My buddy Tyler and I got out of a boring lecture on thermal systems and decided we would go take an airplane up and have fun flying around over the Palouse and northern Idaho.

Flying a friend up to Kellogg to pick up his new car. We took off from a crop duster strip on the Palouse and head out over the mountains of Idaho. It was a really turbulent day so I apologize for the bumpy video. This is my first video edit. Enjoy!!

That's the old way! Now ST-80 is used! Makes up breaks up , & ttorques pipe! I worked 25 years on drilling rigs
When I worked o this rig it had an st80 then switched to a tm80. Motor man would stand by the driller and push buttons on a touch screen.....What a joke that thing was.
I remember the days of laying down pipe with a cable hook and a bumper board at the end of the Cat Walk. Derrickman ran the baskets or racks while lead tong and motorman did the floor work. Not sure why the lead tong hand was having so much trouble. On that type of pipe where it has a grooved collar, the tongs need to sit lower, closer to the seam for a better bite. The top of the collar is slightly thicker on those, making the tongs harder to bite, even with new dies.

What do you do if last drill pipe falls down the well hole
You start looking for another job! hahahah If that did happen and you did not get run off then we would probably trip back in the hole and try and screw into the pipe. if that didn't work we would come out and install an overshot tool and use that to extract it.

@@stretchsimmons6562 I spent 15 years on Drilling rigs all over Texas and punched holes and layed down and tripped more pipe than most will ever even think about. Don't need to get on a wash over to know I don't care to see another drilling rig as long as I live. Lost my dad to one in 68.
Make er bite wormy then push and let the rotary pull out yer cable before you unlatch. Why you laying down your stands? No free lunches on one of those.

Believe it or not I actually bought it in that condition from the original owner. It was An old guy who bought it brand new and barely rode it. I haven’t done anything to it.

Boss if working on an oil drilling team is in the usa . Theres no reason i cant do it . Tough job would rather be an astronaut or a pilot but if ruffnecking it for 40 hrs a week makes me American then sign me up

Worked this rig for 3 years ,watched them stack it shortly after Brigham exploration got bought out.lotta good memories on this iron.

Yeah. We had a roughneck that was in his 50’s. Hell, I was roughnecking at 39. Better hit that iron or it’ll hit you, especially on rig move. Be in shape.
