    It's the age-old question, one of the biggest mysteries of our time: WHO are the animals in Metroid and should you SAVE them or LET THEM DIE?! Today I'm tackling this intense question with science and some deep lore from Super Metroid and Metroid Fusion to figure out who these little guys are and why they're even there in the first place. Only then can we figure out whose side they're really on!

    • @alexwall3065
      @alexwall3065 Před 7 lety +23

      The X infected samus while she was on zebes with a group of biologic researchers, then when she became unconscious, biologic surgically removed parts of samus's suit, sent it over to the biologic research lab, where they reproduced and took over, and that is why samus was sent to the lab. this is in the very opening sequences of the game. Please play the game next time.

    "It's never explained how the x got on the station" Samus got infected, her suit came alive while on the ship, and released the parasites. This is explained in game.
    Also, the suits abilities are designed off of the creatures, not the other way around.
    And the game tells you twice that they aren't infected.
    And, Samus has Metroid dna in game, which is why the x act violent towards her instead of infecting her. If the animals were infected, they would attack her.

      PETA will never be not stupid, it’s a leaf, he is getting the supposed “skin” from a leaf, he isn’t skinning a tanooki and wearing it’s skin, if anything the leaf is to blame, Mario is just grabbing these power ups for they help defeat bowser, he may not even know that this leaf is killing tanooki’s and using their skin for his powers (which I highly doubt it does) and even then, the skin would probably not be good enough to fly (aka Mario 3 leaf/suit) or slowly float down for so long (aka literally every version of the leaf) so clearly it’s some magical leaf, because you don’t gain flight from a tail, or a decent glide, so clearly just magical stuff, or just Mario logic.

    problems with the theory, some spoilers involved
    1 the creatures are from zebes, not sr388. they could have been infected on the station but not before, unless contact with sr388 could somehow transmit the dormant x parasite, which we will assume is impossible given the opening intro, or the space pirates and samus would have spread it over half the known universe themselves. changing the canon and letting them die would only affect an outbreak post fusion.
    2 the x parasite is so destroyed by the metroid that it is repulsed to be in the same room with any hint of one. we see this many times throughout the game, attacking samus on sight or once the jig is up on a camouflage. many could have avoided samus if they chose. an sa-x even has a scene where it wildly shoots up the metroid containment section, freeing them in the process. for a supposedly intelligent learning parasite, this is a very dumb knee-jerk reaction. even if they could keep up a visual disguise and act cool, samus absorbs the parasite on contact, and i think the final shot is them hanging around her right?
    3 samus's ship is controlled by it's own ai which if it had been any other one provided by the federation probably would have left her to die, but this one in particular likely would not. either way, i'm not sure an ai would easily give up control of a ship to any unregistered passenger, whether they could pilot the ship or not.
    4 they knew by the start of fusion that the metroid was inherently lethal to the x, it's how they saved samus in the first place. they sent her aboard hoping to contain the x problem with this ability. they must have had methods of scanning for it too. odds are they would have killed everything rather than lost the station and it's research, and leading in to this side note, the chozo were totally right to not trust the federation with knowledge of the metroid. they totally called the federation using the metroid for research. every metroid appearance post metroid 2 and the baby's death in super metroid is an attempt at cloning by either the space pirates or federation, or an off site containment facility of the chozo. they wrote themselves into a corner, and always need to contrive a way in which the namesake wasn't hunted to extinction.

      Great points, however the fact that the creatures could only have been infected after escaping Zebes doesn't rule out the possibility that they could be carrying the X parasite at the end of Fusion. The creatures are as mysterious as they are cute, we're never told what role in the research they play. Why are the etecoons and dachoras specifically kept isolated from everything else on the BSL station? In both Metroid 3 and 4, the creatures demonstrate complex cognitive abilities and yet, no obvious forms of verbal or written communication. How did they figure out how to escape when Zebes was destroyed? If there is a new Metroid in the works, I really hope these creatures' stories get fleshed out. If indeed, they carry the X parasite at the end of Fusion, there is story branch that can revive the series. We definitely know that Samus's Fusion suit and her DNA has been infused with Metroid DNA. In the case of the X returning, it may be possible to reconstruct Metroids as a weapon to fight the X yet again, OR perhaps the same technology used on her would have to be distributed throughout the GF.

