Lots and lots of jobs to do in April. Making compost, sowing seeds, even a bit of harvesting!

    That will be beautiful compost I’m obsessed with compost making my son has now made me 4 bays!!!😁 I’ve managed to get my swede broccoli cauliflower and kale out in between the down pours, my greenhouses are busting at the seams but I still keep sowing🙈I love your channel your so lovely and show us warts n all ❤️ take care happy gardening xxx

      Oooo yes, I’d love 4 bays but haven’t got the space. I’ve got 2 of the dalek type compost bins in the back garden for extra. Good job getting the brassicas out. I’m trying to get Kenny to build me a decent brassica cage this year (it’s a battle!) . Sowing seeds is like an addiction 🤣. You can’t have too many seedlings! Thanks for watching 😃

    looking great and productive there, sometimes people leave the end posts high on raised beds to wrap houses around and things but it can be a right hazard, my tomato plants are tiny and I started them in March like I usually do, seems we say it every year in this country but it's a funny season lol, my brother a first time grower has done much better so at least we have back ups

    • @fionagrows1848
      @fionagrows1848  Před rokem

      I’m happy the posts have gone….I’ve got the scars to remember them by!😂. I potted my tomatoes on and I’ve ended up with almost 60!😩 They’re healthy enough but small. We just need a bit of warm weather, which doesn’t seem to be on the cards for next week. Good luck with yours and your brother’s .

  • @billvalsallotments5915

    Hi Fiona you certainly do have plenty plenty of squash and your greenhouse is cracking we all run out of space no matter how hard we try
    Kenny cutting was perfect val said no your not having one of them 😂😂😂.

      I’ve just potted on my tomatoes and I’ve got about 60!! About 40 squash! What was I thinking?😂. I should set up a stall and sell them! A chainsaw trumps a hand saw every time!

      Hi Carl, the seeds are definitely slow this year and it’s not warming up next week☹️. But not to worry, it always works out!

    Hi Fiona, I can confirm that horseradish is very invasive. I'm trying to work out how to clear a patch on the allotment. Our tomatoes are very slow as well I'm assuming they'll speed up as the weather warms up. I haven't sown our courgettes, squashes, or cucumbers so I'd better get a move on. I'm like you though no space in the greenhouse. You have just beaten us to it will the leeks we have one last batch to harvest and probably freeze. I like the chainsaw close up with shavings going in all directions.

    • @fionagrows1848
      @fionagrows1848  Před rokem

      I’m glad I decided to put the horseradish in a pot then! I’ve just potted on my tomatoes and ended up with 60 of them!😂…..I thought my greenhouse was full before! Doesn’t look like we’re forecast for any warmer weather next week which is disappointing isn’t it. It always seems to work out in the end though, and every year is different.

    Iv managed to get 30 kale planted out and 8 red cabbage. Fingers crossed we don't get a cold snap!!! My tomatoes were slow as well so brought into the house and they flying kow. Aubergines jn the greenhouse again doing well but slow... my cucumbers not germinated yet but Carl's gherkins have.
    Iv set some patty pan squash off just waiting for them to germinate along woth the beans!
    I'm lagging on flowers too again not germinated yet except sunflowers.😅

      Oooo! So exciting! You’ve got loads going on! I’ve just potted on my tomatoes and I’ve got about 60!😂. Crazy! They’re so small though. It’s going to be chilly next week apparently so not what we need really. I did patty pan last year. They fruited really late, later than all the other squash.

      I’ve just potted the tomatoes on….a ridiculous number. Absolutely not enough room for any of this stuff but where there’s a will there’s a way. Cold weather!! I can’t be bothered with that! I’m wanting to get some salad in the ground!

      It’s always hard to know what to do though , isn’t it. Wait a bit longer to see if they germinate…..or plant more. I’ve found the slightly warmer weather has caused a lot of my slow to germinate seeds to pop up. Fingers crossed for yours!

      @@fionagrows1848 you should check out Jim at home grown vegetables, and his smallest compost pile. He basically uses the pots he grows in, tops them up with seaweed, grass and leaves in autumn and uses the soil in spring. He has great success. I can find the link to his video if you like. 👍🏻🤠

      I think everything is slow this year, I’m in SW Canada and it’s not gotten above 12c days and 🥶 1 to 2c nights plus we have only really had 2 sunny 🌞 days all April 🤷‍♀️. My squash have done nothing so I’m chitting some which I’ve never had to do before. It was lovely looking around Fiona thank you for sharing, Ali 🇨🇦

      @@myrustygarden Hi Ali, your weather sounds like it’s been exactly like ours. A slow start for us gardeners but I’m sure everything will catch up. I watch a You Tube channel of a couple who live in Alaska and they have just 3 months to get their veg grown. It works fine and they have huge abundance! The plants just grow faster😂.
