Amberley Village, Ohio Thunderbolt 1000T located in French Park

- This is the October 6th, 2010 test of the Amberley Village Thunderbolt 1000T, located in French Park. Growl = 1:52; Alert = 4:22; Attack = 6:21. I thought that this would be a good siren to record because of the fact that it was located in a park and is one of the lower mounted sirens in the Cincinnati area.
The siren and the house that it was attached to, are now gone. The replacement T-128 is down the street from this location on Section Road. It is near the intersection of Ridge Road and Section Road. - Zábava

One of the old Thunderbolt vids, and one of these which has always stuck in my mind. I keep finding myself back here!
Love how it looks gone, and just roars to life
That growl was badass
I thought that too!
Sounds like a turbocharged V8/V10 (like one you'd find in an old Chevy Nova)
Grrr

Excellent video! I love how the blower amplifies the EXTREME low frequencies, and how the thing takes off with the rotation!
“I got the whole wind down so I’ll use the whole wind down”
This is definitely a "senior" siren! Nice low pitch, and the poor thing has to stop between attacks. It spins fast enough to dry the paint if someone cared enough to!
4/5 on chopper 6
What is "chopper 6"? As opposed to the levels?

We had one of these on the police station in Garden City Michigan where I grew up. It was mounted a few feet higher than the roof, and it was good and loud, with rich, full tones that made it easy to pick out over bad weather. They replaced it in the 90's with a couple digital jobs, and theyre way more quiet. In fact, they may have replaced them since (I think). It was a good, reliable siren.
You mean they're(short for they are)

I live how the people in that house in front of it have to live with a siren behind them. 😂🤣😂🤣

CONFUSION ELEMINATOR:
The odd sound: This siren uses a 4/5 port chopper, while most others use a 5/6 port chopper.
The fast spinning: The thunderbolt can rotate at 2, 4, or 8 RPM (Revolutions Per Minute,) and this one is set to 8.
The long wind-down: There's a time delay (Agastat) in the RCM1 control box. This changes how long the rotator and blower (the supercharger) will wait before turning off when the chopper (the actual siren part) is turned off. Without this, the wind-down would not be able to be heard from far distances. The Agastat in this siren seems to be set for too long or broken.
The odd attack timing: The attack signal is controlled by wooden cams that press buttons. If wanted, a custom timed weel could (probably) be made, and there's a small chance that this siren has a custom attack timing wheel.
I think the weird attack signal may have something to do with the Agastat delay being set too long.
That growl is straight out dope.
That rotator is fast
The things swinging around everywhere! I guess you can say it's being a Rusty Crab!!
Man, that thing spins fast.
This was an older one. Can tell by the shorter rotator box. And it has a 6M blower
1:51 grow

6:21 attack
Thanks!
There are not many of these left in service now. Alot have been replaced or sitting not functional. One here in Wisconsin was in service since 1954 and was just replaced this year!
Damn! Sounds a lot like an ACA Hurricane in 4/5 port, chopper level 4. She's a spinner too!
man, this is a rare 4/5 port thunderbolt, love the long winddown, awesome video
It's actually more common for the 1000 T to be 4-5 port more common for the 1003 to be 5-6 port
come down to Minneapolis for a 4/5 a1 blower thunderbolt
You mean Agastat time
@aaronsmithbg A growl is a response to the radio signal that the EMA sends to all the sirens in the county. It tells them whether the siren is working or not.

Is it active?
Ive never heard it, so i dont assume so.
May I ask what town and state it is located at?
4/5 port Thunderbolt, too. Good catch!
it look like, its was there since 1950s
That's because it was.
My god that thing flies.
It kind of sounds like an old hot rod sputtering when it winds down all the way.
This would of been a Siren Enthusiasts Dream House to live in with thier family if both were saved but I wonder how would it have done if that ASC T-128 were to be installed in the same place and just use the old Standpipe as the support and put the canduiet on it leading to the T-128 head
Details: Thunderbolt 1000T (A Series),
High agastat time, 4/5 Port, Chopper 6 (I think) and 8 RPM
@Thunderbolt1000Tfan Thanks!
This siren has 3 motors running it. Other types of sirens only have 1 or 2 motors.
This sounds exact to the U of M west bank T-Bolt in Minneapolis
Sounds like a 4/5 port too
That poor old siren is in such a terrible state and sounds awful⚠️
At least it got replaced with a new one as the video description mentions
Great video, very healthy other than the attack cycle being a little off.
Wrong it sounds in quite a sick sounding state
Its definitely old. But that thing can sure rotate!

