What rpm was that RSH-10 set to?
@@milesgiorlando3116 You can calculate it by using a stop watch.
Calculate each spin by the amount of seconds it takes to make a full spin then divide the minute on the seconds it takes for one full spin to get the RPM.
@@aliultimate009 I find it impressive that a siren can actually rotate at 1000RPM. Never really seen any siren in a video or otherwise rotate that fast.

It’s not Chicago’s siren. It’s literally all over America running that signal. It’s alternate wail tone played on a federal signal modulator. Usually for severe weather.

Ah. Yes that's only for severe weather lightning. In the masses. It most likely goes off anytime a severe thunderstorm is going around.

We do test our sirens every Saturday at 11:59am during lunchtime in South Tyrol/Italy with one single brief signal. Last October the 13th, all the 570 sirens of the region have been tested simultaneously for a whole minute by the civil protection dep (1 minute modulated signal). We have different kinds of signals (fire, flood, leaks etc). Always interesting.

The reason why this RSH-10's disc is spinning so fast is because the gearbox is low on oil.
5:32 that was the siren that used to be stationed near my house. They replaced it with a model 2001 in 2016 while I was out of town. There were other thunderbolt 1000s and 2001s in my area as well as a few 3T22s. I find it neat that there are so many variations of civil defense sirens, some even making ambulance-like noises.

25:00 I love how this model is a hybrid Siren, it uses a mechanical sound off and then verbally alerts and notifies with an electronic amplifier system. I'd love to see more American companies do this with newer Siren models in the future, that would be dope! Unfortunately, that may not happen.
Might be the cost for replacing too many systems you see ... that's what i believe.
Using an already satisfying & useful system should do the job.
We have the EAS radios - TVs & phones should do the trick with the available EAS systems.

I've got this exact same high low lightning siron in my back yard to warn people about common lighting storms and hail as we're on a high point and more prone to lighting strikes, it wails in steady tone in an emergency or another storm's approaching and holds a high low tone and says "clear of conflict" aka all clear when ok, the only other time I've heard it talk was to say "test of siren, this is only a test".
And I also love how some of these cities have restored their old sirens to their former glory rather than replace it with a brand new siren. These sirens are truly iconic in their own way so it means a lot to folks like me when some choose to preserve a fine piece of history such as this
I know of one city that after one siren failed one time, they replaced all their sirens that next month

@@Aa-zp5kn Not gonna lie, I found this video on a CZcams rabbit hole, and it's more of a "huh... Neat" instead of knowing the differences. I just recognized the circle of horns as identical to the siren in my hometown.
With that said, I did look up the difference and the one in my hometown appears to be a 2T22, as the tone stayed constant and didn't have an alternating high-low (at least that's what the wiki says the difference is).
@@jrobmccoy Yes..3t22's are usually next to fire stations ETC..and since the don't have solenoids, the body is skinnier. I was really confused when I learned about the difference. They all have a really nice sound though.

Finally a siron going off in a real emergency (Lighting in this case)
The initial tones you hear at 19:17 are the same tones 911 hears in their headsets when they drop tones for calls, and each station (EMS or fire) has their own tone sound/pitch. If I had to guess, this is on top of a fire department and this is a weekly pager/tone test.

To me, there are few things creepier than hearing one of those dual-tone sirens (like the Super Sirex) from a mile or so away just echoing across open countryside. The echoes may it way, way scarier to me, I don't know why. They're not as scary close-up.

More precisely - they go off in case of danger of lightning strikes or air to ground lightning.

This is a great video because you can study different siren sounds for wherever you go.
Its interesting the effect a simple sound can have. These things are only ever played for occasional tests or when something bad is happening.

We use a majority of thunderbolts in our area. It’s so eerie hearing them all go off at the same time and slightly out of sync. One thunderbolt is bad enough, but hundreds?