  • @DJFlare84
    @DJFlare84 Před 7 lety +2013

    Matthew Smith below already covered how and why the X-Parasite didn't get them, so I'll just add this.
    Why do the animals know super skills that, otherwise, only Samus should know?
    Consider, they originally inhabited Zebes, the homeworld of the Chozo.
    Perhaps they did not copy the technology of the suit, but rather... the Chozo took inspiration from the natural abilities of the ANIMALS when creating the power-suit! Thus, it is (once again) Samus who is copying THEM, in more ways than one!
    But that's just a theory, a Counter-Game-Theory! Thanks for reading!

    • @IronyNinja
      @IronyNinja Před 7 lety +133

      I think that is a more viable theory honestly. It makes perfect sense that the nature loving Chozo would derive inspiration from the wildlife on their own planet.

      I remember watching this and eating it up as actual series lore, because at the time I had never actually fully played a metroid game. Now it's honestly disappointing knowing that this theory was debunked the moment he wrote seeing as all the explanations can be found in fusion, and just by doing a bit of research on the animals.
      All you need to do is play fusion to know that there is no possible way that they would be X infected seeing as because of Samus' new Metroid DNA the X are particularly more aggressive towards her, opting to kill her rather than infect her. Not mentioning the fact that the X would've recognized Samus' Metroid killing capabilities by the end of Super Metroid, and would have infected her as soon as she saved them. This is one of those theories that answers itself by just playing, and paying attention during the game.

      They could have piloted that.
      On why they could have piloted the ship, they were stated to be intelligent, and both Samus and Adam didn't give a second thought to the fact that the Etacoons and Dachoras piloted the ship.

    It is fully explained within the first minutes of the game actually, the infected armor parts that were removed from Samus to save her were placed in the ship's Quarantine Bay, later on the X-parasites within the armor parts mimics the version of Samus it originally infected (ie a fully upgraded Samus) then used a power bomb to escape its containment also breaching the other x-infected creatures containers and the QB itself letting the X infect and kill everyone rather quick throughout the ship's main deck and subsequently the 6 sectors.
    Also i think the AI straight up tells you they scanned and didn't detect any X-parasites within the Etecons and Dachoras, in fact the only reason you end up releasing them its because the AI detects non-infected biosigns in a specific part of the ship's MD and tells you to go check it out hoping they might be human survivors, the AI also adds that the X probably didn't infected them because they didn't see battle potential or worthy knowledge in those creatures (kinda bs tbh though, the X are supposed to act instinctively as a hive mind, they don't selectively infect creatures because they deem them worthy, they just want to consume, proliferate and spread, besides they did infected and mimicked worthless creatures and they can also mutate them to make them stronger, so i call plot armor).

    Matpat, you're wrong for three very simple reasons:
    1: The Etecoons and Dachoras served as the basis for the technology developed by the Chozo for their power suits. They didn't copy the data, the wall jump and speed boosters are copied *from* them.
    2: Both Etecoons and Dachoras are shown to be sentient natives to Zebes. X is native to SR-388 and nowhere else. Etecoons and Dachoras were also sealed on the habitation deck in the strongest quarantine on the entire station surpassing even the hidden Metroid labs.
    3: The quarantine prevented the X-Parasites from detecting the Etecoons and Dachoras on the habitation deck. Their habitat is double locked down after all. While all other areas only sport single lock downs that don't isolate them from the other regions. The habitation deck's quarantine is completely isolated and sealed.
    Then there are two more complicated contributing factors:
    1: The Etecoons and Dachoras has strong identifiable lifesigns, something all X-Parasites coppies lack.
    2: The Etecoons and Dachoras are also linked heavily with the Chozo. Meaning that they're also linked to the Metroids. If they were X-Parasites then the Metroids in the first game would have gone far out of their way to eliminate the Etecoons and Dachoras. Since they didn't and the Etecoons and Dachoras survived to appear in the third and fourth games in the time line... The Etecoons and Dachoras are absolutely not X-Parasite copies. Considering the bio-weapon designed to destroy the X did not target the Etecoons and Dachoras. Where they were known to do so in their native environment of SR-388.

    • @natsume-hime2473
      @natsume-hime2473 Před 7 lety +72

      A final note: The Etecoons and Dachoras are not the source of the X-Parasite infection on the station. They can't be, because they have a specialized habitat, which means they'd been on the station for quite sometime already. So where does that leave us? The X-Parasites only start infesting the station shortly before Samus arrives. That leaves 2 possibilities and only 2 possibilities in the canon. Either the X-Parasite invasion came with the samples from SR-388, or they came when Samus's contaminated power suit was shipped to the station. Both have a strong foundation of evidence. The initial X outburst starts in the SR-388 habitat, but only after the infected power suit arrives on the station... So either the X targeted the SR-388 habitat, because it was familiar, or they needed SA-X to free them from that habitat.

