Hamilton County June 1st, 2011 Outdoor Warning Siren; Test Calhoun Hall Thunderbolt 1000T

- This is the monthly test of the Hamilton County Outdoor Warning Siren System. The siren I recorded today is the Thunderbolt 1000T on top of Calhoun Hall near the University of Cincinnati. Growl: 2:19; Alert: 4:48; Attack: 6:47. I only heard one other siren and it sounded like the Thunderbolt on top of the Ohio EPA which is on the other side of UC's Campus. This Thunderbolt is due to be replaced towards the end of this year (as well as all the other older sirens like this) due to Hamilton County upgrading their siren system. It will be sad to see these sirens go, but at least they are getting replaced by American Signal T-128's, and 2 I-Forces for the downtown area.

not gonna lie, the ripped screen makes it look like it's screaming.
the thing is, it's not an aca screamer!
True-
This is probably my favorite Thunderbolt video on CZcams. I love the way it sounds I wish all thunderbolts sounded like that
this is such a video! The attack is very very scary! Thanks for recording this beauty and some of the other system
I love the thunderbolt sirens
I don’t love them but they are cool sirens.
Same
@@kansasstatealerting2424 *literally has a thunderbolt pfp*
@@CentralOHSirens you do too xd
@@kansasstatealerting2424 yes
another 4/5 port thunderbolt in Cincinnati! awesome video! i have seen this one a few times before too.
They should restore that old beast😢
jack williamson ććj
@@sarahanderson4934 How old is that thing? like 60 years old???
@@R1NZER0611 they were produced from early 1950's to late 1990's so in that case, most likely
@@rainyrec They weren't made in the 1940s. The years of production were 1952-1990. This particular one in the video was most likely made between 1954 and 1958. Unfortunately, it was replaced since this video was taken.
@@Thunderbolt1000Tfan I just realized I put early 40's. What I meant was early 50's
Coolest sounding siren I ever heard. :O
Awesome video!
@murrfarms Thanks! Many of the Thunderbolts in Hamilton County are not set right for the Attack Cycle. The Greenhills Thunderbolt I recorded a few Months ago (March I believe) is also set correctly.
Awesome Nick!!! Youre good with getting 4/5 ports on Level 4 lol
Great video. This siren sounds like the 4/5's in Minneapolis, it's an epic sound. Looks like the old boy's seen it's better days though.
I would say it HAS DEFINITELY SEEN ITS DAYS
This is my favorite chopper level for the 4/5 port Thunderbolt, not even sure what chopper level it is but if all Thunderbolts could sound as scary as this I’d be happy.
Sounds like level 4, but it could be 3.
Correction: As of February 2013; This T-Bolt 1000T, The T-Bolt 1000T on the EPA Building, and the T-128 on West Nixon Street are ALL in Service...making the First Wednesday at noon, a time that if you were on the University Campus you'd better cover your ears.
Nice growl before the actual test
Does the t-bolt on top of the Hamilton fire station still work? I passed it when I was going to IKEA
Can't give enough thumbs up! I just love the old duel tone Thunderbolts!
all of they are dual toned. exept the 1000.
santi alvarez No Shit! The reason I said that is because a lot of people like the single tone 1000 better. I can't understand that! The duel tone 1000t and 1003 are way better sounding!
919hornet4me The tones aren't actually
fighting. *dual
How can I get one of the ones there taking down?
Great old siren, too bad it looks so sad. Just needs a good home and restoration. Also it's funny, most siren videos have birds chirping nearby LOL! and at 6:36 a "ricer car" goes BEEP!, then the good ole siren starts up again lol.
tweelet how do you know its a ricer?
did u really just say that to a 6 year old comment
Very nice Nick! The attack timing on this one is spot on, and that lower pitch sounds epically spooky. I guess this also settles whether this siren is a 1000 or a 1000T lol.
You mean especially
i love all the sirens
After September 2012, I saw Hamilton County EMA workers on top of the Calhoun Dormitory Building, the location of this siren, repairing it and putting it back to working condition, then I was in class on Wednesday, February 6, and they Did the Growl at 11:57 am, it was pretty loud even with the windows closed. When 12:00 hit, You could hear all three sirens.
Nope. That’s them taking it down. They always growl it one last time to kill it off.
Fire Alarms & srens that’s really sad though. It was perfectly fine. It’s just a waste of a perfectly good siren that works much better than the newer ones.
@@austinatkinson4344 Nah. A 2001-130 can outshine a thunderbolt any day.
Sometimes, you just gotta take off your nostalgia goggles and realize the downsides the older things have compared to the new.
The thunderbolt is still totally a viable warning siren, but it's fairly complex and replacement parts are going to run out eventually since they don't make them anymore.
Sirens of the Sunshine State I mean, thunderbolts are louder than 2001s but 2001s and newer sirens are still solid sirens, so you are not wrong
@@Sipex6484 nope.
R.I.P Thunderbolt replaced by a T-128
It was?
