They’re inside the intermediate. Can’t get stuck. I’m sure they already hit TD and also wire lined. The casing crew is on the ground getting their shit together. I laugh that people comment on slip dies. I changed many a tong die in 10 years but maybe only once for the slips.

@@kennypeshlakai2416 While working for Nabors 621 in McAllen Ranch down in South Texas, we once laid down 17,000+ ft of pipe using rotary (independent rotary table) break out tong and letting slips ride for most of the process until we had no more weight on the string. We had started on the heavy wt pipe when relief got there. Although we were “breaking the rules”, Rig manager and Superintendent knew our crew was as safe as it can be using “good old tricks”. All those “tricks are long gone...the oil field is just not the same anymore.

Yep, that's one trick I've never seen before, BUT with a muddy rig floor and those spinning slips I could see a shin bone shattering irreparably if one of the blokes slipped and got caught by the spinning handles!!!

I remember the days of laying down pipe with a cable hook and a bumper board at the end of the Cat Walk. Derrickman ran the baskets or racks while lead tong and motorman did the floor work. Not sure why the lead tong hand was having so much trouble. On that type of pipe where it has a grooved collar, the tongs need to sit lower, closer to the seam for a better bite. The top of the collar is slightly thicker on those, making the tongs harder to bite, even with new dies.