      Rhese Campbell Well, the source material is from my nostalgia window. Since the end of the NES's life to the introduction of the GBA are a large part of my nostalgia window as a gamer. Plus a lot of people infer things in science fiction the canon doesn't support. It's made very clear that the X-Parasites never had the chance to get off SR-388. Which shoots down the theory that the Etacoons and Dachoras are X replicates. Especially because the Etacoons and Dachoras are clearly stated to be Zebes natives. Another interesting bit of trivia is that the Chozo are not Zebes natives. In no Metroid game have we visited the Chozo homeworld, it's unknown where it is.

    • @natsume-hime2473
      @natsume-hime2473 Před 7 lety +9

      ***** Yeah, the X can't spread to an area that's sealed via station lock down. Samus had to unlock the single room the Etecoons and Dachoras were in. That was after all the other doors were unlocked too.

    • @natsume-hime2473
      @natsume-hime2473 Před 7 lety +11

      Michael That's a possibility, but the canon doesn't support it. The X never had the chance to infect the Etecoons and Dachoras. The parasite is detectable by the sensors both on the station and Samus's new ship. Even if the X could lay dormant, it's still detectable. The reason it was never detected earlier is because the Federation didn't know it existed, so they weren't looking for the X at all period.

    -Metroid Zero Mission features the same ship you find crashed in Super Metroid. It does not belong to forest critters. It was made by the Chozo.
    -The X-Parasite is not intelligent. It is not a hive mind capable of abstract thought. This is confirmed in fusion. Even when it absorbs and replicates more intelligent creatures the copy acts violently and off of basic instinct. One strain cannot communicate with other strains. And even if they were intelligent, Samus became part metroid.

      Here is another, replication of super skill from Serries, serpent boss sector 4. The speed boost was in it, so animals can have the powers, just different variations of it. Does this mean the dachora is infected? No. Just means that it has the speed booster power. And the chozo replicated it via technology.
      And a fun fact I can think of. Anything that Samus absorbed from the X, she keeps. As it isn't a part of her suit, It is a part of her. So in a way her suit and skin would have the same effect as she could use all absorbed abilites. Missles might be deactivated, the bombs and such might be as well. However her beams, morphball, jump abilities, speed booster, all of them have become a part of her. So after fusion even if the four of them are infected Samus is more powerful than ever before.

From a scientific standpoint, you could make the argument that the ship's scanners couldn't detect a "dormant strain" or was infected as to give a false negative. Whatever, theorize away. However from a narrative standpoint, Adam's statement was defining and unquestioning. It answered the question to provide explanation, not to introduce question, as its omission would lead to infection being assumed. Adam is also highly unlikely to have lied to her so the Galactic Federation could have the animals as samples, since if he was still following orders he would've kept Samus in that Navigation Room instead of unlocking the hatch. So long as the writers had good storytelling skills, Adam's statement was correct and should be considered canon in my opinion.

      The x parasite didn't exist until metroid fusion came out and doesn't exist in any other game before or after. The baby saved Samus because when it hatched in front of her, it viewed her as it's mother and followed her around wherever she went after samus decided not to kill it. This is why Other M obnoxiously threw "the baby" in our faces every 2 minutes. Originally, the metroids were to be eliminated simply because they were a massive threat that fed on everything they could, and in all the games, including Fusion, still function the same as the first ones back in the 80's. Personally, i love Fusion, but i think they dropped the ball when it came to revealing the metroid origin and introducing the x parasite.

I think the metroid lore would be a bit stronger if the metroids were killing machines, like they were originally, but because it was how they survived. It would be a much better, in my opinion, if the baby treating Samus as it's mother was the proof needed to convince us that there was more to the metroids than their desire to feed off of others. The way it saved samus was by taking the life force from mother brain and giving it to her before she could be killed, which resulted in it being destroyed. Now, It could just be me, but i can't really get past them feeling a bit too manufactured now, like tools.