I see
YOUVE GOTTA BEE FUCKIN KIDDIN! every time a thunderbolt gets replaced. it gets replaced from these stiky 2001s and t128s and 508s. cant it just be replaced by another thunderbolt or like a 2t22 or aca hurricane
@@trainsandsirensofilinmiwi2080 Hurricanes suck, 2T22’s aren’t loud, and replacing it with another thunderbolt would make no sense at all. 508’s, 2001’s and T-128’s according to decibel ratings are louder than Thunderbolts. So they’re very useful, I wish we still had thunderbolts and all the cool sirens everywhere, but for coverage sake, it’s only fair to use more modern sirens.
nice to have another 4/5 port thunderbolt from Hamilton county on YT. thanks for the awesome video :) at around 6:40, guess someone didnt like you filming the siren when they honked at you, oh well
Shows people can be terribly annoying these days and impolite too and not very understanding either
Wow that's one of the most weather beaten 1000T's i've ever seen!
I live in east walnut hills in the condos. When they do the tests I can them all over Cincinnati and Kentucky.
Hey Nick, I noticed something about that T-Bolt siren that's highly unusual to see on them. Looks like the screen on this old thing is torn. Do you know how it got torn?
This one also looks like the horn has been replaced to. This probably happened to other tbolts to.
At least Cincinnati's old CD sirens weren't replaced by 2001s.
@nickrusche Yeah you're right, I loved how that one did the attack signal as well. Seems only a good handful of the ones in Hamilton County operate 100% correctly, be it the cycle/delay timing, or just the way they function in general (rotator, for example).
As of September 2012, this siren is deactivated, however it still remains in its current location.
Nearby sirens include: Federal Signal Thunderbolt 1000T mounted on top The Environmental Protection Agency @ 26 West Martin Luther King Drive, Cincinnati, Ohio 45220; and a American Signal T-128 at street address 14-1/2 West Nixon Street, Cincinnati, Ohio 45220. Both sirens are still in service and can be heard from the University of Cincinnati campus.
It’s gone now
Upgrading to t128 sirens. 100 sirens total. This can't find parts for these no more
I fixed it, thanks!
Thunderbolts are awesome
Wow, didn't even know there were people with an interest in sirens until about a day ago, guess anything can be a hobby. I remember these from my childhood, I didn't even know they were called anything other then tornado sirens until now. What brought me here is I remembered the unique look and sound these "thunderbolts" had and wondered if anyone else found them interesting...I guess my questions has been answered. :) Too bad my town has since replaced all of them with boring gray whatevers.
VideoGuy84 These are no longer active as well and have all been decommissioned and replaced with grey whatever's, lol.
Unfortunately because this is such a cruel world, it was replaced with a T-128.
@Videogamer52100 I'm assuming it still does. I will find out for sure though for you.
That attack is beautiful...
rip this legend sadly
2:19 Growl
4:48-5:46 Alert
6:47-7:46 Attack
I'm a UC student... this video makes me wish they didn't decommission all their tbolts. It's a shame
Id get t-121s instead of i forces but that's a different story... This siren looks hungover but sounds like a true thunderbolt!! Love it!! Classic
How about a t-128? Or a ati siren?
Same here the 2001 is a trash can on a pole... As you can tell I ♥️my tempest sirens to death but the only siren I like by fs is the eclipse 8.... But 508 is ok I think the 508 should be the 2001 upgrade
There alright not my favorite though but but there alright :)
My favorite sirens are first the sd-10 then the cyclone and then all of my ASC tempest sirens then the eclipse 8 then the fs 508 then the 3t22 and the 2t22...
The I-Force is a great siren for downtown areas because you want a siren that can be noticeably heard but not be so deafening and ear splitting like Tempest Sirens. There would be many people outdoors waking about downtown so they get good coverage while not scaring and hurting people's ears.
Thankful for two active Thunderbolts (1000T and 1003) and they aren't being replaced any time soon I don't think
They will get changed in a matter of time, everything in life gets upgraded when it has come to the end if its life and this Video clearly shows that the Siren has seen better days and it also shows that it is badly weather beaten too
@AKSoapy29 Sorry to be getting back late! It looks like that most of them are going to be refurbished and sold to some surrounding counties around Hamilton County.
Bru this older siren moving
Little bit and it stops
there 100+ sirens stand inactive to this day. wish they could operate there old system
You mean their
Not 100. Only 25 to 30 of the old system still remains.
trainman@:that's a old one it can last forever it dosent need service at all its just old school I gues they still have it.
Your annotation has a typo. You said attack instead of alert for the test at 4:46. Just letting you know.
@AKSoapy29 I don't know what they are going to do with them. They might just be scraping them. I will ask this question on the Cincinnati Area Metropolitan forum on the siren board and let you know what I hear.
Nick Rusche most are still just sitting, aren't they? I know each municipality is responsible for its own siren removals and figured most wouldn't have or spend the money to do so.
