of forte from beauty and the beast enchanted Christmas
@Wotso Videos Maybe you could do a video about Fairy Godfathers.
this was a great video on the concept and tradition of fairy godmothers; also being as they are 'fairy' they could also relate back to the sidhe of ireland (fair folk/fae). From what I've read the gentry being as powerful as they are enjoyed sport with mortals, some who proved courageous were given gifts or if wicked could be cursed but they never set out to do good or ill. As for who I would like to be my fairy god mother it's a tough choice, malificent is a wonderful one, strong with magic, the dragon form, and I also believe if paid proper respect one you could get along well with. The other godmothers while wonderful characters I find it hard to see as a godmother for myself
Brilliant, this is a game changer!!!
Tne blue fairy kinda looks like cinderellla i wanna know😩 please can you do that😀
I love it ❤ what if you do one video about megara full story 😍😍
I definitely can! I haven't done a Hercules video yet. Thanks for watching!
Is the witch in brave a fairy god mother?
If I could have a Fairy Godmother, it'd be Maleficent! DUN DUN DUN! I mean, the only reason she cursed Aurora was because she wasn't invited. Totally rude of the King and Queen!
hi, i have seen some of ur videos, including this. and u guys r awsome, do keep it up. though I was wondering if it were possible for u guys to give some info about the actions and the stories behind Judge Cluade Frolo from "Hunch Back of Notre Dom" plz and ty
+Caira Bass I'm happy you have been enjoying the content you've seen so far! I'm always glad to hear people are liking what we are doing. I will definitely make a Frollo video some day! He's a really really dark character. Thanks for watching!
Wotso Videos Thank you. Ur the best ✌
Belle's Prince in "Beauty and The Beast" is usually called Prince Adam, at in 1991. That was his name unofficially by fans.
If you all haven't read "Fairest of All" the story about The Evil Queen's origin YOU MUST READ IT!!!!
@Wotso Videos Is Cinderella's Fairy Godmother also the Fairy dressed in blue from Sleeping Beauty? They do have the same colour of clothes.
If bad things don't happen then good things won't appear
Made that quote up myself BTW
are meleficent and cindies fairy godmother related would that explain the absence of wings
I LOVE ISAAC!! This was a great theory series. My one and only comment is that the Fates got mixed up with the Grey Ladies in Hercules... but that's not Isaac's fault :)
Wait what charming was the grim reaper?
@Wotso Videos In the Disney Cruise Line show Twice Charmed, it's revealed that Cinderella's Fairy Godmother was also the King's Fairy Godmother and that possibly explains how he became royalty.
Whoa really? That's really interesting. I'm going to need to look into that! Thanks for watching!
I just want to ask if you already make a video on who cursed elsa if not can you pls make one?
IMO the only one that's actually an "evil" fairy godmother is Maleficent because she is in fact a fairy. But the Evil Queen and Ursula are witches, their movies dictate so.
@Wotso Videos You could have mentioned the Fairy Godmother from the second Shrek film.
@Wotso Videos In Maleficent, would Diaval be Aurora's Fairy Godfather?
What if supernatural creatures such as fairy godmothers are supposed to protect humans in different areas of the Disney universe? Ursula, Morgana and Triton under the sea, Flora Fauna, Merryweather and Maleficient in Aurora's kingdom, the fairies in other movies, the tree in Pocahontas... Then, perhaps Elsa in Frozen was supposed to protect the kingdom, and perhaps Mother Gothel was also a fairy who somehow lost her magic (that is why she knows so much about it). Even toy story would make sense. Maybe supernatural protectors are tempted by the power dark magic provides, and that's when they turn evil.
could you do a video explaining fairys?
Well, that certainly blew my mind. Awesome!
+T. Thomas I'm glad I could do that! It's an idea I have been thinking about for awhile. Thanks for watching!
can you make dutch subs by your disney and star wars video’s?
I just realized something. I've seen those creatures in Percy Jackson. 1:19
Really loved your video, magic is all, magic is life!
wotso videos i want to know lady tremaine and her daughters full story in cinderella
hey does that make ezma from emperor's new groove a fairy godmother like the enchantress?
George Whitney *yzma
George Whitney d immortal yzma amzy
@George Whitney If Yzma is a Fairy Godmother, would that make Kronk a Fairy Godfather?
Nah, she comes across as more of a mad scientist than a magician…
She uses science to create chaos, NOT magic
Issac, could the Fairy Godmother in Cinderella, be the older version of the Blue Fairy in Pinocchio?
