      I am a huge Disney fan and a couple years ago they came out with a modern version of this movie: Beastly.
      Does anyone remember it? it started Vanessa Hudgens. Anyway, in this version the "beast" makes her a green house because of her love for flowers, instead of offering her his library like in the Disney animated one. It didn't hit me until now, but maybe the directors/ producers of Beastly new something that we don't, especially if her mother seemed to love flowers.
      Also, in the old folk tale version, when Belles father must leave town for business, Belle asks him to bring her back a simple rose. That could also explain why Belle was so drawn to the Beasts delicate enchanted flower when she first sees it.
      Just a thought :) carry on

    The original Beauty and the Beast plot
    A wealthy, widowed merchant lives in a mansion with his six children, three sons and three daughters. All his daughters are very beautiful, but the youngest, Beauty, is the most lovely, as well as kind, well-read, and pure of heart; while the two elder sisters, in contrast, are wicked, selfish, vain, and spoiled. They secretly taunt Beauty and treat her more like a servant than a sister. The merchant eventually loses all of his wealth in a tempest at sea. He and his children are consequently forced to live in a small farmhouse and work for their living.
    Some years later, the merchant hears that one of the trade ships he had sent off has arrived back in port, having escaped the destruction of its compatriots. He returns to the city to discover whether it contains anything valuable. Before leaving, he asks his children if they wish for him to bring any gifts back for them. The sons ask for weaponry and horses to hunt with, whereas his oldest daughters ask for clothing, jewels, and the finest dresses possible as they think his wealth has returned. Beauty is satisfied with the promise of a rose as none grow in their part of the country. The merchant, to his dismay, finds that his ship's cargo has been seized to pay his debts, leaving him penniless and unable to buy his children's presents.
    During his return, the merchant becomes lost in a forest during a storm. Seeking shelter, he enters a dazzling palace. A hidden figure opens the giant doors and silently invites him in. The merchant finds tables inside laden with food and drink, which seem to have been left for him by the palace's invisible owner. The merchant accepts this gift and spends the night there. The next morning, as the merchant is about to leave, he sees a rose garden and recalls that Beauty had desired a rose. Upon picking the loveliest rose he can find, the merchant is confronted by a hideous "Beast" which tells him that for taking his most precious possession after accepting his hospitality, the merchant must die. The merchant begs to be set free, arguing that he had only picked the rose as a gift for his youngest daughter. The Beast agrees to let him give the rose to Beauty, but only if the merchant or one of his daughters will return.
    Beauty dines with the Beast in an illustration by Anne Anderson.
    The merchant is upset but accepts this condition. The Beast sends him on his way, with wealth, jewels and fine clothes for his sons and daughters, and stresses that Beauty must never know about his deal. The merchant, upon arriving home, tries to hide the secret from Beauty, but she pries it from him. Her brothers say they will go to the castle and fight the Beast, but the merchant dissuades them, saying they will stand no chance against the monster. Beauty then agrees to go to the Beast's castle. The Beast receives her graciously and informs her that she is now mistress of the castle, and he is her servant. He gives her lavish clothing and food and carries on lengthy conversations with her. Every night, the Beast asks Beauty to marry him, only to be refused each time. After each refusal, Beauty dreams of a handsome prince who pleads with her to answer why she keeps refusing him, to which she replies that she cannot marry the Beast because she loves him only as a friend. Beauty does not make the connection between the handsome prince and the Beast and becomes convinced that the Beast is holding the prince captive somewhere in the castle. She searches and discovers multiple enchanted rooms, but never the prince from her dreams.
    For several months, Beauty lives a life of luxury at the Beast's palace, having every whim catered to by invisible servants, with no end of riches to amuse her and an endless supply of exquisite finery to wear. Eventually, she becomes homesick and begs the Beast to allow her to go see her family. He allows it on the condition that she returns exactly a week later. Beauty agrees to this and sets off for home with an enchanted mirror and ring. The mirror allows her to see what is going on back at the Beast's castle, and the ring allows her to return to the castle in an instant when turned three times around her finger. Her older sisters are surprised to find her well fed and dressed in finery. Beauty tries to share the magnificent gowns and jewels the Beast gave her with her sisters, but they turn into rags at her sisters' touch, and are restored to their splendour when returned to Beauty, as the Beast meant them only for her. Her sisters are envious when they hear of her happy life at the castle, and, hearing that she must return to the Beast on a certain day, beg her to stay another day, even putting onion in their eyes to make it appear as though they are weeping. They hope that the Beast will be angry with Beauty for breaking her promise and eat her alive. Beauty's heart is moved by her sisters' false show of love, and she agrees to stay.
    Illustration by Warwick Goble.
    Beauty begins to feel guilty about breaking her promise to the Beast and uses the mirror to see him back at the castle. She is horrified to discover that the Beast is lying half-dead from heartbreak near the rose bushes her father had stolen from and she immediately uses the ring to return to the Beast.
    Beauty weeps over the Beast, saying that she loves him. When her tears strike him, the Beast is transformed into the handsome prince from Beauty's dreams. The Prince informs her that long ago a fairy turned him into a hideous beast after he refused to let her in from the rain and that only by finding true love, despite his ugliness, could the curse be broken. He and Beauty are married and they live happily ever after together.

