    Teslacam Stories is a series of Tesla owners real experiences told by the Tesla Dashcam and Sentry Mode videos. All incidents are recorded from Tesla vehicles and submitted to this channel by other Tesla enthusiast. I contact each person who send me their videos to talk with them and learn more about their story and to follow up what happened after what we see on their video. Voice over and captions are added to describe what happened, and why. I believe that this additional information regarding the incident gives the videos a newsworthy value.
    From the footage and additional information, a viewer can learn the consequences of bad driving and can educate his/her self with better driving safety. This process also gives the videos a great educational value. It is my desire to add my own unique and creative value in a transformative way to ensure you enjoy and learn from the videos being presented.

    I got an email from Isaiah, the submitter of Video #11:
    I think it may be important to update the comment section/community that my girlfriend had a previous neck injury in a car accident. Without this context, much of the comment section believes that my girlfriend was lying about her neck pain for insurance fraud money. All we asked from the driver at fault's insurance was to pay for the repairs of my Model 3.
    I can without a doubt confirm we spent hours at the nearest Kaiser emergency room. (I had to wait 6+hours in the parking lot due to covid protocols). I was excited to show my gf the video but with so much negativity in the comment section, it genuinely hurts to see.
    _
    Thanks Isaiah,
    I hope your girlfriend is feeling better. And to everyone else, please be kind to each other - and especially to the submitters, they are the ones who makes the Teslacam Stories happen.

      i. Remember young Padawan learner. When can the vehicle in front of you slam on it's brakes 100%.... The answer is: AT ANY TIME AT ALL. Always assume the moment you look away the cars in front might slam on their brakes so if you have to look at something you need to back off.
      ii. A car closer to you can completely obscure an equal sized vehicle or even bigger farther away. Once in a blue moon you will look at a two or more lane road and see a single vehicle and think okay I have space and time to cross the street before he gets here but as you start rolling or walking you see oh there was a second vehicle obscured by him... So don't be in a hurry to the grave.. It has patience and will wait.
      iii. As in ii. sometimes a rig/truck whatever it's called is pulling two boxes not one. It is easy to look back and not see there is a second box behind the first. It is easy to see the first box pass you and not see the low to the freeway tow bar so be careful not to pull into the second box. Numerous times I've noticed I don't see the second box until most of the first has passed.
      iv. Whenever something wonky is happening up a head tripple or more how much space you have between cars in front.
      v. Sometimes if you have a moronic passenger who is distracting you and you can't drive safe with their stupidity you may have to dump them out.
      vi. During busy hours well worth detouring around dangerous spots.
      Been driving since 1985 and so far no accidents but many people I know who had accidents wasn't a surprise.

Only the worst of the worst even sign up for the job, unless you want to become a career criminal you don't become a police officer in the USA anymore.
      I fear in the near future police will be a leading force in the "democrat's" mass genocide against anyone that see's them for the real life supervillains they truly are... Notice their genocidal rhetoric, they have changed the word "white supremesist" to mean literally anyone that see's them for the international criminals and scam artists they really are.

      @Grant ingelbret,
      Tesla markets three features -
      1) Normal Cruise Control
      2) Enhanced Auto Pilot (EAP) where onboard computer has the capability to brake and accelerate the vehicle in addition to maintaining cruise control.
      3) Of course, the FSD which in addition to EAP, has the capability to navigate the vehicle, follow traffic control devices.
      Whether feature #1 & #2 are copout or not, that consumers can always vote with their wallet.

    • @patricksweeney6334
      @patricksweeney6334 Pƙed rokem

      AutoPilot isn't presented as being FSD, of course. Tesla's enhanced autopilot is *great* to use, especially in commuter traffic, but it's still the driver's responsibility to pay attention to what the car is doing, and correct anything it may make an incorrect choice on. Even responsibly doing that, while letting the car deal with the drudgery of a commute is (as you note) hugely valuable.
      FSD is currently still in Beta, and you still have to literally let the car anyalyze your driving for awhile before it will even enable it. Watching current FSD-Beta videos are quite impressive. But even with that, the driver is supposed to monitor what the car is doing, and take over if it makes an incorrect decision.
      Tesla's aren't ready to completely drive themselves yet, but we long ago passed the point where many people shouldn't even be allowed to drive at all. When did we stop re-testing to maintain one's license, and why? At this point in time, regular re-testing for a license should include in-car camera footage of X-amount of time (say, 30 days of actual driving?) of how someone drives, for every drive that occurs in that time frame.

