Love this man. Big respect. My first job as an 18 yr old kid was working as derrickhand trainee off the coast of Iran in 1980. Wild times. My dad worked for Hughes Tool Company and I knew all the oilfield guys from softball team we had in BAHRAIN at the time. Hard work, great pay. Love the off time. Get some !
good Derrick man right there, I been working Derricks for 3years now and relief driller, started on the floor for three months then bumped up, it's more of a life style than a job, and definitely not for just anyone,
Sir you have my respect I used to do the same thing back in the 70s fun as hell 5 gear wide open this guy is awesome it doesn’t matter how the elevators come up you just turn the bales as they come by but he is hauling ass brings back old times good job be safe. 😎
I'm 100% legal Brotha I don't mind who works where especially wut the race is.....if u r white brown blak it don't matter especially in oilfield...... wut matters is how hard u work and how quik u learn.....if u or anyone failed out there in oilfield it wasn't CUZZ ur race.....
Amen Brother. I was a derrick Man in the early 80's. It didn't take size and strength. Derrick man has to be FAST! Most derrick men are cocky and hyper alert. Fearless good men. Can't get caught with your head up your butt. When you are new, you have to earn trust. You work together all daylight hours, 6 days per week. When you gel with a steady crew, you are in a safe place. Good crews are as tight as family.
right on thats awesome. just finished my first day on a service rig, worked on a tele double for a year. think i like servicing better. less scrubbing, more trippin . and best of all no fuckin samples! just wish service riggs had the same kind of tongs as drillin rigs
Reading other's commits ,too funny!!! I played on Riggs for 22.5 years got my first brake handle at 18 in 1977. Started on rig at 15. Set up on a double told had to work up to run a single ran drive ins back ins Idecos Hoppers Wagner Morehouse Frank's and all kinds of one of kind built only thing I would not work was a gen ploe my favorite was snubbing
my nick name was latch in 77-85, first time seeing a pulling unit in action since 1985 when the oil field fell apart, I headed for Fl. and never looked back till now, Wow I did this for years and what a trip it was. Faster was better if the crew could keep up and you trust the operator, could not get past me at any speed.
Why y'all hating. Anybody can latch when it's slow as hell. Not just anybody can latch with the blocks running at you full speed. Those blocks can move and you gotta be quick and have a method. I been working derricks almost 3 yrs and I still learn something new everyday. Just gotta "git it"
+rigguyjt , Lol you must be working for Hess! I agree, the faster the better. You get in a zone and things run smooth. Everybody gets in sync. Stopping the blocks takes FOREVER. You damn near freeze to death in North Dakota running that slow. A trip in or out would take half the damn day.
This is wat I like to see.. U can zee that this man like his job and want to be fast and good as posable.. this is experience and a hard tuff kind of attitude.. hard work . No bulshit... keep ureself bizzy and of the mind.. skills man!
This man can latch some pipe dang!!! I'm an operator. Lot of guys don't like it. I'd rather be trippin for 12 hours a day twenty days straight then paint and scrub a few hours a day. Biggest difference workover can't pull nearly as much but boy can we scream in and out the hole. Be safe guys