      In the new "Beauty and the Beast" live-action movie, it's heavily implied that Beast's parents are the King and Queen of France. Disney copied existing portraits of King Louis XIV of France, "the Sun King" (b. 1638 - d. 1715), for Beast's father and a young Beast. A portrait of queen consort Marie Leszczyńska (b. 1703 - d. 1768), the wife of King Louis XV of France, and daughter of King Stanisław I of Poland and Catherine Opalińska (Princess of Poland), was used for Beast's mother. Marie Leszczyńska was married the great-grandson of Louis XIV.
      Presumably, if the film is historically accurate, Beast's "true" name would be "Louis, Grand Dauphin (Crown Prince) of France".
      It's quite possible that Beast's parents either chose to disown him; purposefully locked him away; and/or were killed in the French Revolution, the latter of which is a popular fan theory regarding how (and why) the Beast was locked away in a castle for so long, and why no one seems to go near the castle at all. In one of my theories, I put forth the idea that Maurice and Belle also live in the "small town, a quiet village" due to the Revolution, in order to go into hiding / protect themselves from the extremist Jacobins.

    There's actually a book based on if Belle's mother had cursed the beast, it's called As Old as Time and it's part of the A Twisted Tale series by Liz Braswell. The series is published by Disney.
    The more likely reason for roses probably comes back to the original story of Beauty and the Beast which was written by French novelist Gabrielle-Suzanne Barbot de Villeneuve (Learning to spell that must have been fun) where the Beauty's father is a merchant who was going to get a gift for each of his daughters (he had 6) and Beauty requested a rose, prompting her father to pluck a rose from the Beast's garden and get the plot rolling. They may have initially meant to go closer to that plot and have the Beauty's mother have some connection to roses, thus giving the Beauty some reason to request one seeing as it is kind of a random choice on her part.

      To everyone commenting about the book "As Old as Time: A Twisted Tale" by Elizabeth J. Braswell: I was actually the first one to write about the "Belle's mother is the Enchantress" theory on Reddit. I published the theory over a year ago under the username Obversa on r/fantheories. I will be contacting Liz (author of the book) to make sure she did not use any of my content or writing.

      Amber Goldsmith Books take a very long time to write, too long for the seven month time period between your post and the publication of the book. I'm sure the author of Tale as Old as Time did not steal your theory, considering the plot of the book was most likely decided at least a year before the publication date. Not even someone like Mark Twain could finish a book that quickly.

    • @EyreAffair
      @EyreAffair Před 7 lety

      As a writer myself, that's not true or correct. If it were, authors would never meet the deadlines imposed on them by publishers. I wrote a 70,000 word novel manuscript within the span of less than two months. (A novel is any work that is typically around 40,000 words or more.) I am willing to guess that the author wrote what's called a novella, which typically range around 20,000 words. There was ample time for her to write her book based on my Reddit post.
      Likewise, I always do extensive online searches before posting any theories to make sure that my content is new and original. I verified that no one else had come up with the same interpretation or idea ("Belle's mother was the Enchantress who cursed the Beast"), at least online, before posting it. Then, all of a sudden, a published author suddenly shows up with "the exact same idea"? I can't tust that she didn't take it, because a lot of my work has been "shared" (i.e. plagiarized by Buzzfeed-like sites) without my permission before.

