Piece of Cake Not really. If ditto are failed experiments, and Mewtwo isn't in the game yet, that still works fine. Just means they've started to try and clone Mew and have failed a few times, hence Dittos starting to appear

When this next update of ditto being released comes, this may mean the tests have started and a living product came out of like a time period started and if this theory is true, think about (with the evidence it honestly might be!) it just may mean that the first ditto was just created! Mewtwo isn't in the game because it's a legendary pokemon, there's supposed to be only one in the world. It doesn't make sense if multiple people all have mewtwo. Not to mention Mewtwo would single handedly be the strongest pokemon in the game and it wouldn't be fair in gym battles.

As a die hard Pokémon fan, I LOVE this theory. Even though it didn't age as well with the release of all the new Pokémon and features. From just a basic sense of timeline, it all adds up. It could even explain stuff like why the Game Freak office always breaks the fourth wall, down to why the PokéDex is ordered the way it is, even the origin of all Pokémon. Though it isn't flawless, what Pokémon timeline theory is?

Actually the theory still holds up if you think about it. We are at war right now. Mewtwo and Ditto have been made and this started the war. Us the players are like troops in battle. I’d better buy a team medallion I want out if Valor is going down

As someone who has played Pokemon GO daily since getting into the beta in 2016, this video is an absolute TRIP to watch! I am absolutely in love with the idea that GO is canon in the Pokemon universe, especially the bit about Pryce/Willow. Obviously a lot has changed, mostly thanks to updates to the app and the release of Pokemon Legends: Arceus, but this was still a fantastic watch 6 years after this game's release. I wonder if Pokemon GO has any more theories that have developed over the half decade that has passed?

You may be forgetting something. I would have to say the spark, or whatever his name is, the leader of team instinct, is perhaps the youngest of the team leaders. From appearance and personality, I’d have to say the guy is about 17-19 in the universe of Pokémon go. Lutenant surge is probably in his late 20s. Both share a knack for electric types. That’s all I have, but they could be the same person

Guys, don't shame matpat for releasing this right when ditto comes out. It just means that at this point mew has been officially cloned and failed.
Also, now in Sun and moon, the cafe guy gives you a single rare candy if you've given your pokemon any poke beans. No matter how many poke beans you've given them, you just get one.

This really is just a conglomeration of diet theories - Ditto, Rare Candies, Safari Zone, the war, and Pryce/Willow, all in one theory.
So if this theory is correct, then the timeline might go as follows:
-Pokemon enter the Earth dimension
-Humans begin researching pokemon, Mew possibly captured and experimented on
-Porygon is created
-Pokemon trainers begin to battle over how pokemon should be trained/used
-Ditto is created in a failed experiment
-Trainers discover the baby variants of pokemon and how to hatch them
------> WE ARE HERE

Well, considering game plot and the anime plot are in a different universe, we could just ignore that detail about Ash. And Professor Willow is actually Professor X Willow. Not Willow X. Just like the others. Samuel Oak. Aurea Juniper, etc. This timeline doesn't make any sense because AZ clearly stated that it's been 3000 years since he last saw Floette aka the end of the war. So, it's very unlikely that Mewtwo is completed before the war.

I'd really love a new PoGo theory, especially with everything that's developed between team go rocket and the trainer teams there isn't much lore but I think there are enough hints, like the fact the go rocket leaders all left positions in the trainer teams, that their could be a really fun episode of GT out of it

Ditto being in the game doesn't kill this theory. Mew is in captivity being cloned, Mewtwo hasn't been made yet. Unsuccessful Dittos are thrown out and now exist in the wild. Technically, Ditto being added still leaves the theory valid.

Did they actually clone a captured Mew? I would have thought they used fossils or whatever.
They found a piece of Mew's hair/fur. They used the DNA from the hair to clone Mew into Mewtwo. Only Mewtwo and maybe Ditto survived. The ones that didn't make it were CharmanderTwo, SquirtleTwo, BulbasaurTwo, and AmberTwo. Well... That is if we're going by anime logic.

One overlooked fact: how do all the Kabuto and Omanyte become fossils within Pryce's lifetime? That's impossible for them to all die out plus FOSSILIZE in only around 50 years?
Alex Lee well those pokemon have been around for a very long time, and there are possibly ancient ones that were since fossilized. they're even somewhat rare pokemon in go, and maybe the already supply of them in go was used up in the war since people usually want more powerful or rare things in life.
CallingBlueBird That ties into the pokemon anime, which Mat Pat consider to have too many conflicting canon facts. Basicly, if Ash is loosely involved it doesn't effect the canon of the games, just the show.
MatPat seems to have forgotten that the Pokedex mentions that Kabuto went exstinct over 300 Million years ago, though different pokedex seem to contradict that.
Pokemon Ruby and Sapphire Pokedex, "Omanyte is one of the ancient and long-since-extinct Pokémon that have been regenerated from fossils by people. If attacked by an enemy, it withdraws itself inside its hard shell." If this theory were true then Omanyte would need to be regenerated at a lab somewhere without the possibility of it found, even rarely, anywhere since it is "long-since-extinct."

Did you ever wonder WHY it was empty? Looking at the wallpaper, you can clearly see scratch marks at the bottom. Now, we could assume it was a dog who caused them, but the lines are in the sets of five. Dog's paws only have for claws facing forward. Let's face it. It's from a human. But the ratio is far to small for an adult. Keyword there "Adult". This is a child's room. The child was forced to be here against his/her will. The parent wants to keep him/her from harm and by doing so, the parent is psychology harmed the child.

I think the fact that Ditto appeared means that the cloning has started. After Porygon's creation and before Mewtwo's cloning. Which means that the war will start soon.

Chase Cartwright well that means that the cloning process of mewtwo has begun and soon the war
well ditto was just recently added and he probably didn't know it was coming. Interesting though, is that he could still be right. We got ditto, but no mewtwo or mew. Even more, one of the selling points for go was legendary battles, showing thousands of people in time square catching/fighting mewtwo at once. Yet Mewtwo is still absent. This could still very well fall into that time of them creating mewtwo, but not succeeding, I mean it took how many months for that to be added?

Professor Oak created the Pokedex at the beginning of Red and Blue and you (as the player) are the first one to receive it. In GO the Pokedex wouldnt exist if this theory was true. #TheoryDebunked

in this video, Matpat suggests that this takes place in the past and mentions the fossil pokemon, however it could be the opposite, it is the future, after all the fossil pokemon are revived, safari zones have taken over, gyms are simplized, and more, this is the only option I can come up with noting that mewtwo and ditto were added to the game later on.

Is the Instinct Leader? Think about it, they both have yellow hair, love electric Pokémon and the instinct leader seems to be in his teens 20-30
And Lt. Surge seems to be in his 50's seeing he had been in the great Pokémon war you have to think that since instinct was in that war (as matpat said) and if instinct was in that war and Lt. Surge was in that war doesn't that seem a little obvious.

awesome theory, I would love to see a remaster of it though for 2024. Pokemon go has so much new content, and obviously, a lot of new pokemon to catch, along with special research tasks with some more lore related to rare or legendary pokemon. I’ve played a lot of pokemon go from 2017-2020, then kinda got bored, then came back to it around 2022 or 2023, being on and off instead of every week.
