- I've been spending too many rainy days at the shops but have got some goodies to show you. My greenhouse is like " Attack of the Triffids ".
The roof carrots are coming along nicely, and I'm still planting seeds. - Zábava
Nice seeds Fiona, I should have got more flower seeds! I picked up 1 packet of foxgloves and lots of vegetables. Love the chickens and their noises they make.👍🤠
I was pleased with the seeds . As I said it was only the torrential rain that made me do it!😂. I suspect I might be making another trip down to see if they’ve put anything else out.cheap as chips!
i've never known so many misses in seed trays as we've had this last couple of years. it seems saving our own seed is the way forward. ...........................brian
Seed saving is definitely something I want to get into a good habit of doing. I noticed on one of Charles Dowding’s videos he has designated a whole border to planting crops that he intends to leave to go to seed. It’s a great idea if you’ve got the space as you can just plant and forget about them all in one spot. Unfortunately I don’t have the space.
It's nice to have a full greenhouse Fiona. The weather has been so unseasonal.

Hi there Fiona your being over taken in your greenhouse for sure , looks like you will get your first melons and aubergines, love how you have carried on with your carrots on the roof.
Lots of foliage in the greenhouse but not many signs of fruit so far. We’ll see what happens but if this rain doesn’t stop (48 hrs of non stop rain ) and the sun doesn’t come out I’m going to get violent! 😂.
I've had a broody hen too. I took the bedding out of the house so it's not inviting for her and take eggs away soon as. You are having a great harvest from your carrots, yay!! 😀😋
Thankfully she’s back to normal now. I thought she was never going to come out of it! Next time I’m going to get some fertile eggs for her to sit on and see if we can get some chicks. It would be a bit of an adventure!

To grow your own herbs for herbal teas is a great idea. They taste so much better than the ones you buy in the shop. Mint for example is more intense. My favorite tea at the moment is mint 🍃 with calendula 🌼 and blackberry leaves 🍃 Your greenhouse is very nice. Attached to the house 🏡 makes it more stable and I bet it stays warmer in winter 🤔 I'm still amazed how you grow your carrots 🥕 🥕🥕👍
Mint is my favourite at the minute too. I didn’t know blackberry leave were good for tea. If it ever stops raining we’ll go and collect a load although I’m already struggling to find room for all the jars!😂. The issue with the greenhouse is that it is north facing so it doesn’t really get enough sun. We manage however. Have a great week😊

Hi Fiona, our tomatoes nearly lasted until Christmas last year ripening them inside. I like the unruly nature of your greenhouse. In ours it’s the cucumbers that are taking over and making attempts to escape. I wish I could manage a lettuce patch like yours but ours would be devoured by slugs and snails.
It’s a funny thing, Martyn, but for some reason the slugs don’t visit the lettuces. I planted some little lettuce seedlings yesterday and it has rained ever since. I was expecting to see them demolished today but they’re fine. I wish I knew what the secret is!

Well some lovely seeds there Fiona. My sister has honesty plants they all look so cool as pods. They certainly cram a lot of strawberry plants in those baskets don’t they. 😂😂 she’s talking to you and wants attention 🐔🐔. She’s helping absorb the moisture out of the petals 🤦🏼♀️. So many plants they have such different names, when we were kids they were strawberries 🍓 no “what kind are they” 😅😅. Lovely update and I would love some tipping it down rain 🌞🥵🥵. I wish I could send you some rain! It’s been tipping down here for the last 24 hours and doesn’t look like stopping! I’ve never known such a rubbish July. I’ve just noticed one of those strawberry varieties has bright red flowers as well as the pink flowers on the other basket. I just hope the pretty flowers don’t come at the cost of good fruit. Hi Fiona. Great to see your girls. Was that Wendy and Beryl we saw? Your cat is beautiful. Typically laying where they shouldn't. I must get some herbs dried. I have got so much mint around I could keep myself on mint tea (or Mojitos😏) for the year. Those courgettes are very pretty. Remind me of the variety? It was Wendy and Blanche. Blanche is a bit of a half wit but very pretty!😂. The courgettes are Cousa Trieste from Real Seeds. I’ll be ordering more seed for next year as they’re such a good variety (unless I let one grow out and save the seed). My mint seems always die right back in June. It’s a bit disappointing really as even when I chop it back it doesn’t grow back very well. I hope you are missing all this rain we’re getting. It’s just going on and on. 😕.

Hooray! First tomatoes! Very exciting. As you see , I’m a long way off getting ripe tomatoes and if we don’t get some warm weather soon I’ll be getting worried! I’ve always grown herbs but never made much use of them which is daft, so hopefully I’ve changed my ways. Hope your weather is better than ours this weekend!

Carrots lookkng great 👍 iv always struggles with melons 🍈 plant grows ok but we seem to run out of good weather before we can get fruit.
Cucamelons dont do too bad.
Iv had about 11 kilo of strawberries my freezer is rammed i need another one 😂 i think they morealess finished now though.
Going to put some curly kale and cabbage for over winter in and possibly some swede
I hope you manage to get something done at the plot today but I think we’re forecast for rain all day 😩….this July has been rubbish!! I put some lettuce in the ground yesterday but I’m holding out for some better weather before I plant my other seedlings. The melons are not looking very promising and I think you’re spot on that I’ll run out of summer before they fruit 🤷♀️
@fionagrows1848 I even tried setting melons off in January growing the plant in the house then moving to greenhouse. I honestly hope you get some though but I'm useless at melons 🤣

Hi Gaynor, it was from Lidl. It was £14.99. It seems sturdy. I’m hoping to pick up another one but not sure if they’ll still have them.
