- I manufacture another steuerpimpel and give it a try with slightly improved results. (I have since learned that new steuerpimpels are readily available to me).

You are way more patient than me! Congrat Jim. But please finish the job. I am waiting for the conclusion!
Jim, The lack of grease on the main cam tells me this unit was previously cleaned and may have been mis-adjusted. I have never seen a Dual without grease. The arm appears to be lifting too high and binding up. (as you suspect) The arm should lift just high enough to just clear its post, or not more than about 2mm.The start lever was binding up because of corrosion on the shaft, or old grease. (the shaft bearings should be oiled, not greased) The correct fix is the removal of the levers, clean, and relube with machine oil. The problem with the Duals is hardened grease. The only reliable fix is the complete removal of the old grease. The speed selector needs to be disassembled cleaned and greased, also all of the levers, cam, and mechanism. Follow the service manual lube recommendations. There are lube substitute/ upgrades to prevent future problems. For example, I use special Pennzoil light wheel bearing grease which does not harden, an upgrade over the service manual spec. The substitute lube should be the same viscosity as prescribed by the service manual. If you just add lube to the old grease, the lever and mechanism may free up for now, but probably will again bind up. The only correct way to revive a Dual is by major disassembly, clean, and lube. Any quick fixes will result in short term operation, and possibly incorrect operation..
Is there any further upper motion of the tone arm available after the upper pimple lifts it? It looks like maybe the the upper pimple is trying to push the tone arm up further than it can go and the pinch drastically increases its' friction.
JimDId you get it going? I'm having the same problem on my 1229
I have overhauled my dual 1225 turntable. Is there steuerpimples for this turntable and if so where can I obtain these. Does this turntable use 1 or 2?
did you resolve this puzzle
Im about to take the plunge and doin my homework?
did you post a video 7? i couldn't find it...
Here is a book I found that deals with old record changers and the ac motors written in 1962. " Repairing home audio systems" E. Eugene Ecklund. It looks like 150 pages are devoted to record changers. ISBN-10 / 0070189730, ISBN-13 / 978-0070189737. Like these videos. The book is 311 pages. I like that dish hanger jig.
I don't understand why you didn't just remove the c-clip that holds the axle for that black thing, then it's much easier to put that steuer thingy on.
Did you solve it? I have a 1218 doing the same thing.
Colin McCarthy Well that player road around in my car trunk for a few weeks and is now resting peacefully among a large pile of similar turntables. Once some new stumblebumpers are ordered, it will get fixed but that might be awhile since it was a cast off and no one is waiting breathlessly for it.
Had the same problem with a Dual 1237 : Just remove the black main lever and put some tape on the back of this lever : It will give some grip to the metallic pin and the auto mechanism will work fine again .I have a photo of this but cannot upload it .
If one has a test disc as bad as that. you cloud put it under some hot water both sides. it will be flat again.(you can even do it its good discs if you protect the label)
Steuerpimpel diameter to large?
Well I have the opposite issue : it goes up and directly to the end of the disc 😂
this is a common problem people seem to have when steuerpimple is replaced and arm still doesnt move you need to check adjustable plastic collet on cue lift rod visible on top of turntable on the shaft with cue lift rod under tone arm, usually it splits and allows too much upward travel and too much friction basically locking arm in place, part is unavailable ,use a tiny zip tie around it then after adjusting glue in place
Correct, had this issue. That adjuster was set so that the tonearm was lifte too high. Adjusting it so the tonearm gat a bit lower (3mm offset from resting point) and solved.
one circlip and you can remove the lifting arm.
I did not see video 5, Are you hiding it from me lol

Bgmn....?
You are overthinking this. I cant believe that your first remedy was not to lubricate the thing. 6 videos with no result so just as well there is fast forward! I have repaired lots of these and they all respond to proper lubrication. There is nothing wrong with the tt, it just needed lube.
Bruce Taylor what type of lubrication do you recomended?
