  • Around here if your afraid to get dirty then your not a roughneck, this oil well was drilled in the year 1890. It still does about a barrel a day.The Drilling rig is a Cyclone 44 built in 1947.

    thats how I broke out myself, did that shit for over 30 years and it broke me down, I done that when the drilling rigs stacked out in 85, what I'll tell people is don't get into that pulling machine life if you want a life, I was on the break handle all my time doing it and absolutely hated it but it was what jobs were available in the area I lived in...

    I worked on pulling units like that as a young man on my dad's leases in southern Illinois. Our's were tractor mounted. We had about Superior powers 20 to 30 HP running 10 to 30 wells each. All of that is gone now. Sure was hard work. No one would do that anymore. Thanks for sharing.

      Still doing this today. I'm curious about the cone used on the pipe to divert the spray from the tubing and where I can get one. We take many baths in crude and salt water from the pressure.

    RE: fast work speed. Every situation where I have seen a work crew hauling ass, I have seen accidents happen and people hurt usually seriously. No one ever wants to admit they are fatigued and thats when shit happens. Working at breakneck speeds is downright stupid and leads to accidents. Sure its great to have bragging rights in the bar after work but ask the guy with the broken back who had a length of pipe fall and hit him because one of the guys couldn't keep up due to how tired he had gotten. Try telling that to his wife & kids now that he can't work anymore and the kids are hungry.

    Those guys are pussy’s. I did that shit all by myself 100 years ago with a Pall Mall red hangin outta my mouth. It was always 125 degrees outside and I didnt have anything to drink. I didnt have a pipe wrench so I unscrewed the pipe with my bare hands. I coulda worked circles around those guys!

    I'd spring for a 24" chain tongs
    AND get a safety flipper for the hook
    to keep the bales from jumping out
    Why is the pipe coming wet like that?

    • @piecrazy4
      @piecrazy4 Před rokem

      It is wet because the well does not have a insert pump you have a valve and cups on the bottom of the rods and at the bottom of the tubing is a barrel with the other valve for the pump in it so since the valve is still at the bottom you still have fluid in the tubing

      Rod wear inside tubing. Might have a split.

    • @jacobmiller3795
      @jacobmiller3795 Před 5 lety

      Could be the well sucked the fluid out of their test jug indicating a hole in the tubing

    • @lylechase34
      @lylechase34 Před 5 lety

      Well since they are pulling wet my guess is parted rods, the tubing obviously not open ended or the oil is high on the backside but that doesn't make any sense if the well only produces a barrel a day

  • @christianworthinton8000

    Only in America do speed tongs consist of a hammer and a 24 inch pipewrench!