    • @Voidfuleternity
      @Voidfuleternity Před 7 lety +1

      Amber Goldsmith I find it very hard to believe that a Disney published book would steal from someone's theory on the internet, especially if you weren't the first person to come up with that theory. While my friend never posted their theory, I distinctly remember him telling me this theory almost two years ago now. I even remember him writing an email to someone about it, and that person responded with praise on the intricacy of the theory. I'm not saying you stole his theory, considering that he never posted it publicly, but it has been thought of, and shared.
      Even if you came up with the theory before the book was published (and let's just assume the writing process for the book began after your theory was posted) it's not impossible for them to have come up the idea on their own without stealing from you.

    If Anna and Elsa's parents are shipwrecked on an island on the way to Rapunzel and Flynn's wedding, and while Ariel is scouring the shipwreck they build a tree house, have a son (Tarzan), are eaten and then he marries Belle's great-great-great-granddaughter, then that means that Frozen, Tangled, Tarzan, The Little Mermaid, and Beauty and the Beast are all connected!!!!!!!

      While i'd love these movies to be connected, frozen 2 debunked this possibility. Anna and the others found the ship somewhere in Norway and little mermaid took place in Denmark.
      The ship with Tarzan's parents had a British flag on it and while Tarzan takes place after beauty and the beast, the enchantment that was placed upon the beast's staff was broken so no more teapot. If i missed any facts that prove me wrong, you can always say so

      ConnorGameGuy she is referring to the actual story that the animated Disney movie is based off of.
      My mom has a book of different fairy tales and in it was that story of beauty and the beast with beauty's father leaving to go to his ships and he asks all of his daughters what they want. The older ones ask for jewelry, fine clothes, and beauty asks for a white rose.
      Their father journeys to his ships and found that they were attacked and so he had nothing to take back home to his older daughters. He comes across a castle and is made welcome even though no one seemed to be around.
      He then ventures out into the Rose garden and takes a rose for his youngest daughter. The Beast catches him and threatens to lock him away, but the man tells him that his daughter had wished for a rose.
      The Beast then tells him to go back to his home and bring the daughter back to be his prisoner. The father agrees, but then goes back on his word, but when the older daughters hear about that they tell their father that She should go back since that was her wish. Beauty agrees and uses the magic ring that the Beast gave her dad to travel back to his castle after being with his daughters for three days. The rest is coincides similarly to Disney movie.

    I've been watching the animated Beauty and the Beast again because i love it so much, and a question popped into my head.
    How does Gaston know where Beast's castle is? Even Maurice doesn't know the way back after stumbling upon it, and Belle got lost going back to the village when she ran away from it.
    So how does Gaston manage to get there within one song? The townspeople are 'counting on Gaston to lead the way'. Why didn't they get lost going to a place they obviously had no clue existed?
    The answer? What if Gaston and Prince Adam were friends growing up, and Gaston would come to the castle to play with the Prince?
    There are quite some similarities between the two from their arrogant attitude to the way they treat those they think are beneath them, Gaston with Lefou, the Prince with his servants, to even the way they treat women.
    They even wear their hair the exact same way!
    Its just a theory, but it would explain how he knew how to get there, and how he went running up the stairs to find Beast. how did he know he wasn't in the kitchen? no, instead he looks in maybe 2 other rooms before making his way to the Beast's room.
    He couldn't possibly know Beast would be in there unless he'd been there before.
    And, when Beast is about to throw him off the castle roof and Gaston pleads for his life, Beast looks like he's remembering Belle giving her life for her father, but what if he's realizing the man he's about to kill is his friend from his childhood?
    That's my theory anyways

    • @katsa5
      @katsa5 Před 7 lety +7

      I had long thought it was weird timing too, but I have a few ideas.
      1) I think the song was meant to be theatrical representation, rather than literal. Meant to display a mindset, not an action. That's the frequent purpose for songs in musicals. So it could've been longer. Villager #24: I will follow the Hero through weeks of snow/marsh/whatever if it means my family is safe!
      2) Its conceivable that Gaston would've taken a shorter time than Maurice. Both times maurice traveled to the castle, he was lost and then carried away by someone/thing else. Meanwhile, Gaston is a Hunter by trade, so he would be very familiar with the lands surrounding the village. Whether he had known about the castle the entire time could be one way or another. I don't think it would have mattered to him at all until Belle.