Along with that excluding M I liked the whole baby thing, made the Metroid's seem like they were intelligent to some degree, rather then just unending stomachs. However I will agree that how there all linked together wasn't Nintendo's best work, the Metroids were made to eat this parasite, that was never found in any of there lore, or revealed to Samus, and Mother Brain never brings this up to discourage Samus, plus for a race made solely to eat this parasite the Baby was able to do other things, like replenish Samus and not kill her. There's one fatal flaw in this one that others have likely pointed out. The ship's computer specifically states in the segment before Samus restores the auxiliary power that he confirmed that the Etecoons and Dachoras were not X hosts. You could say that the ship was also being controlled by X, but the game only says that the X can process data organically, not mimic machinery. This fact alone makes the entire theory null and void.

      Also, the fact that the Etecoons and Dachoras are from Zebes, not SR388. The X-Parasites never visited Zebes as they originated on SR388. If they had been present on Zebes, then Samus would've died during the events of Super Metroid. Therefore, if the animals were infected, it would've been during their time on the B.S.L. space lab.
      Then there comes the issue of X-Parasite evolution. It is explained in the game (or at least the wiki) that the X-Parasites had a slight flaw where when they absorbed DNA and then went to another creature they would change their forms slightly. It caused new creatures with similar abilities to other creatures and new colourations. Because of this, it is very likely that the Etecoons and Dachoras would've appears different than in the original.
      Just two more problems I have with this theory. It's funny, I came to this video because of my love for the Metroid series and about haflway through I realised that this is the entirely wrong reason to watch it. I've spent far more of my life than I am proud to admit researching and learning everything I could about the Metroid series, the backstories, and all of the lore. So... I find this theory to be very far-fetched and inaccurate. There are simply too many holes that are right there in the game. Plus, X-Parasites came from SR-388 and it is kinda obvious that they weren't travelling across the universe or else we would've seen them come up somewhere else.

    The game does explain why the X never infected them. Adam scans them and deems them not infected twice. Also, Adam says that the X passed them over because the X is now are so powerful, they deemed no combat advantage in absorbing such passive, weak creatures, and the X on BSL were willing to destroy themselves and the entire station to kill Samus to protect all other X in the galaxy; therefore combat abilities were all they cared about acquiring to beat Samus, an existential threat to their species. That is why the only way to beat the X was to also blow up SR-388. Adam also suspects that the X were keeping the animals as food for later, as they move the BSL to spread more X.

    • @ZeroHourProductions407
      @ZeroHourProductions407 Před 7 lety +8

      Other M tried to be an origins story (done earlier and better with the Manga that MatPat referred to), while at the same time attempting to exist between the events of Super Metroid, and Metroid Fusion. Considering this is written by Team Ninja, it's extremely difficult to validify in canon compared to even Federation Force.
      So, my argument still stands. If you kill the animals, there's no reason for Fusion to exist, but then Other M invariably happens. But if you save the animals, Metroid Fusion has to happen; however, Other M is no longer valid canon (and **rightly so**).
      Anything that invalidates Other M as a valid entry in the Metroid timeline, has to be pursued.

    • @neildivins2844
      @neildivins2844 Před 7 lety

      Yeah, I'd rather take my chances with that horrible, *HORRIBLE* plot because I don't want Metroid Fusion to be canon.
      Metroid fusion is canon? No more Ice beam.
      Metroid Other M is canon? We get that plot being canon.
      Plus, it is VERY unlikely that the animals were the cause of the research station incedent. According to the Metroid Wiki, the parts of Samus's suit that were sent to the Research Station caused the Explosion.
      Quote: Metroid Fusion - Metroid Wiki "The SA-X, an X parasite that has adopted her form and has all of her weaponry at its disposal. It is also the source of the explosion in the Quarantine Bay."
      So clearly, the animals dying doesn't effect much. Also, Fusion only happened because Samus went on a mission with others on SRE-88, which caused her suit and her to get infected with X, which caused the Research Station incedent.

    • @ZeroHourProductions407
      @ZeroHourProductions407 Před 7 lety

      You do recall that you do get the ice beam back at the end of Metroid Fusion, right? It's what was necessary to defeat the Omega Metroid.
      As unlikely as it was that the animals are X carriers, I would rather chance it be them, and thus set in motion Metroid Fusion, than to deal with:
      - a monotone voice for Samus
      - Ms. Samus Aran having daddy issues the same way that Zelda has stockholm's syndrome
      - the proto-form for Ridley being a damn chinese rip-off Pikachu
      - the entire metroid timeline turning as convoluted as the Hyrule Historia.
      If Mario is allowed to retain a cohesive timeline that manages to keep it together even now? There's no reason Metroid can't have the same. And this, among many other reasons, is why I have such a huge problem with Other M's existence. Don't even get me started on Federation Force; that's a whole other can of worms I'd rather disavow, in spite of it having the best FPS controls for a game on the 3/DS platform.

