  • I am no stranger to the label that often gets thrown at certain bands of being a "gimmick" or a "joke band". Unfortunately for this band, the gimmick was not being a man playing rock music. How strange when you really think about it. Let's have a look at one of their songs and actually discuss whether or not this band was deserving of more success and whether or not they were just a gimmick.

Fanny performed tonight in San Francisco. June Millington, Jean Millington and Brie Howard-Darling (who recorded the Fanny Walked The Earth album in 2018) along with Lee John (Jean’s son and June’s nephew) playing bass. Jean suffered a stroke in 2018 rendering her unable to play bass. Still, Jean can sing and am delighted she is playing tonight.

You don't need to spend a lot on a good guitar either. Look at Ibanez, Sawtooth, LTD (ESPs lower brand) Schechter, Harley Benton, Squire (Fenders lower brand).
The guitarist (fingers) is responsible for great sound/tone, not the guitar. Also, majority of the tone in Electric Guitar comes from the actual model of speaker/driver you play through. They are not Hifi speakers with perfectly flat frequency responses, Guitar speakers have all kinds of different voicings which drastically effect the sound ( which can be seen in a speakers Freq. Response graph on most speaker MFGs websites)

You do shit like, this piece about this band Fanny and show off cool bands that may have slipped through the cracks. The way you noodle about on your guitar and find the song but it's not in a educational sense, it just kind of show how the guitar is the ultimate fidget toy, ad it's part of your voice. It's just great, man. Even when you point out something lame, you aren't too negative about it. I just hope you know you're doing something valuable, even if the stakes aren't dire. A kind of capo or transpose function did feature in some pianos manufactured in the early 20th century. Irvin Berlin could only play in E flat, so had a specially adapted piano made that could transpose at the flick of a mechanical switch. Of course todays midi digital pianos mostly have transpose switch, which i admit has saved my onstage blushes on a couple occasions. .

Not to take anything away from bands like The Runaways, but I think Fanny should have been just as if not more recognized. They were all just powerhouse musicians.

@@cockoffgewgle4993 wasn’t my point at all. And you can’t really compare them to the runaways since they were more straight up rock. I meant in terms of all female bands. No one I know knows who Fanny is, and I discovered them by accident a few years ago. But everyone knows who Joan Jett and Lita Ford are, and their “good” songs are meh, in my opinion.

I wasn’t paying particularly close attention for the first few minutes, so color me surprised to find this group is from the 70’s!? Sounds as fresh and fierce as if it were put out this morning. Even the Hammond, having fallen out of the mainstream, lent what I imagined to be a funky throwback vibe to a new track. Lead singer’s voice was 👩‍🍳 💋!
