- I labeled the sirens so you all know which is which. And, as a little extra, I included a map of the locations: maps.google.com/maps/ms?msa=0... In this video you can hear many Thunderbolts, POSSIBLY a 2001 from across the river, and maybe a few new T-128's.
- Hry
"(Earrape) Missed the growl." - The beginning kind of scared me. Lol
Lol haha
@Sirens & aviation and more and me
I think this is still one of the best ambiences out there, even in 2023
You did what I wanted to do for years but was never able to get back downtown during test day. Work always got in the way lol. Thank you so much for taking this video and posting it! :D
That’s amazing being able to see that many and the distance between the sirens! It must be pretty cool when they go off.
Awesome video! Love the ambiance and love how you can see all kinds of sirens!
Sounds amazing
SWEET!!!! That's the first large city I've seen that still uses sirens! Charlotte,NC still has a Federal 500T(?) on the top of one of the old bank buildings; it hasn't sounded since the mid 80s. :(
LOL
2001: "Wheeeeeeeiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiirrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!"
T-128: "Whuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuurrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnneeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeoooooooooooooooooooooooowwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww!"
Cool! Thanks for watching and commenting! :D
I went t school there for 3 years (1996-98). I can remember sitting in class just waiting for it to go off. I love how it echoed through the hallways. Memories :)
Do you by any chance remember what chopper level it was on? What pitch did it peak at?
I am from cinci and I have seen that t-bolt and it sounds very good
Yes, I'm still here lol. Although I've left Cincinnati and have moved back to my hometown of Phoenix, AZ this past January. No siren system in place here.
Great video! I wonder how long the rotator has been broken on the federal building 1000T. I believe the SCPA 1000 may actually be 4 RPM. I know its hard to tell from that far away
Yes, it's the same 4/5 port Thunderbolt :)
Ok. Are there any good sirens to get pics of on the way up?
Cool! When does New Lebanon test? I could come up there sometime. And, if I am correct the 2001-SRN*B is at the fire station on the west side of town.
I believe it's on the BB&T bank building. I believe it's still there. I used to work security at one of the neighboring buildings and could see it from the roof. They would need a crane to take it down, but I haven't seen or heard anything about it being removed. Heck, I'd love to get it myself. I just can't afford a crane rental!
Is there a reason why the two 1000T units don't rotate and are set on low chopper settings?
This is almost like Minneapolis Minnesota the thunderbolt 1000T on 4/5 ports that's awesome :D
Sorta like it
Wow this is a historical recording! I love how you can see 4 different sirens from up there! What building did you record this video on?
Actually, there are indeed 2001's across the river, in Covington.
You guys know that nearby Covington, KY has a system of Modulators and 2001's, right? Don't they test them on the same day being near or directly across from Cincinnati?
Do they have any other rooftop t128s downtown other than taft theater ?
The building is still there. I don't know if the name of it has changed. Also, you won't be able to see the siren from on the street; it's kind of near the center of the building. When the siren was installed, there were not that many buildings there, and it was about the tallest, and in the center of the city. I've only heard it go off once, and that was on the news back in 85 or 86.
ohhh now I see it. I was too distracted by the thunderbolts badassness to notice :D
hamilton county tests their sirens in the most unusual way. they like growl them, and u have to wait a for like 2-3 minutes for the next signal, which is alert, and only lasts for one minute, then u have to wait a nother 2-3 minutes for attack signal, which also lasts for a minute, and then BAM!!! done.
Yeah its weird
But isn't that high pitch siren the one that's rotating 8 rpm? There is a video of it up close.
This video is a good illustration of why omnidirectional sirens are superior to rotating ones.
Creepy and eerie
well finally sombody got a video up high i wonder is that the same 4/5 Port Thunderbolt 1000T heard in Billyjea's old video that video is still up and i compared the two this one and his video and it seems and sounds like the timer has been fixed
Yeah it's the same siren.
Also, what time?
how far r the sirens away from each other?
The one on the city building sounds like 4/5 port.
Noah Covert It is
Yes, that would be my or BellyJae's video. But there are, and hopefully for the last time I have to say this, 2001-SRNs across the river.
Wow, so you can see all the tbolts from up there?!
It's the one clearly seen in the video at Park Place that's incredibly high-pitched and has a fast rotating speed! =P
Lytle 1000
yes it is.
I can hear the thunderbolt 1000T top of the clahoun hall
did someone welded the rotator?
it does... It's not a big D though... the 2001 is tinnier and sharper then the thunderbolts... the T128 is duller... so the bolt is kind of smack dab in the middle!!!
Is that old tbolt still there?
That white siren head (modular), was it there?
Almost sounds like a fs modulator programmed to sound like a thunderbolt
No problem! :P
we just heard one 1 day ago I was scared I live in Cincinnati
Is the Thunderbolt 1000T on the YMCA a 4/5 port or 5/6 port?
It is 5/6
Except for one thing I don't hear the Alternate Wail Modulator in this city. Weird.
where is this located downtown? i work on 7th street but my building basically cancels any noise so i never hear them,,,damn you cincinnati bell
DAMN 4 TBOLTS
beginning scared teh sheet outta meh.
Cool Ambiance You Can Hear Federal Signal Thunderbolts Federal Signal 2001-SRN
And The New American Signal T-128s
I didn’t hear T128’s, that “SRN” you hear is the park place bolt
i could text my mom while waiting for the next signal.
