  • In this video I get Land Rover Mike's opinion on the Range Rover Classic project and we go for a test drive! While where at it, we also look at two of his engine swapped Defenders.

    Despite Mike taking the piss, myself and many others think you've done a bloody good job. You've done this with a few years on your clock, whereas Mike's done this for a lifetime. I 'built' customised motorbikes at an early age and got the piss taken out of me by ''the elders'', who would stand there and do nothing but critisize my work, diss my welding, knock my designs etc. Like you, I just turned it into a joke, or laughed along with them (inside hurt like hell though, and I wanted to give up 'cos my work was nothing else but a source of amusement for others).
    As years went on, I got better and more experienced. We were't all born with a spanner in the hand, or that we turned 5 and suddenly got a box of life experience for our Birtrhday.
    Your Green Meenie has proved itself off road, on sand, and riverbed rocks. Yes, it smokes like a hooker on a 60-a-day habit, but it's all sortable. I hope you don't get pulled over by a pissy cop for violating the clean air act and books you for ''rolling coal'' (even though it's technically not) - I say f*ck the environment and f*ck Greta (ooh...can I?). All the best from this side of the great watery divide. Dogue.

    Great film again Ludi. Good to see Mike having a good look around your RR and seeing the engines on Mikes, yes I would like to see more of the engines when you can. Cheers. 😊👍🏻

    Put some big cable ties around the upper side off the springs works fine

    L/S. Where's those rear seats mista ? Order those 20mm coil springs spacers from Downunder on EBay for C$50 and they'll keep your coil springs captive. See if it can be tuned to make 201Hp, then you'll be able to have a drag race with Lewis "GM" Hamilton and Muriel. V

      I’ll look into those spacers! And I want to keep it reliable without messing with head studs and stuff so it’s going to stay at 170hp and 280tq :) but we will be doing a race for sure! Would be awesome

    Mike says it shakes like it has Parkinsons? Well, that's because he _doesn't_ have Parkinsons! If you actually let someone _with_ Parkinsons drive this car, they would say it's like a Rolls Royce and so smooth (the shaking of driver and the shaking of the car would cancel each other out). So, a solution if you ever sell it, is to sell it to someone with Parkinsons. Hmmm, I wonder if Michael J Fox is looking for an off roader???

    Mike, is it better than a 300tdi?
    Also why are bonnet catches on that defender with the engine the wrong way around.

    • @nickboylen6873
      @nickboylen6873 Před 3 lety

      Those bonnet latches have been installed that way by LR ever since the SII. Only SI had them the other way, where the large part was in the way when working on the engine. The old way did have the advantage of draining any water so they didn’t freeze solid in winter.

      @@nickboylen6873 I have 2A which had internal bonnet latch however, after all my research prior to installing mine having removed my internal latch I never found that info. Interesting, as you said it makes much better sense to flip them for rain, snow and ice .

      @@vicious0005 They we’re generally on fitted to UK MoD vehicles and perhaps foreign military orders, and then to the Camel Trophy 110s. I haven’t seen them elsewhere. I installed them on my 109 (Stage 1/Defender bonnet to make space for a Tdi and a few other mods) and I fitted them the same was as Mike and the MoD. I put them on to replace the standard Defender latch because the Bowden cable kept seizing up with dust on a long trip on dusty tracks.

      @@nickboylen6873 fair call, yes I have a S2a 1964 with a 300tdi, r380 and Range Rover classic axles. I had to get rid of my internal catch too. I mounted them the opposite way after much research and also to limit water ingress.

    • @nickboylen6873

      @@vicious0005 , I remember them being frozen several times one winter with snow over a few days. I just held them bare handed for less than a minute and that thawed them. A bit of a sting to my hands, like holding ice cubes or snow, because that’s how cold they were, but they thawed and released that quickly.