This one is gone. :(
4:47 is when it starts 2:18 is the growl
@amtrak3501 I think somebody was going to cut them off. No cops came, so that's fine with me. I was going to film it from one of the parking lots, but a guy came up to the car and said that I had to pay $5 to park. So I just parked on the street and put some money in a meter. Some students did walk past me and said nothing.
Any other videos
No.
wtf is song that
Is this one of the only tbolts that preform the attack signal properly in Hamilton County?RIP for all the tbolts that are gone.
I know, right?
Yeah. I don't like that other Tbolt attack where it doesn't get to full pitch. This sounds much better. I agree it should be the correct one
Gabe Batmanglidj There was an A1 Series Tbolt 1000T that performed the attack mode well.
I thought that only Thunderbolt 1000s had an A1 blower.
try being in oak hills high school when this goes off we got one planted right above us so it vibrates the building bad
cincysilvia8807 I've gone to both the School for Creative and Performing Arts and Dater High School. Both had Tbolt's on them. I love how the windows rattled on wind down.
Why did it stop
Cheryl Kamper growl test
Yep, no problem.
Poor rotator is struggling that much that the siren itself is having trouble turning
Cool! Sucks the 4/5 Bolt had to be replaced.
Our Thunderbolt here in Alabama are soon to be set replace in 2016.
we should create a rant against the people who want to replace em
I love tbolts
Yeah we should.
***** that would be cool
jack williamson I agree with you. Unless federal signal corporation figures out the problems that occur on them and one of them was lots of maintenance. And they should also bring back the older sirens.
Our City Hall Thunderbolt 1000 in Birmingham AL. got replaced by a FS 2001-130 in 12/16/16
Really? I've seen this before, But not offline...
Nice 4/5 port.
I love 4/5 Port Thunderbolts!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
A crappy choice for replacements. These have a sort of melancholy haunting tone that i remember back in the 60's. I would like to purchase one of these.
4:48 is where the siren starts
Does have Cincinnati has 1003 sirens
They probably did at one point but they don’t anymore.
@@kansasstatealerting2424 the mount healthy one is still there
Mount Healthy bought their 1003 from Fairfield after all of Fairfield's sirens were replaced by 2001's. It makes sense considering it's cheaper to buy a used siren than a brand new one.
2:19 growl
4:48 alert
6:47 attack
Was this in the video Day of the killer tornadoes?
ZOOMBER DINGER no
ZOOMBER DINGER I know the siren on the Mount Airy Water Towers was
Growl: 2:19
Alert: 4:47
Attack: 6:47
@thefandude21 Thanks!
What a growl 2:19
Give it a small blast.
Agreed.
Atleast it did not get replaced by a shitty electronic siren.
Mechanical sirens over electronic because they are louder
True there's a t128 there now
Is this underpowered?
Lily Dane no. It's set to a lower chopper setting.
And 4/5 port
city manager. that's how I got mine. I got mine from a small town tho.
Sounds just like alot of the Minneapolis sirens.
This thing is a 4/5 port!
Wow that siren is rare
but who would do such a thing. i mean when it go wooooo that means its screaming in sooo much pain
front screen is kind of destroyed and the t-bolt sounds like it needs to be serviced
Is this 4/5 port?
Yep
TheSpiritStingray that’s what I thought
@@thespiritstingray9359 pretty sure it's gone right? Or at least disconnected
@@TheSleepyMechanic0524 yep, its been removed and replaced directly by a T-128
@@thespiritstingray9359 darn I was kind of hoping this is one of the ones that was still up although disconnected because I know Hamilton County haven't taken them all down
Siren 1000T Hả
They should repaint it
Cool
This siren looks HORRIBLE but sounds good
Com certeza já tá demais faz
DOESN'T IT LOOK LIKE IT HAS A MOUTH AND EYES
put a speaker in it to play music
Car sound in the Begin :3
The thunder blot tornado siren is old it needs to be removed and changed a old thunder blot tornado siren
Get your grammar correct it's spelt Thunderbolt
This siren is dead it been there for 47 years
7:57
it needs restoration
The Video description mentions it was totally replaced
@@stephensnell1379 honestly didnt see that! bummer!
@nickrusche oh thats cool. i had a guy in Defiance walk up to me and started babbling about what i was doing! the siren hadnt activated yet, but i kindly asked him to be quiet since i was filming. 1st time thats ever happened to me, plus the guy reeked of alcohol, lol
Bro y Thunderbolt is in Ohio. Ofc Ohio is a scary place but turned into memes. Make sence dat dis Thunderbolt in Ohio is scary as sh!t the sound is so creepy. Did make it sence?
The screen is busted, the blower is all rusty
Acey You can't even see the blower in this video lol. That's the rotator you're seeing.
4:46 teleport to the alert signal
Moly crap this was recorded when I was born irl
I heard church bells in the beginning
This likes a Audi R8
Sounds like Minneapolis