Niceee man. I'm a rookie derrickhand. Breaking out on a brand new 4 line. Havent got to latch yet will tomoro lol. They let me try one today to go tag ran it to me n 7th but it was hopeless I missed by a mile pipe is 66ft way to tall lol I'll learn I hope. Good job again
When the driller is running them at you like that derrickman needs to look-up each time after latching to make sure he's not 'snagged' don't want to give the floorhand a derrickman-donut on his foot lol
was this coming on mornings? what stand were you guys tripping in on that day? that is fucking FAST. I guess so long as nothing severe doesn't happen if the derrick misses. Driller is ALWAYS staring up at crow's nest while raising the traveling block i've seen a string or two slip out of the finger board and fall toward the derrick as we were drilling (kelly rig) on Ensign 46 in ND
Yep....do that with short bails....lol... My driller always wanted me to look up and make sure the elevator was latched....I got into the habit of doing it........
Im not even close to being a derrick hand because I'm scared of heights but I gotta say its funny as hell seeing the drilling rig derrick hands talking shit about the size of pipe! I bet the big shit is hell to latch up but y'all forgetting about the speed of a workover rig lol. I've heard plenty of stories from old time hands taking about drill hands coming to workover saying they are the best derrick hands in the world then asking "what was that"? Then the operator or pusher having to explain "that was the blocks that just flew past you" hahaha
Damn good derrickman quick hands, I'm a pusher for well servicing I would hire you in a quickness half these guys talk shit probably never stepped foot like we have keep it up
Worked derrick for 12 years I loved the job then went drilling super job he is doing most commenters from what I see I think never stepped foot on the diving board cheers
I'm new to derricks been working it for 4 weeks I can latch on 5th but he clutches out a bit. I have trouble on tall pipe. Cameron rig 6ft bells bv elevators. Any help?
This is normal all derrick men do this every day and it's nice weather make that 30 degree's and raining with 5" drill pipe covered in synthetic mud that's fun.
5th wide open... is there any other way... I used to catch them spinning, I could catch them sent up closed, I could catch slingshots. I could catch them with a rag in them. But I could never catch them closed with a rag in them ... I tried and tried. Lol. Rigging isn't a job it's a lifestyle...
Barrow Island Western Australia forty years ago two IDECO workovers with the fifth gear blanked off as being to dangerous and costly as it was a carton of beer ever stand treed. We also had a mountain rig and before those rigs we had a Freddy Cooper workover very fast very dangerous.
Love this man. Big respect. My first job as an 18 yr old kid was working as derrickhand trainee off the coast of Iran in 1980. Wild times. It'''s hard to appreciate how skilled this guy is unless you try to do what he does in one sercond or less.
Sir you have my respect I used to do the same thing back in the 70s fun as hell 5 gear wide open this guy is awesome it doesn’t matter how the elevators come up you just turn the bales as they come by but he is hauling ass brings back old times good job be safe. 😎

