Hi Fiona. Great update and a nice potato harvest. I am like you, I am so fed up with the weather, it is now 05/08/23 and feels like its October. Take care. 👍👍👍👍👍
Doesn’t it just! I keep thinking it’s time to wind things down in the garden , then have to remind myself it’s still the middle of summer. 😩. Anyway, no rain forecast for today although it’s very chilly.
What annoys me about snails is that they often just chomp straight through the main stalk of a small plant and kill it outright. Slugs and snails are definitely our main pest problem and I’ve found the only effective way to deal with them is to search for them and remove them. Since I’ve been doing that I don’t have as many casualties. 😊
Quite cute with garlic 🧄 butter and crusty bread 🥖 😂😂. I’ve sown spinach and dwarf beans this week and some spring onion and radish 🤞. Lovely potatoes Fiona I like the pink tinge. Hope the brassicas are all ok and no slugs find them too soon 👍. Happy gardening 👩🌾 Ali 🌞🇨🇦
I wish I hadn’t stopped sowing seed. I’m starting to anticipate a few gaps in the borders and I’ve got nothing to put in them. Spinach would be good. Actually, im now going to rifle through my seeds and see if I’ve got any spinach seed to direct sow!! Thanks for the idea!
I think you have had much more rain than I have which is a surprise. It’s been damp and dull a lot of July with a bit of rain but not quite what you’ve been getting. Here’s hoping for a sunny August. Hope you’re anti slug tactics work. All the best. Mags 🌻
The east coast is generally pretty dry but I’ve never known rain like this even when I’ve lived on the west coast. Never mind , it all evens out in the end. Definitely hoping for a warm dry august, I’m not enjoying the humidity!
I’ve certainly found that squash don’t enjoy being grown in buckets. Mind you, saying that, the big leaf came from a courgette grown in a trough! 🤷♀️. Have a good week B &V 😊
Our potatoes have all more or less died back too Fiona. Plenty of rain here in July has meant the weeds and grass have almost got out of control. I see you have snails that enjoy climbing as well. Trying to protect plants from slugs and snails seems almost impossible in wet weather. We've only a few brassica plants and some sweet Williams left to plant out unless I make a trip to the garden centre.
I just can’t believe the rain! It’s absolutely poured down again here all afternoon, and all last night. We’re about to start construction of an ark! I wish I had a few more seedlings on the go as I’m starting to see a few spaces in the borders but if the weather doesn’t improve I’d be wasting my time anyway. The big question is, will the potatoes be alright in the ground with all this wet.
@@fionagrows1848 It’s been another wet day here as well. Hopefully the potatoes will survive. Our main problem will be slug attacks. See there’s some suggestions of better weather by the middle of August. Fingers crossed.
Still lots going on, all our potatos are up i was tempted to put a row in now for xmas see if that would work. Iv got no seedlings only seed to dorect sow. It will need to be done this next week i would have thought. You got a great crop from one potato plant 🪴
Actually that’s a good idea….I’m seeing some gaps about to open up in my borders and I could shove a few potatoes in. Nothing to lose! It didn’t work for me last year but if we get a good august and September I might have more luck.
I’m very jealous of your plums!😂. My broccoli is slow but steady. I think they take up a lot of space for a long time for the amount of food you get out of them. Have a great weekend 😊
@@MickyBellRoberts That is an advantage you have in such a hot climate that you have fall gardens. Whilst we do have some late cropping veg most things just grow in that short summer window that we have. I often struggle to get warmth loving things to ripen before the summer is over. Good luck!
Hi Fiona I hope to plant some brassicas this weekend, theyre a bit small but im on holiday on Monday so will probably die whillst im away if I don't. 🤠👍
Yep, get them in the ground! If the slugs and pigeons don’t get them they’ll do better than in pots. It’s amazing the lengths we go to for a bit of broccoli! I sometimes think we’re all mad!😂
@@fionagrows1848 I'm also desperate to use my new mini bulb planter🤠👍🤣 and yes it's broccoli I was going to plant out, well I think it's broccoli, my label went walkies.😂
We have had a damp July but it looked worse up North certainly making the weeds grow, what happened to the potatoes that looked as if blight had got them were they the ones ?
I’ve never known there be so much rain, especially here on the east coast we usually escape the worst of it. The potatoes that seemed diseased are still a bit of a mystery. The leaves withered away but that was it really. The few potatoes ( if any) I got from them were fine.🤷♀️. It affected a few of them but then just cleared up. A good outcome I think!
Hi Lorraine. How kind of you! We’re fine, just having a case of burnout! The weather has made gardening a struggle this year and I’ve been a bit fed up with it all. I’m going to attempt to get an August plot tour video made in the next week. Hope you are well too! Xx
@@fionagrows1848 I know what you mean we’ve had rain for god knows how long now it’s 25 degrees it’s just ridiculous this year 😞glad you’re ok looking forward to August plot tour I’ve missed you👍💕

We have had no rain in Huntesville, Texas and are burning up and melting. I have lost my whole vegetable garden. Very sad.
Ah! No! That’s terrible 😢. Absolutely gutting for you to lose all that hard work. Hoping for a change in the weather for you.🥵🌞🌧️
@@fionagrows1848 Thanks , it is part of growing a garden. I will prepare my beds for the Fall, too much other stuff to di.