      It's a large castle within a couple day's travel that was inhabited by humans only ten years ago. There are probably merchants and farmers in the town who used to make deliveries to the castle. Some townsfolk might even have relatives who worked in the castle.

      based on the new life-action version that just came out, the enchantress also put a spell on the people in town to make them forget.
      IN THE SONG "Belle"
      Monsieur Jean: good morning, belle!
      Belle: good morning monsieur jean! have you lost something again? (referring to Ms. Potts)
      J: Well i believe i have, the problem is, i cant remember what.
      so one of the team (probably production team or something not sure) member cleared that part as to how the enchantress put a spell on them too.
      some part in the movie when the townsfolk just arrived at the castle, someone says something about how this castle seems fimiliar. as when the spell was broken, the townsfolk hugged the people who has been in the castle for 10 years.

    Naw. She Dead. Lol.
    Personally, I liked where you were going with Belle's mom being a lady of upper class standings. But that's about it. It's very possible that Belle's Father and Mother were both upper class citizens. Maurice could have become an inventor as a hobby, not having to really work for a living because they were rich? Also, as I've seen in the previews for the new film, the rose comes into play in a way other than "subtly" stating that the Enchantress is Belle's mother. In the original story of Beauty and The Beast, as you mentioned, Maurice is a widower, and a merchant. He goes out riding one day or is on his way home from some sale. Wanders into an immaculate rose garden. He is amazed by their beauty and reminded of his youngest, and most beautiful daughter, Belle. (Because she had 2 beautiful sisters, but they were spoiled bitches. Probably why the family goes broke.)
    So anyway, he brings the rose home to Belle. He keeps doing this until one day, Beast, who owns said rose garden, catches him in the act. There ensues the plot.
    But maybe the roses mean more to Maurice than a pretty gift for his favorite daughter. Maybe Belle's mother had a rose garden of her own, maybe her name was Rose. Maybe since Belle looks so much like her mother, that's why he's reminded of her when he sees the roses.
    To conclude the Enchantress is really Belle's mother with an elaborate scheme is way too far fetched for my liking. Besides, if Belle's mother has magic powers, how come Belle's only super power is speed reading?

      ... read all the original fairy tales - written by Hans Christian Anderson, and the Grimm brothers... in all the origins, the mothers had already died, in childbirth, or during early childhood of the lead character. Walt was already producing animated movies of the fairy tales, and had already produced Snow White, and Sleeping Beauty (whose mother was present at the start and end of the story) before his mother died. The studio was simply following the original stories written centuries before Flora Disney died. Look at Merida/BRAVE, the mother is a lead character. In Frozen, they simply followed the pattern of losing a parent in tragic circumstances - the premise used to setup many original Fairy Tales in centuries gone by...

      @1forelle Před 7 lety +5

      I guess it's more because of the time the fairytales are set in. Most of them play in the 16th, 17th, 18th or 19th century. Until modern times many people died at a young age - you could might say being 40 was back then what being 90 is today. There were many diseases which spread like fire due to bad hygiene, and as you probably know vaccination was not a thing back then. Also many women died while giving birth because the medical conditions were really bad too. They lost a lot of blood during birth, were already weakened by pregnancy and quite often could not be saved. That's why most of the princesses/heroines already have lost their mother in the Grimm's/Andersen's/whatever's fairytales which the Disney movies are based on. It was quite a common thing back then.

    I personally think that if Belle's mother was the enchantress, then there must have been a one time thing. Maybe she was gifted with some sort of power to find her daughter's true love but only had once chance to find them. Maybe the rose on her dress was the same rose that the enchantress gave to the beast and it was the source of her power? Maybe When she gave the rose, it drainer her and she didn't know that it would do that. Maybe she turned into the rose?
    Now I am very curious about this theory...

    • @slytheringirl7872

      No I think if she has that sort of power then she could have been the enchtress who turned the prince into a beast wanting to give her precious daughter Bell to him, because she new her daughter age 10 at the tine had the heart of gold.