These were the best sirens. I’m curious as to why the Federal Signal corporation chose not to replicate the ominous original tone in the current FS2001’s. Today’s sirens are not as loud, nor do they convey the sense of urgency the sirens of the past did. Today, they sound like fire trucks.
Well probably because the older sirens weren't as reliable as the newer ones. That's just my guess.
@@FreddyFazbear-os4suthat's not going to prevent them using the same sound
@BellyJae where exactly is the thunderbolt on Anderson Ferry rd located at? address too? il b goin to cincinnati on Wednesday so i wana find it :)
If you read the Video description it will mention the Siren and House no longer exist
@stephensnell5707 yeah 13 years ago that wasn't stated in description when it was still in service 🙄🙄😒😒
Sounds like the 4/5 port Thunderbolt in Minneapolis
@Oldiesmann Thanks Oldiesmann
For a 1000 and 1000T, you can't tell the difference by looking at it. The 1000 has a higher pitch to it and a 1000T, like this one, has a lower pitch. On my Channel, there is a video of the St. Bernard 1000. The 1003 sounds the same as a 1000T, but it has solenoids attached to the top of the siren, looks likes eyes to me. The 1003 has the capability to do fire calls for volunteer fore departments. If you do a search for Thunderbolt 1003, on CZcams you will have a better idea what it looks like.

There is a mistake with the blower at the attack tone

I'm dying to hear one of these in person
@John Gabrielle L. Bautista The only sirens I've heard are 2001s and no other, yet I want to hear a Thunderbolt so bad! There used to be one I used to always pass but it got replaced by a 508
The only sirens I’ve heard in person were a 7B and a 3012

@BellyJae I'm not sure. It seemed to correctly execute the ATTACK cycle to me.
Nick Rusche no it did not
Yea I'd def say that's spinning way too fast but it's def a cool video my first I've ever seen of a counter clockwise siren really awesome though keep up the great work
It's because it's reverse wired that is what's causing it to spin the wrong way
@@stephensnell1379 no, reversed wired mean the blower in taking air in.
@@stephensnell1379 its set to 8 RPM rotation speed

The timer is set way to long on the attack signal. The siren shouldn't wind all the way down and stop for every waver it makes
I agree the Agastat is too long
Ahhhhh, French Park. Was only there once.I remember wondering what this one sounded like and now I'm happy to know its a 4/5 port!! So a correct attack cycle means it comes to a complete stop before sounding again? I know the 1000T located in front of The Farms on Anderson Ferry Rd does that :)
No it has a incorrectly set Agastat timer
Also another thing that can be very noticeable is the siren is reverse wired and rotating the wrong way
And it’s not reversed wired
@@Mitch1938I was only winding you up
That is one fast Thunderbolt! Also, it seems that you have the same issue as me with youtube, your widescreen video got stretched to fullscreen!

I can faintly hear another 4/5 port Thunderbolt in the background at 6:45. I wonder if that was the one in Reading?
That’s the c series
4/5 pitch
Reminds me of Minneapolis
I never seen a thunderbolt rotate that fast. 😮
well i already know that sirens spin fast
The reason is it's set to the highest rotating RPM which is 8
Heard some other siren in the background, probably a 1000.
What is a growl on a thunderbolt when they test it? That is a fast rotation.
Uhhh the thunderbolt siren growl sounds like a air raid siren

Do they still use this
Do they still use this ? I lived in Copiague 1960 - 1971 we always knew when there was a fire or accident I think the accident sound was several short blasts or noon time. The fire dept.was all volunteers and this was in a time before beepers or cell service .Brings back a childhood memory
It’s gone, sorry
That siren scared me lol
Sounds like it has a messed up attack timer
not the 1000T's and 1000's but the 1003 has solenoids on each side but 1000T's, 1000's, and 1003's all make different noises
