It’s the persons decision to play it or not; the game isn’t forcing them into playing the game and “causing deaths.”

But walking counter is for whole world (and also including people who did not walk but ride in their car or by bus or train or any other non-healthy way). Joy bose means that when you count deaths against saved lives you should count both either for one country or for whole world
And also, it doesn't "save" lives. It may extend their life span, and may give them a better quality of life, but it doesn't actually save lives in that way.

And the funniest part: None of those deaths are the fault of Pokemon GO. The players are responsible with their own safety. The app can't monitor their environment to keep them safe. All the app can do is to give warnings and remind them from time to time. So Pokemon GO actually saved lives more than it took lives, because it didn't kill anyone in the first place. It's your own stupidity and carelessness if you get injured while playing.

Selin Naz Sur honestly I'd have to agree. sure Pokémon go can get a bit weird when you play it in its real adictive spots and something weird happens while you play it (like someone's favorite Pokémon popping up on their grave, or somebody playing it in a hospital), but technically it's your own fault if you get hurt while playing. plus, one of the loading screens on the app says to be careful and check your soroundings.
I even remember the app telling you to 'slow down' when cycling, probably another way to prevent people playing while driving.

Correct, the game regularly will tell you if you're moving too fast and ask if you're a passenger in a vehicle. If you choose to play and drive, YOU are choosing to make that decision, the game has to just accept that you're being honest when you say you're not driving. If you play with at least one other person, ride to a location together and have the passenger hold both phones, it's not hard to do.
I'd really like to see someone do a follow-up study on those car accidents and deaths by accident. My first thought is that since accidents caused by Go would likely be very low speed (since you can't play at high speeds), the rate of death would be significantly lower than in the average car accident where there is likely to be more force behind the crash. Of course that's not taking into account the speed of other potential vehicles involved in the crash, but still...

THAT'S IT!! Literally mentioned to someone that Pokemon Go somehow seemed unsettling to me; it's because of the 'unawareness' factor! At the time I didn't think of the whole 'still dependent on staring at a screen despite getting up and exercising' factor, and I remember hearing about people DELIBERATELY bullying, even MUGGING or ROBBING, players during the first year or so after it got REALLY popular! My mom even told me that she kept hearing about this while helping a friend in Portland, Oregon, and how people should be cautious while walking the trails in parks and cities, and to be aware of one's surroundings at all times. I never even knew the game really existed by that time, but I didn't care much anyway -- Narcolepsy + College + suriving early adulthood isn't a good thing for a game with that magnitude of dedication....

I don't drive nor do I walk more .

The app tells people to stop and look out and most things within the app csn't be done unless u are near it, so all the deaths, and everything is caused by people being stupid to not put the game down. For example u fail a test that u knew about for 3 weeks, not because the test is on things u was never taught but because U didn't study. Who's fault is it the test or u, the answer...u. This is just like the game people know it's dangerous to play and drive and play or anything like that but they still do anyway.

I calculated that with an average age of 42 the number of lost years is 6864. This is worth 86 newborn lives against the 22 saved lives. So Pokemon Go still killed more people than it saved. Especially because you should consider that mainly young people play it, so the average age of death through Pokémon Go should be lower than 42 :(
Keep in mind that the paper he is basing this whole theory on, one that he already stated in the video is biased, compares an /average/ with true data. If there were 2500 accidents in 2014, and 3500 accidents in 2015, the county's average would be 3,000. If in 2016, there were 3,250 crashes, technically, there is a difference of 250 crashes. But what is also true, is that there were 250 LESS deaths than the previous year. Because of this, the way the data is presented could tell a completely different story. To add to this, there were so many variables unaccounted for in this theory, that it's honestly a disgrace to statistics. Taking data from a single county in Indiana and extrapolating it to the ENTIRE USA is completely silly. The extrapolation didn't account for weather, regional differences, or any other thing that may impact the data. Of course there will be more Pokemon GO related crashes in a county with winding hills and unpaved roads, since it requires a lot more attention to drive on them, where as in the middle of Texas, where roads can go straight for miles at a time, it's much less likely that someone distracted by an app would get into an accident. This theory is a massive reach and honestly feels like Matthew is trying to milk Pokemon for its popularity again.
Additionally, he's not factoring in the people who died into his data. The people who died while playing Pokemon GO themselves have an impact on the data. If a person was shot while trespassing playing Pokemon GO, that person was probably a lot more likely to commit a crime such as trespassing without the game. A person with that sort of lifestyle likely doesn't have a lifespan average of 79 years (like Matthew claims in his theory). If 50 people died while playing Pokemon GO who had an estimated lifespan of 30 years, that would skew the data A LOT. These are all things that must be considered when researching a topic, and Matthew has decided to completely ignore them. The video idea on its own is an extremely poorly thought out one, as it's almost impossible to gather the data required to form a proper conclusion. TL;DR: Matpat's bad at statistics this theory is bogus.
He said it helped with health and longer life, but since Pokèmon GO is mainly a kids game, you cannot accurately show that data, because kids when the game came out are either teens or still kids. I understand there is older people and adults that play it, but it is mainly kids.