Very true I spend 25 years on them most leave I loved it
Bro..."Burnin" that dead line. Good job, man! Good vid, Anthony...
Buddy is good. That’s a good hand right there. Work safe boys.
To me you're the best derrickhand that i've ever seen. I work derricks as well hopfully on day i'll be as good as you if not better.
Those long as bells come in handy.this guy is a good hand
That is pretty quick. Good thing you have good equipment and small easy to maneuver pipe.
Fast hands and rare to latch with left hand. Nice work.
Am i the only one that swings the pipe...i fucking love it when the tubing slams in the elevators without much pushing
Good driller and good Derrick man
right on thats awesome. just finished my first day on a service rig, worked on a tele double for a year. think i like servicing better. less scrubbing, more trippin . and best of all no fuckin samples! just wish service riggs had the same kind of tongs as drillin rigs

Out working the rig. Love it
Im 19 almost 20 and I been doing this for 1 year and 7 months and love it
my nick name was latch in 77-85, first time seeing a pulling unit in action since 1985 when the oil field fell apart, I headed for Fl. and never looked back till now, Wow I did this for years and what a trip it was.

good job bro much respects and props.
awsome....balls of steel work.
Pretty damn quick. I noticed No shock absorber on your harness. Are they built into the fall arrestor or what?
Why y'all hating. Anybody can latch when it's slow as hell. Not just anybody can latch with the blocks running at you full speed. Those blocks can move and you gotta be quick and have a method. I been working derricks almost 3 yrs and I still learn something new everyday. Just gotta "git it"
John Whitaker I liked working derricks until they started making us stop the blocks. that's for pussys. The faster, the better I say.
Hell yeah. I've never worked for a company that did that, but I wouldn't want To either
Well drilling ballet.
So fuckin what. All those stands of doubles are perfectly uniform. Try latching tall pipe in 5th gear. Then you can brag. Js
This is wat I like to see..
U can zee that this man like his job and want to be fast and good as posable.. this is experience and a hard tuff kind of attitude.. hard work .
No bulshit... keep ureself bizzy and of the mind.. skills man!
very cool ...very quick..... nice job
looks fun when I quit tower rigging I might try that
Looks good to me, good job bro.
Man I use to love being a Derrickman
dude, I ain't gonna give you no sh!t, and regardless of pipe size as others have stated you're pretty damn fast Amigo!!!!
very nice job man
Dam nice job man
Pretty solid latching, especially considering with those stiff arse elevators
For one the dope bucket is on the wrong side of the elevators? Might make him look faster?
This man can latch some pipe dang!!! I'm an operator. Lot of guys don't like it. I'd rather be trippin for 12 hours a day twenty days straight then paint and scrub a few hours a day. Biggest difference workover can't pull nearly as much but boy can we scream in and out the hole. Be safe guys
That's good latching man. Screw the negative comments everyone quick to talk trash without a video to back it up
DAMN!!! Impressive.
7 th gear must've been a rush, almost overdrive... 5th is wide open but not that fast... lol
I was trained on double fastline rig in 1980 5th gear jumps just before the tubing board clutch is kicked out and brakes applied .
I like how you just do your job and don’t talk smack about other rigs or crews or regions. Steady.
matt pernar I only talk trash when other people start first!
fuckin at right, that's how I was taught to play the song
Awesome work! How does one get a foot in the door for Rig work?
Good job carnal
Will the hiring company train you before sending you out. ?? Thanks in advance I just got a callback in cali
I used to latch in 5th gear laying down and sitting down 2 and a 1/2 inch pipe
When the driller is running them at you like that derrickman needs to look-up each time after latching to make sure he's not 'snagged' don't want to give the floorhand a derrickman-donut on his foot lol

Working the hangman's crown 👑.

poetry in motion
work over is a lot different than drilling, 12 years in mn
Im not even close to being a derrick hand because I'm scared of heights but I gotta say its funny as hell seeing the drilling rig derrick hands talking shit about the size of pipe! I bet the big shit is hell to latch up but y'all forgetting about the speed of a workover rig lol. Damn good derrickman quick hands, I'm a pusher for well servicing I would hire you in a quickness half these guys talk shit probably never stepped foot like we have keep it up
Worked derrick for 12 years I loved the job then went drilling super job he is doing most commenters from what I see I think never stepped foot on the diving board cheers
dude throw 3 1/2 like a real derrick hand
He latches that elevator so fast you can barely see it occur.
Looks like a work over we stayed in 5+h gear back in the 80's Northwestern fields around Madison Ville TX
Hell yea! Shit a lot of companies block 5th gear these days
thats pretty good
why are you not starting the joints ?
I'm new to derricks been working it for 4 weeks I can latch on 5th but he clutches out a bit. I have trouble on tall pipe. Cameron rig 6ft bells bv elevators. Any help?
This is normal all derrick men do this every day and it's nice weather make that 30 degree's and raining with 5" drill pipe covered in synthetic mud that's fun.
could jump that pipe enough to scare the fuck outta the floor hands and with a good operater it's DEAD NUTS ON
badass old man tripping pipe.
its coo cuz I don't do that any more I run the rig now ... but like I said I wanna see ur video just to see how u do
Hey man im just starting derricks in a triple. Just thought id ask if ya had any advice.
thanx lc smith
Quarter turn on them elevators or is it just that windy?
isnt the safety harness supposed to go between your legs aswell? Thats mandatory where I work.
Worked a few Hyper Hopper jack Knifes. Those blocks run fast.
i broke out on a Hopper in Wyoming.
Bout the only thing I miss about the patch!!
it might look slow but wut u doubt c is how fast the elevators traveled 60 ft
LIVED IN ABILENE BACK IN THE EIGHTIES DID EVERYTHING BUT THE BRAKE !