    I like the structure of argument on this one MatPat, but there are a couple holes in your theory in regards to the canon as well as the theory itself.
    *SPOILER WARNING* for those unfamiliar with the source material.
    1.) The in-game dialogue from _Metroid Fusion_'s opening and the first few moments of gameplay actually _do_ explain how the X infestation started. The X came from the infected parts of Samus's suit (creating the SA-X), and the creatures B.S.L contracted her to capture prior to the events of the game.
    2a.) If the etecoons and dachoras were infected by the X on Zebes (Not even sure how they got there and into the pirates' base undetected), then they would have infected everything including Samus, Mother Brain, and the high-rankng space pirates like Ridley. Samus and Mother Brain are the only beings we've seen able to kill metroids in combat, and Ridey is supposedly the most dangerous being in the galaxy where only Samus is an actual threat to him.
    3.) The ship computer, nicknamed Adam, told Samus that he comfirmed that they weren't X host. It's a stretch, but it is possible that they were stealthy enough to avoid running into any infected creatures since the X have a habit of attacking first, then infecting. Otherwise, they would have no need for copying life forms such as Samus or Ridley in the first place since their gelatinous forms are nigh-indestructible. As +Natsume-Hime pointed out, "The Etecoons and Dachoras has strong identifiable lifesigns, something all X-Parasites coppies lack."
    4.) Not as important, but the Chozo were kind of right when the Federation tried to do that exact thing when they tried to capture the metroids and X parasites for use as bio-weapons.

    • @gonchalorio4674
      @gonchalorio4674 Před 6 lety +6

The X may have hacked Adam's scanner to make it fail to detect them, they hacked area 3s cooling unit after all! The could have ALL the data that was stored in the research station for all we know!

    @Felix-gm9im Před 7 lety +119

    What if the animals aren't actually infected. What if they have an immunity? Think about it this way. A cheetah can run at a speed that can keep up with some cars. And the the bird in Metroid can do what samus' suit can. But what if Samus was intelligent enough to enable the suit to inherit it's abilities, but do them better. The little bear like creature could just be a climbing creature like a bunch of other creatures. What if the only reason they can pilot something is because they seem as if their body structure is of high intelligence. I mean look at the bird's eyes and head and then look at the other creature's antenna. It just makes sense.

      to go a step further, those critters are found on zebes. the majority of metroids were being bred on sr388, for a very specific reason. that's the only known planet the x are on. logically that would suggest that's their place of origin. the X have the capacity for intelligence no doubt, and if we are to take am2r as canon (which, why not that game was fantastic) there were federation troopers on the planet meaning there was a ship there, HOWEVER that ship was totaled, and unlike zebes where there'd be a lot more tech lying around sr388 is pretty much a ghost planet with very little actual tech, chozo or otherwise, to work with, so the X have no means of leaving the planet. to suggest the Dachora and Etecoons are possesses and have been spreading themselves across the galaxy is a tad foolish. (plus if they were infected and the haunted ship was theirs, why would they need samus to clear it out? why not spread out and possess and assimilate everything on the ship?)

      2. I'm sure you'd also say that you don't have a wolf in your house, but chances are that you have a dog. even if you don't the statement still stands, the ship was looking for the variation of X that was wreaking havoc. some smarter strain in hiding would not be found because it would be different. remember the X absorbs dna, so in order to find it they are looking for that evolution of DNA, a few generations back wouldn't have the same strands, it would be missing some of the newer addons.

    Even without Metroid Dread this theory doesn't make sense, Fusion pretty much debunks it entirely:
    1.) ADAM says they're not hosts, and aren't infected because they're seen as too docile. He also scans them and confirms they're not infected, but fine. Let's pretend he's wrong and his X-detector's broken.
    2.) Samus may have exterminated the Metroids but Fusion literally explains in the opening cutscene of the game that she was given the Metroid vaccine which gives her the ability to absorb the X. That should supersede pretty much any reason for the X to let her live, because they wouldn't even need her to fly the ship. There's even a part in the game where they're willing to blow up the whole ship and kill themselves if it means Samus dies too.
    3.) Fusion literally proves the Chozo right about not telling anyone about the X, as the Galactic Federation literally attempts to capture them for "research" purposes at the end of Fusion. Now imagine if the Space Pirates, the same guys who play with vampire jellyfish and blue radioactive goo, heard of them.
    4.) The biggest piece of evidence is the behavior of the X: they want to spread fast and as wide as possible. If there were X on Zebes, why isn't the whole planet crawling with them as on SR388 and the BSL station?

