    BTW, the biggest sin that can be committed on a rig, is the lose of the key to the v-door. I spent about 30 minutes looking for that damn thing under the sub-structure with mud, water and oil raining down on me until the tool pusher, Mike Stone, helped me out. I unlocked the v-door and drilling proceeded. Glad y'all have yours!

      Also we only trip PH6

    • @LaCadena516
      @LaCadena516  Před 6 lety +1

      You want to be able to hang out past the end of the board. If your lanyard is too short you will always have a hard time reaching out to the elevators. Also if all you are tripping is ph-6 you need to hobble the elevators to where they are just almost level. That will make latching them much easier. Other than that it’s all about timing! Hope this helps!

    • @LaCadena516
      @LaCadena516  Před 3 lety +2

      Just a habit to keep the block away from the board. If the block is swaying back and forth that will keep it from hitting the board. Of course as long as it’s not out of control! 😂

    A few questions. How long are the strands as the fisheye lens distorts it a bit? What happens when you’re out of strands in that rack where they’re all laid out there? Do you get more somehow? If so, how are they loaded into that “hopper”? Are you signaling anybody that the strand is properly loaded or does the derrick keep moving and you just have to keep up? What is something roomies fuck up a lot doing this job? And when you push the strand out waiting for the “grip” (maybe?) to come back up, are you resting it against the tackle block it self or are you suspending the wait of that strand leaning as it comes up? I notice you lean it out and then pull it back. Thanks for the cool vid and very interesting work. Be safe if you’re still doing it.

    • @evanarnold3663
      @evanarnold3663 Před rokem +1

      As far as the resting against the block, I’m pretty sure he does it to smooth out any sway so it’s easier to slap the grips together. I have no fuckin clue about oil rigs, but that’s the best thing I could come up with

    • @DFWFeelingCocky
      @DFWFeelingCocky Před rokem

      The video is on a double, each pipe stand is about 60 feet consisting of two 30 foot sections. On triples, the stand consists of 3 30 foot sections of pipe for a total of about 90 feet Drill bits wear out. What is happening in the video is previously all the pipe has been pulled out of the hole in 60 foot sections (speeds things up). The bit has been replaced and now they are putting all the pipe back into the hole. Once all the pipe is back in the hole, drilling continues. Every additional 30 feet of drilling requires pipe to be added, A single pipe is pulled up from the v-door and added to the top of the drill stem.