    • @caeleybaines7376
      @caeleybaines7376 Před 7 lety +11

      In the movie Belle was very drawn to the flower. She looked at it no confused or in an admiring way... like she saw its mysteries and its almost like she felt like she was connected to it. What if Belle's mother was an enchantress that can change forms, explaining how she can be an old lady at one time but then changes into her true form. And she is like a match maker that helps/guides people to find their soulmates... but maybe during one of her missions she met Maurice and accidentally fell in love with him while she was in the form of an heiress with brown hair and blue eyes, once Belle was born and as she turned 10ish her mother probably felt she had another mission to complete, the mission to find her own daughters soulmate! And she just "left" them and searched. Now she took the form of the old women and asked to be let in to his castle but when he refused she had to think of another plan that also doubled as an important lesson.. since she wouldn't want her daughter with an ill-mannered man. So she then showed her true form of a blonde enchantress and trapped her soul in the rose so she still could watch. Now, that could also be what led Maurice to the castle, like an explained force telling him to go the path he went... because his love was there...but as a rose. That is also why Belle was able to find it quickly, it was like she knew where to go cause her heart was leading her to the castle to meet the Beast, and save her father. As the rose her mother could still watch her and because her mom was the rose that is why she was so drawn and connected to the flower.

    I recently read a book about Beauty and the Beast and it was by Disney so I think it's cannon. In the book it mostly talks about belle's mother and how she was the enchantress and how Belle's mother and father met. I personally think the book was amazing and really informative and had a great ending.

    I think Belle's mom is the enchantress. I think she wanted everyone to stop thinking that beauty is the outside and realize that beauty is inside, just what she did with Maurice. Both had a beautiful girl both inside and out and called her Belle which means beautiful in French.
    The enchantress wanted the prince, more than anyone in the kingdom, to focus on the inside and not the outside, so she cast the spell. However, unfortunately she dies at some point. Belle grows thinking just like her mother, being the last one influenced by her mother to notice the inner beauty. That would explain why all the women are in love with Gaston because of his looks and Gaston wants to marry the most beautiful girl in the town, Belle.
    I have always thought that Gastonwas guilty of all this judgment to the people by its appearance, with Maurice and in the end when he causes that all the men are united to him to kill Beast. At Gaston's and Beast's fight, Gaston dies. After that, Belle shows her true love to Beast with a kiss, making the spell break as Belle represents the beauty that will love him no matter how he looks like.This makes Belle's mother wishes come true, she wanted to get rid of the people who believed that the beauty was only external, so Gaston dies so that there are no more people like him or anyone who could influence people to think like that. And Beast receives love learning that beauty is beyond physical appearance.
    I don't know, that's my theory, your theories seem more credible and are obviously way better, I love your videos!

In the first one, "A Whole New World," Jafar actually wins in the beginning, gets the genie and everything, and Aladdin and Jasmine invite a revolution against him with the people of Agrabah. In the second, "Once Upon A Dream," Maleficent wins, and when Philip kisses Aurora he enters her mind while under the sleeping curse and they have to escape it together. The third, "As Old As Time," asks the question you're asking: what if Belle's mother was the enchantress? And Belle found out?

    This is just my theory but here goes for anyone who'll see it. So the dress that her mother is wearing looks awfully familiar. It to me atleast looks like aurora from sleeping beauty. But that isn't enough to prove a theory. The other interesting thing however are the roses. But how would those correlate to aurora? If you remember in sleeping beauty when aurora lived with the fairies. She went by briar rose. But that would be hard stretch because her prince has a name Philip not Maurice. But I think that Philip and aurora may have both died and Maurice may be Philip's brother or cousin who belle lives with which is why she is new to the town but most people seem to know Maurice this would also make sense why she is classy and loves stories about far off places because it reminds her of home. And you have to admit Maurice does look somewhat similar to philip's father. Any way that's my theory go on your way. And as for her blonde hair people's hair can get darker as they age.

    • @alexamayo179

      Aurora lived during the 1400s and Belle the 1700s though. In the original french fairy tale of beauty and the beast Belle is accustomed to riches because her father used to be a rich merchant in the city before losing his job and having to move to the new provincial town because of becoming poor. Belle was rich even after her mother died.

    Her mother is totally the enchantress. There is that book "As Old as Time" that tells the story of how her mom was the enchantress and how she cursed the beast. Also in the new movie, the enchantress looked a lot like her, they were almost exactly alike. Plus the roses in the picture also added up. Also, why else would she save Maurice from being eaten by wolves in the new movie? Sure she's the enchantress and is good-hearted and all but could it be because it's the man she loved? I mean, at the end she gives Maurice a look before dancing with someone else. It's the only logical explanation.