      @@proto12qs I might have said the same thing as you until I had my first accident after 40 years of driving. Don't give up because I didn't. The money will have to come from the big pot of taxes they take from us. I researched the road design manual after my wreck. When I first started driving was when rumble strips came out and they studied them for 35 years. The place of my accident on the interstate had no rumble strips. It is the least cost improvement that saves lives on our highways. Per many many studies done by universities across the land along with the 50 highway departments set up for our safety They gave them a 16% reduction just in fatalities. Read the "Green Book" of road design. Look at the recommended design and the allowed design. The road designers were taught by our people when we built the Universities. The American people gave massive amounts of money to these people to teach our children to build safe roads and the best value. It is up to us.
      You say excellent recover from the Jersey barriers and it looks good but Jersey barriers are proven to be unsafe and only used because the people will not spend money on a wider right of way. Look at an accident with Jersey barriers on both sides and then a vehicle catches fire and people just keep ramming into the the bunch because there is no where to go. It is a death trap. The people choose instead to install hospital trauma centers along our freeways as part of the answer for safety on our roads.
      The funding after it has been built will be ours and that of our children because after 50 years these roads are not going anywhere. In the future consider the concept of "clear zone" and maybe allow the crosses of death to remain on the highways, at least we can see the dangerous sections.

      It's a recipe for a massive split in society - those wealthy enough to own their own transportation and those who aren't. The secondhand market for electric autonomous vehicles won't be nearly as accessible to the every man and woman as traditional cars are.

    Kudos to the Tesla driver in clip #1. Driving at a safe distance, not relying on the technology, staying alert and stopping in plenty of time. A perfect job. However, I'm not sure I can excuse the Tesla's automatic braking as that Lexus would have been slowing very rapidly after the impact. As for the Lexus driver, they really ought not to be on the road. How somebody can drive into the back of another car in perfect visibility conditions and not brake until just before the collision escapes me, especially if they were driving at, perhaps 80mph.
    As for clip #2, that Tesla didn't sop just in time at all. It had intruded into the pedestrian crossing. The one who was paying attention was the pedestrian as she clearly hung back to make sure the Tesla did stop before crossing in front. I'm not sure it deserved the friendly wave. Personally I do not start across a pedestrian crossing until it's clear that all car drivers have seen me and are slowing down appropriately.
    Incidentally, the way that the US insurance system seems to rely on the individual driver's dealing directly with third party insurance companies seems to be inherently consumer hostile. Where I live, if you get involved with an accident that is not your fault, you still put in the claim against your own insurance company, and they arrange repairs, decide if the car is a write-off and so on. Then, if it's deemed that the other driver is at fault, then they pursue the other party's insurer to recover their costs and then you don't have a claim on your record. Of course there is still the possibility of a contested claim that might, ultimately, go to court, but those are rare. However, what helps a lot is to have dash cam footage, whether this goes to court of not, to determine which driver is responsible or if responsibility is shared.

    • @CL-gq3no
      @CL-gq3no Pƙed 2 lety +53

      You would probably feel differently if you used autopilot. It works very well in that situation because it takes care of the basics like maintaining a set distance and lane centering. That allows the driver to focus more on everything else instead of just staring at lines and the bumper in front of them constantly. That means the driver can focus more attention on what is going on a few cars ahead, the car to their left that is driving erratically, etc which gives them a better chance of avoiding an accident. You can just override whatever Autopilot is doing at any moment so it doesn't really matter if autopilot is driving. In other words, autopilot isn't just for letting the driver chill. It can also assist the driver so they can be MORE focused on traffic around them. It all depends on how you use it in a given situation.

      @@jeremygoss619 Long before I owned my Tesla, probably 10 years ago, I started noticing the trends while driving around. You'd see a car doing strange things, and assume they were drunk. Get closer, and realize they were VERY concentrated on their little screen, with little regards to their surroundings. All this, while travelling at 50+ mph. Today, I regularly see professional truck drivers doing the same (with MUCH higher stakes), even the driver of a tanker truck in the last week or so. I use my FSD as a means of reducing fatigue, not as a substitute for paying attention, and when I see comments that imply that inattention is a Tesla problem, I get a little irritated ;)
      We need to have our police pay much less attention to speeders, and MUCH more to those driving without paying attention, as the latter are probably WAY more likely to produce an accident (whether they are Tesla drivers or not). The problem with driver assistance features (Tesla, and all the others) is that they are built assuming the people will be reasonably responsible. Unfortunately, as a species, we seem to be "all stocked up" on idiots ... and "Common Sense" is apparently not so common ;)
      If you see your colleagues driving down the freeway doing this, maybe a short reminder on the CB can nudge them?

    Especially if it’s a forest road (like there is a lot in villages in France) if you try to turn you surely still hit the animal and you might hit after that a tree or an other car. So just break if you can but autopilot make a good job.

    For video 8, it had nothing to do with how fast the truck was trying to merge with the trailer. The problem was that they didn't have the trailer loaded correctly. There wasn't enough forward weight in the trailer, causing it to oscillate left/right until it spun the truck out of control. If the weight/balance point was closer to the hitch, it wouldn't have done that

    #8, the merging truck and trailer, appears to have made a common mistake among people pulling trailers. As they merged in a not so smooth manner, the trailer started fishtailing (oscillating or swaying side to side). The way to correct a trailer fishtailing is to accelerate smoothly and carefully until the trailer has stopped its oscillations, and then smoothly brake if needed. You can see that the driver instinctively started braking, but that just makes it worse, and caused loss of control. Loss of control is common when this happens if people brake instead of accelerating carefully.