Oh I definitely think so. I don't know how I could prove it, but I think it could definitely work. Thanks for watching!
what is your take on the "live version" of maleficent? and they just started filing maleficent 2
Do a vid on what marry poppins and nanny mic fee is
I've Read All 7 Books,&,Watched All 3 Movies,&,I Still Really Wish That They'd Turn The Other 4 Books Into Movies,Especially The Magician's Nephew
I think that the reason the fairy god guardians can do so much magic but can be limited at times is because part of the fairy-tale is the challenges the charactors have to go through, otherwise the story would end with the fairy god mother or father just setting up a counter curse and the story ends, making it not nearly as interesting. Some of them are consitered villins beause they truely have to test the protagonist to see if they truely deserve the gift they are blessed with, and the good ones come in a formal fashion and wave their wands, but something bad happens later on, proving that the spell at one point backfired. In the tv series 'Once Upon a Time,' Rumplestilskin helps out Cinderella instead of her fairy god mother, but he warned her that magic isn't free, that you can't make something out of nothing. Maybe that is how the fairy guardians work, but the villans get more than they barganed for and the good ones put more hard work and effort in it, appearing more than once in the story to assist the protagonists. What do you think, do you think the fairy guardians need something from the charactor in order to fufill the wish? Ursulla took Ariel's voice to give her legs, and Merryweather took Maleficent's curse and tampered with it, so maybe they need something and certain powers to grant it? What do you think, Watso?
The Evil Queen and Ursula are witches. Great video other than that!!
Interesting video... Very very interesting.
I'm happy you found it interesting! Thanks for watching!
I think that the blue fairy is a younger fair godmother from Cinderella
How do you feel about Malecifent's role in the Kingdom Hearts Series? Do you think that the Kingdom Hearts Series is another Origin to the Disney Verse? Or do you think that its part of a multiverse? Great job on the videos!
I kind of like the way Kingdom Hearts explains the Disney universe. Do I think it is "Disney canon?" No I don't. I like the movies individually or as connected movies while I just love Kingdom Hearts. It truly stands on its own. It's just so good. Thanks for watching!
I like to think that it shares a multiverse with Disney canon, Once Upon a Time and other Disney-inspired fantasy stories.
I'm so glad you mentioned Maleficent in this video, but are you going to do an origin story of her?
@Wotso Videos Because Cinderella's Fairy Godmother tried to help Jaq in the second Cinderella film, would she also be Jaq's Fairy Godmother?
That's a good question. I would say it doesn't because she continues to live around the castle leading me to believe she is staying to protect Cinderella and her friends. I could honestly see it going either way though. Thanks for watching!
Honestly, fairy aunts are more of a protagonists in "Sleeping Beauty" than prince Philip or, let alone, Aurora.
@Wotso Videos In the Sword in the Stone, would Merlin count as Wart's Fairy Godfather?
I think so! He's a magical person that was just there to help him to capture his dreams. Thanks for watching!
And would Madam Mim count as his wicked Fairy Godmother?
Okay. Just FYI those are the Grey Sisters from the story of Persues due to their one eye that they pass around to each other. Disney adapted and changed their story to fit in with Hercules.
In their REAL story. These three have been blind old hangs since birth and they live along the river stix. Their only way to see is to have their one eye and pass it around between each other when one wants/needs to see something. Perseus was on a quest for the head of Medusa and knew the only way to find her would be to talk to the Grey Sisters. So when he found them he snatched the eye while they were passing it around. He asked them to tell him where the Gorgon Medusa was and after telling them he dropped the eye in front of them and went on his way leaving them with their shared sight
Can you plz do one on how old geenie is
Sweet idea! I want to do something with the genie soon! Thanks for watching!
@Wotso Videos Would Jiminy Cricket count as Pinocchio's Fairy Godfather?
No I think the Blue Fairy was his fairy godmother. Thanks for watching!
I HAVE A THEORYYYY!!! I think the enchantress from beauty and the beast is also Evangelien from princess and the frog .😁😁😁😁
Evangeline is the Blue Fairy from Pinocchio
The soundrackt sounds like from enchanted.
@Wotso Videos Are there any Fairy GodCHILDREN?
Interesting question. I'll have to think on that! Thanks for watching!
Would the Coachman from Pinocchio be the Pleasure Island Boys's wicked Fairy Godfather? After all, he may have taught the boys a lesson on their behaviour.
Great point. I think he definitely could be. Thanks for watching!
Alex Downs if that's true, following Disney precedent, it would follow there would be a way to reverse the donkey curse.
Thomas Snaders' prince personality, Roman, has a fairy godmother.
She dresses him.