  • @ProjectBloodPhoenix
    @ProjectBloodPhoenix Před 7 lety +23

    • @R4V3-0N

      Typically you use a mixture of sources, online and and physical (guess .pdf's are physical in the sense they have the information of physical objects) as well as interviews and such with primary sources and stuff.
      In this case, it's the instruction booklet, the manga, the first and second game and cutscenes, and the wiki(a) (?). Wiki btw often also has it's sources and citations at the bottom so you can easily find many more sources that way. Wiki alone word for word is a bad idea, but using it's sources to verify or reinforce is better.
      That is as much as I can help you. TBH it depends on what you are researching as that would also include trying to get ahold of people, for eg people who lived at an event who can recount it.

    • @tyraelarchangel183
      @tyraelarchangel183 Před 7 lety +1

      For a game, no better way than analyzing the game itself, you could also use developer commentary, interviews, or other written material (manuals, books that are canonical, etc).
      If you're doing a research paper I suggest you pay attention to any books you read (college textbooks), as they OFTEN contain numerous citations (take a gander at a psychology book, and I guarantee you'll find a citation on almost every page, I had a woman's psychology book in which the author cited research in nearly every sentence, the bibliography at the end had nearly 200 sources) It's incredible how many sources some textbooks use. Some technical books lack this (mathematic books I notice often have like 0 citations, or if they do it's very rare, but this makes sense since mathematical formulas and techniques and such don't normally get assigned credit, or if they do it's already so well-known you don't have to cite the source, just the "inventor"), don't get me wrong, a lot of in-depth proofs and methods CAN have sources and creators who deserve/get credit via citation, but those types of mathematical concepts are very advanced, or very obscure, that they're not normally found in traditional textbooks, those are more research paper and theorem based works.
      While I doubt the authors actually "read" everything, they still had to know where to find the book, and the excerpt that they wished to cite. This could also come from colleagues or a search (like google!) but normally there are database sites which hold real research papers, which you can then use to support your own research!

If the Metroid were created to hunt the X, it wouldn't be that much of a stretch to think that Samus could develop instincts similar to Metroids for that purpose. Plus, the computer on her ship isn't just an AI, it's the "brain" of her deceased captain when she served the Federation. When you mentioned them not being able to do those feats such as double jumping because samus can't do them without a suit is irrelevant. Humans are different than those creatures so their bodies are built differently. They could have adapted those skills to navigate the planet confusing and weird terrain. 5 problems with the theory, 1: When you return to the ship after saving the animals, Adam tells you that he scanned for X infection and said they were all good. 2: Saying that the X infection on the BSL is unexplained is wrong. The SA-X was patient zero. The Galactic federation stored Samus’ infected suit parts on the space station and it materialized into the SA-X and it started infecting the space station and it just ballooned from there. 3:The reason that the animals were spared in fusion was because they were sealed away. Adam even explains that the other sectors covered by the higher clearance security doors were unaffected until Samus opens them to progress the game. The animals were in a sealed area that was not open until Samus got them out. It looks like they just had to dodge the weak X in the main deck on the short walk to the ship. 4: There’s no way the animals are X hosts in super Metroid because if they were, the entire planet (Minus tourian because it’s the only place with real Metroids on the planet) would’ve been overrun by X. It could conquer entire sectors of the BSL in minutes. If the animals had the goal of infecting Zebes, they were doing a really bad job. 5: Saying that they came on the wrecked ship makes no sense (unless they were prisoners of the space pirates). It’s heavily implied that the wrecked ship is the pirate mothership that was blown up at the end of zero mission, it has similar enemies like the electric ball things and the trash can looking dudes who waddle around that you have to push with missiles. They only appear on the wrecked ship and on the pirate mothership in zero mission and nowhere else in the entire series. Plus the ship is occupied and controlled by Phantoon who is a space pirate, so it would make sense that he would know how to power it down.
