I worked on 4 different Patterson rigs and I learned a very valuable lesson, you're as good of a hand as those who train you. It wasn't until I went to a different rig that I realized those who broke me out were completely incompetent.

I think that’s the first thing every hand ever set foot off the rig he broke out on realizes the second his old pushers boot comes off his neck😉😂 I know it was mine! Went right from “Did I do good?” To “Hell…I was the only chain throwing, pipe tripping hand on that pig. I basically trained myself. They were just about to move me to motors when they laid us off too. Damn economy…” 😂😂😂

To everyone offended by the title calling the newbie "worthless": anyone who has been a part of a crew of guys doing tough work will tell you that ribbing each other is part of the glue that holds the group together. Everyone rides the shit out of each other. It makes the day go quicker and the laughs provide a bit of relief from the ball busting work. At the end of the day everyone has each other's back. I'm stuck working in an office now after spending 20+ years in construction crews. I miss those days and those guys.

I used to work the rigs too. I really don’t see where that roughneck did anything wrong. It’s a little slower paced today. Maybe the way it should have been in the days I started. He’s learning the job properly.

Ah everyone has got to start somewhere. If you have ever worked as a roughneck or as an ironworker, boiler maker, pipe fitter ect... And never been run off for being green then I guess you ain't worked to many jobs. But if you put out and show up you will make friends you will always be working somewhere out on the road. As time goes on your skills improve and you will find yourself one-day teaching skills to a green helper.

  • @IsaacMorgan98

For anyone who doesn't understand the ribbing you get in these types of jobs. We need to know if you can handle bad situations, can you laugh it off, or even better join in if we bully you is a minor version of can you keep a cool head when things go south, cause things will go south and the team needs to know if you have the fortitude for that. If you can't handle a ribbing then you sure as shit can't handle it when the fire is on, a mistake or accident happens and you need to act quickly and calmly to make sure people don't get injured or die.
I'm an arborist and I gotta know my boys can react appropriately when a saw goes flying or a log comes barrelling towards a person or property.
