I'm not an acrobat or gymnast but I am a martial artist. I thought I might learn some new methods to improve mobility watching this video. I'm not disappointed or complaining that I didn't actually learn much of anything new but instead I'm pleased to see confirmation that I've been on the right track as I've already implemented most everything you've recommended here that can be done at home which is where I do the majority of my training. You're recommendations are all on point, for me I never focus on strength/weight training, I focus on speed, agility & mobility. Powerful strikes are not generated by big strong muscles they are generated by the kinetic chain. What it all boils down to IMHO is this: What good is power if you aren't fast enough to be the one to connect first? Focus on developing speed, balance & proper form and power will come as a biproduct of this, you never need to "muscle" a strike and doing so will only hold back your potential. For years now I have only used bodyweight, kettlebell & lighter weighted dumbbell exercises where I focus on moving through the entire range of motion possible to develop power in positions you normally wouldn't if you were focused on heavier weights in a strict range of motion and would also damage your joints if the weight was too heavy (basically just taking some fixed weight dumbbells and swinging them around like a madman, twisting my wrists, extending to different lengths etc. increase weight as you are able but only to a point). I'm 46 years old and hitting harder and faster than I ever have since implementing a lot of these strategies over the years. Good video, great recommendations I can attest to that! Gymnasts & acrobats in general are the most functionally strong people on the planet, there's a reason for that!

@@LeeWeilandhey hello mr. Lee. Ok I understand what you mean, but where do we get those correct instructions then. Do you provide online, so I can train in the comfort of my home, or can I find a class here in Belgium too ? And how this is called this type of sports ? Is it okay for a 56 years old lady too or just a joke ? I am in good shape, I mean lean, not very flexible, and a bit of a health freak 😊
But strenght and flexability is what I would like to build up in a responsible way. I thought about yoga, but there are such many types of yoga disciplines, but not so much good classes here, and I do not want to waist my time. Could you suggest ?

Careful! 100% means you can bend normally but doesn’t mean calisthenics gymnastic type moves like 1 legged squat or jumping often. If you tear it again then there might not be enough to rebuild (typically 2-3 times max). Depending on your age you must build up the surrounding muscles and limit hitting things until you can slowly slowly add capacity. I couldn’t run for almost a year myself.

I’m just not sure that I am able to do much of any of even the basics you recommend, due to past injuries and limitations. I have bad shoulders from years of construction work. (Small tears of the labrum and a grade 2 collar bone separation) I also have had a major L5,S1 disc failure, which led to a fusion and S.I. joint damage. I do engage in light strength training, some stretching and keep active with mountain biking and my job, in which I put on a mile or so daily. Even with all that, it seems I will be limited in abilities and having to do pain management for the rest of my days

While I have come a long way, it seems I have reached my rehab limits and am still doing some daily pain management and chiropractic for continuing issues. The doctors I have kept working with have warned me against putting any more strain on my back hips, shoulders. And if I hadn’t mentioned it, I am 53.

This is really a different look at fitness. Somewhat interesting. What puzzles me is how he just casually acts as though someone should easily be able to jump right into this. Where is this being done?

@LeeWeiland Is the dowel stretch ok to do when you've had rotator cuff surgery on both shoulders?

I've recently had a CT scan and it revealed that I have mild degenerative spondylosis; I lift weights, and am not very mobile. Would learning to bridge be a good or a bad idea for my back?
