  • Part 6 of my dual 1224 turntable servicing project. I removed and cleaned the cam gear, re lubricated it and re-istalled it. The tonearm is haunting me really badly! This thing is playing tricks on me! I can't get it right and I'm considering buying a 1225 to replace it, that will hopefully work out of the box (not likely though).
I'm not very good with fine mechanical things. I'm technical but I'm a building engineer and not a fine mechanic. I'm used to designing structural drawings for buildings and know how coarse/inpricise and improvised things are done in the building world. But the world of fine mechanics is exactly the opposite. I'm used to a way of working where everything has to be done fast and where the design is often not built exactly as it has been designed.
Fine mechanical designs require extreme patience and very fine tolances that I'm not used to. Anyway, If I where to design a turntable, it would be similair to a 1225 but also different in some ways. I would re design the automatic with a electronic approach, using a simple motor a micro controller and some sensors, and less grease so that I don't get my hands dirty!
BTW, any suggestions are welcome. I want an automatic turntable, but I want it to be easier to maintain.
