The worst danger on a drilling rig is the weight which you are working around . Drill string, tongs , slips , etc. You shouldn’t hit anything flammable unless the geologists f’ed up on the depth of the pay zone. That being said, you are still punching a hole in Mother Earth. Did it for 10 years.
I ran a small mobile rotary rig taking soil and rock samples but the drill rods we used were similar just smaller...the coarse conical threads make it pretty much impossible to cross tread.
Im ignorant to the field, but dont you usually use two people to drop the collar? Just seems like a good way to loose toes kicking it in. But impressive as hell, much respect