I could finish school by then
Nice Video 4J25
hmm wonder if Billyjae is still around on here
i think the "2001" is the mount airy thunderbolt. that one is on chopper level 6...
Well, it’s overpowered on chopper 7.
Pretty awesome ambiance, though in my opinion, all thunderbolts should be either 1000T or 1003. Single tone just makes it sound like almost any other siren, but I'm not hating it though!
Yeah that's the building, but I don't see the siren anywhere. Either it's there and I cant make it out, or the city DID take it down. Well CRAP!!! But that IS the building.
You mean the brown one? That's the Federal Building one. It says so in the video.
well and no i hear a 2001 too... but i can seriosly also kind of hear mount airys slightly...
go to oak hills high school we got a thunderbolt 1000t and it viberates the hell out the school...scares the piss out of you.
LOL That particular Thunderbolt sounds whinier than the other!
Wait so there are FOUR thunderbolts... They seem really close together too. There's a 1000 (high pitched, long wind down), a 1000T (4/5) another 1000 that rotates at 2rpm but is not audible and another 1000T that is 5/6 and reverse wired... I mean that's a pretty cool system if you ask me. Not effective by any means but cool.
The good ol’ overpowered 6M 1000 jailbar might be my favorite. Oh also, it’s on chopper 7 with the overpowering makes it like a tap setting 8 or 9.
Trains and sirens Part of Call Of The Sirens chopper 7, running backwards.
There was another one on hudihol brewery
@@deaderthandead1182 that is my favorite
The first Cincinnati Thunderbolt went up in 1953 on the current Patheon Pharmaceuticals building by Reading. The downtown ones would have gone up in 1954. All of them having the massive first gen A1 blower. The Thunderbolts and SD-10's replaced Chrysler sirens from the 1940's.
@4:36, that actually sounds like a Modulator winding down!
4:36
And I just realized something interesting; the 1000s rotate, but the 1000Ts dont!
There is one 1000 that doesn't rotate that wasn't in this video.
Hmmm That's odd.
where's the 4/5 bolt in the mix!?
I know this comment is 10 years old, but the 4/5 bolt is the city bldg. Thunderbolt.
How many thunderbolt do you see?
From this video, 4. This was taken atop the Carew Tower. There are more that can be seen but were not filmed. I went to SCPA (School for Creative and Performing Arts) and remember vividly that siren going off each month. It sounded so awesome because the building is mostly concrete, it echoed through the hallways. :)
Sounds like Minneapolis Minnesota sirens 😃
Not anymore the have Whelen Vortexs i live 10 miles from sowntowm i can hear them
Zach Janisch I know it's true they don't make Thunderbolts anymore.
Doesn't saint Paul park have a thunderbolt, I know Eden prairie if not savage has atleast one or two
Alphawolf All three cities you mentioned have no remaining Thunderbolts. And Minneapolis actually does have one left. It’s the U of M’s Federal Enterprises 1000T from 1954. I believe that Bloomington has one or two as well
Mikey yeah I knew it was one of thos3 cities surrounding the twin cities do you know if Bloomington tests in the winter?
5/6
The first T-Bolt sounds underpowered.
The chopper level was set lower .
back in the late 90s it was set on chopper level 7.

Old siren system
ahh alright. forgive me i know of the cinci sirens only through youtube... i have never been there...
4:06 i’ve seen that one in person.
Good for you I own a T-128
It's a Jailbar too. The Thunderbolts were installed in batches, some in the 1950's, some in the 1970's and 1980's. This is a 1954 model.
Didn't Cincinnati replace all their old sirens with new T-128's?
They're in the process.
Yes by now almost all are replaced.
Yeap. I just realized that Lol.
Im guessing this was recorded before the T-128 and E-Classes was Installed
freckly_BPG Games, Alarms, And More Way before
Nope. It's on Walnut and 5th.
Why dont two of them rotate?
MY thought is that they were set up to direct their sound towards the city buildings to create reverb that will cover the city. I may be wrong though.
I know these comments are old, but if there's anyone out there still curious, that is likely not the case. Both 1000T's in the downtown area at the time, (Government bldg and YMCA) at some point did rotate, I suspect YMCA'S rotator broke somewhere in the early 2010s unless the wind was pushing the horn around and the 4/5 government bldg thunderbolt's rotator broke somewhere after 2006. Hamilton County EMA stopped authorizing any repairs for any old sirens to make way for the new T-128s, thus the rotators were never fixed
@@madisoncountysirens4295 Government building Thunderbolt rotator worked during the tornado outbreak of 1999. The YMCA one definitely worked during that time frame.
naw, its not out o sync. he sirens arejust REALY far away.
I am in cnicinnatati
Oops! Sorry though you said that to me lol!
4/5 port A1 blower
+Joshua Eckberg For some reason I don't think it has a blower
+Mr.Someone obviously it has a blower. The blower could be broken though. And I'm pretty sure 1000Ts don't have A1 blowers. Only 1000s have them. 1000Ts have A2, B, and possibly C series blowers
BOB!theGMObanana
Oh yeah sorry i worded it wrong, of course it does I meant it may not be operative like the Rotator
+Joshua Eckberg And I have this feeling that if the blower was working you would be able to hear it- Even if its slightly heard
+BOB!theGMObanana ummm 1000T's do have A1's
I can here the 1000
lol yep yep.

What an awfully hideous siren ambience.
how far r the sirens away from each other?
well and no i hear a 2001 too... but i can seriosly also kind of hear mount airys slightly...
