While the russians slaughtered the Nazis (good?), they also slaughtered innocents that were mistaken. Russia and Nazi Germany could both be considered Axis powers, however even Axis forces can be enemies together. The exact number of German women and girls raped by Soviet troops during the war and occupation is uncertain, but historians estimate their numbers are likely in the hundreds of thousands, and possibly as many as two million.

My British father in law was stationed in Berlin very shortly after the cessation of hostilities.
As a very old man, who I had always respected as a kind but solid and self-assured, ex-regular British army soldier who had seen it all, he told me a little about the situation at the time and the horrific actions of the Russians on the German population.
When I say “a little” I mean just that, but he told me enough to understand.
In the weeks before he died, several times he’d begin to try to tell me the whole story, I think because he needed to tell someone to unburden himself but also because he needed, he felt the duty, to make sure that the awful truth of what he’d witnessed would not be forgotten by future generations.
He was always eventually forced into silence by his attempts to hide his tears.
Until then, in the forty years that I knew him, I had never seen him be anything other than set strong and silent in the most upsetting of situations.
He was a man of his generation to the core. One of the best, kindest and most decent men I’ve had the honour of knowing.
He entrusted me with his memory of those times to keep them alive, so I must.
That is why I support Ukraine, first and foremost.

The Christian Prussians defeated the Old Prussians (pegans), moved in in 1255, settled and developed that area 300 years before the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth came to power in the mid 16th century. The Polish Kingdom only owned Koenigsberg for 1 year. The following 100 years the area was under Polish ownership, but German administration who had to pledge their loyalty to the Polish king. Sweden actually owned it for 1 year as well after the Polish empire started to crumble. The Baltic Republic Party, founded in 1993 and outlawed by Putin in 2003, held a referendum in 2023 to leave the Russian Federation. Apparently, 71 percent voted yes. I'm a Canadian, the majority of the population here are isolationist. Surrounded by three oceans and A USA power house to our south - our military spending is atrocious and the quality and quantity of our armed forces is embarrassing. I do not understand the unwillingness to sell Ukraine majority of our old stockpiles and equipment in order to finance new stuff that is all basically about to be replaced anyways. The population often says instead of sending money or equipment to Ukraine we should be helping our own people within our country which shows the priority of the people. Every NATO country should be emptying out their stockpiles in overwhelmingly support for Ukraine and stopping this onslaught in order to avoid Canadian and European troops being the next targets. Ukrainian blood is sparing the lives of our own people and we should start being thankful and supportive of this. If Ukraine falls, were next.

American here…NATO needs to change their rules about who can ask for help in a member country. It needs to be the President and/or the Presidents cabinet,and/or that countries Supreme Court, or some other political body that’s small and can move quickly if needed.

When Russia started the full invasion on 24 February 2022 I panicked. Although I live in the Netherlands I am born in 1953 and inherited the fear of war from my parents. During the Cuba crisis I felt the anxiety from my mother and it always stayed with me. When the iron curtain came down the feeling disappeared and I have to confess that I didn’t pay much attention to Putins aggression against Georgia and Chechenia. When the Ukrainian army held back the Russian army I felt a little relieved and when they liberated a huge amount of Ukraine I thought Russia is doomed. But with the don’t escalate strategy I became more worried again. Even with the weapons bill stuck in the USA Congress I lost hope that the USA will come to Europe’s rescue again. Which my uncle warned me for when I was in my teens and protested against the cruise missiles in our country. He thought that nato countries should keep the promise of investing 2% of their GDP. I saw the lecture from Timothy Snyder “the peril of slowness “ To end with, I am still worried that Ukraine may lose because Putin took the opportunity to strengthen his army. I hope the sanctions and the Ukraine tactics to target the oil industry will work simultaneously and bring the Putins regime on their knees! Slava Ukraine, Heroyam slava!

IKR. It even looked like it was parked on smooth tiles. Not a real challenge at all! I have done something much cooler, though admittedly insane. My eldest sister once owned an old Jeep that ate so much oil we drove around with a case of oil at all times. It also had a gap in the flywheel which prevented the car from starting on its own. They lived way up high in the mountains on a gravel road with steep mountain slopes and cliffs on either side. I was a 12 year old girl at the time. My 14 year old sister and I would have to push the Jeep and build up enough speed on the flat to bypass the gap in the flywheel and render the starter obsolete to get the vehicle started. My brother in law who ran beside the car with the driver's door open would jump into the vehicle, engage the clutch and try to start it. We had to do this before the sharp corner ahead, otherwise he would have to smash on the brakes and we would have to roll the Jeep all the way back and try again. Now that was thrilling and exhausting! Glad I never have to do it again. I was so glad when they got rid of that junker.

The war is waged by the ruling group against its own subjects and its object is not the victory over either Eurasia or East Asia, but to keep the very structure of society intact.”

The films told us that communists want to take over the world, enslave us and generally cause bad times upon the land. In these times, it appears the same threat remains. Perhaps, it was not communism that was the threat, but embedded Russian culture. What if you gave a group of barbarians modern weaponry? How would they behave? Yeh - It's the Russia thing. Solovyev's rants need to be shown to the 121 members of the House who failed to support the last package of aid to Ukraine. As modest as that package was in terms of the quality and quantity of equipment and ammo that will actually get to Ukraine, there's no excuse for opposing it. (That is, most of the $61 bn is to be spent in the US on military needs of the US, and is not going to Ukraine.)
That's especially true when one considers the scope of the obligations that the US committed to in the Budapest Memorandum - to "protect the territorial integrity of Ukraine" in the event of an attack. There were no limitations place on that verb "protect."

My ex's Polish mum remembers being forced by ruzzians to go to German land in the west. It wasn't a gift, it was a burden.
A gift would have been an enlargement of pre ww2 Poland.
Poland was relocated 200 miles west to expand the protective buffer for ruzzia.

Hey artur. I'm not clinically depressed, but I have extreme anxiety/panic disorders.. like I shake uncontrollably, sweat, and am prone to physical retaliation more than a majority of people. Most of the time, I just worry all the time. Even if I'm doing my best and doing a good job, I will be thinking,"I'm f****** everything up. I'm a total loser. I'm failing everyone I love...." I just wanted to share with you that I get caught up in my thoughts overwhelmingly. But I have learned a useful couple of tricks that help me and might help you. The instant that an unhealthy, intrusive thought enters my mind, I will consciously repeat a completely unrelated and positive thought in my mind. Eventually, I will be distracted away from my bad thoughts. Also, lifting weights or heavy exercise... It needs to be strenuous and difficult though. I don't know if the physical exhaustion makes my thoughts too cumbersome to worry about or if it's firing all of those anxiety/panic receptors in my brain use up all of their extra energy and make me feel more calm. But i really think this might be helpful for you. The only meds that ever really worked for me were narcotics. Despite popular belief, doctors in America are kind of scared to give people too many narcotics. I turned to drugs for a little bit, but got put in jail and had to do a lot of sleazy things to feed my addiction. With my time in jail, all day everyday, I would only obsess about how to not end up in jail or hurting the people I love anymore. I was in there for a couple of years overall. I'm still not even close to perfect. But these strategies I gave you have really helped me a lot. Sometimes I suck at employing them though. Sometimes my brain runs wild and I temporarily lose control. Practice helps a lot and takes a little time to see results. And I know with your work, it's impossible to not see the darkest sides of humanity. I really hope you read this and I hope it helps. And if it doesn't help, maybe I'll give you a couple more new English terms to learn.
