If your still curious on the actual model of siren it is either a federal signal modulator or and EOWS 612 (not sure which they sound very similar) preforming an alternate wail tone
Only other siren I can think of was the one in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia during the 1991 Gulf War when Iraqi SCUDs were hitting the city. What’s scarier is they went off at 2am in the video I saw of it. Crazy shit…

this is a modulator/DSA siren, its an alternating wail. only some sirens can do this, specifically sirens with SPEAKERS. sadly, most sirens in chicago are electromechanical, so they make the noise with a rapidly spinning chopper. alternating wails are used by sirens with speakers for water related disasters, such as the one shown here, or hurricanes (which is extremely unlikely in chicago, its only happened 17 times)
It might be an older modulator too. But it sounds like its a rotating siren... Because in the video there are points where its distorting the camera's microphone, and other times when it is kind of quiet. We might need to look into this a little bit further...
But then again that could just be the specific frequencies messing with the small cheap sensitive plastic microphone diaphragm.

Specific speaker sirens need the right controller to do this, such as the FS UV :)
Also to top that some mechanical sirens can do this, but it requires the use of solenoids, a dual tone chopper, and dampers.
I remember visiting Chicago to see my aunt and uncle and hearing this on the 2nd day we were there. It was cloudy, cold, and the winds were blowing pretty high. The sirens went off due to a Tornado Watch but thankfully nothing happened.
This is why tornados don't come to Chicago.

The first time I heard this, I was getting off the bus after work during a wild storm and my heart DROPPED lol it was so scary! I told my family that the siren must have been broken or something cuz it sounded like alien whales singing in the sky 😂 I grew up in the burbs with a siren a couple houses away so the first Tuesday of every month at 10am (not on the dot, which added to the trauma hahaha) so hearing this still makes me scared lolol

We had the same model where I grew up, twenty miles east of Pittsburgh. They activated it for multi-alarm fires instead of tornados, most of the time. It echoed through the valleys and sounded very loud, even through we lived at least six miles from the fire station. It was beyond creepy to hear more and more fire engines, then they all cut off and we're left with this distorted banshee wail and nothing else.
Just imagine this while in the middle of walking back to you're house from wherever 😂❤❤
