L322 Range Rover TDV8 long-term update. Is this peak Range Rover?

- The L322 Range Rover first went on sale in 2002 but the updated version launched in 2006 has become peak Range Rover for me. I met up with a neighbouring farmer, who also owns a 2007 Range Rover, to what makes this model of Range Rover so special.

You know that Harry is a serious man who cares for quality content when he doesn't use Jeremy for clickbait.
I really love this channel, no childish bs.
Clarkson's whole act is based on Harry
@@MrJohnQCitizen he even does a Harry impression at times😂
Clarkson noggin is on the thumbnail 😂
I had a pretty good idea that it was Jeremy that Harry was talking about though. ;-)
@@davidhall7744True but Harry doesn't use Clarkson in description! I think that's what he meant
Clarkson and Harry's garage, the crossover we always needed
Still waiting on the Harry's Garage+ Chris Harris/Henry Catchpole experience lol
I would dare say we didn't know we needed, but now want more.
I hope will see harry in Clarkson show also. Love his farming channel.
They've done crossovers in the past back when Harry was the Stig :D
Great comment 😂👏👏
My farmer friend. No name dropping here. That's a true gentleman.
Two observations. 1) This might have been the best episode of Harry's Garage ever. 2) For the first time ever, I'm wanting a Range Rover. L322, of course.
Don't get one if you aren't made of money. They are amazing driving and convenience cars, but the maintenance cost is absolutly insane. Most owners will tell you that, they love their cars but have thrown absurd amounts of money at them.
As an L322 driver, 2012 model, you must set aside £2k a year to cover maintenance, both scheduled and preventative. With that, it's been an incredibly reliable vehicle with unsurpassed levels of comfort and safety. To those driving the latest SUV and paying circa £1k a month, just who is the fool ;)
@@Tailhook69youre right. My father has been running a 2011 5.0 since it was new, today it has 140k miles on it, original engine, original transmission. He wont let it go, I think I am finally getting close to convincing him to get a last model year L405. Ill bet he will still keep his L322, he is legitimately attached to the car. And I completely understand every time I drive it.
Inc £675 road tax in the UK - well done Harry for affording one cause many cant

Two elderly farmers who are neighbours talking about their 17 year old vehicles. Without doubt my favourite video in the last few years. Great stuff. Not long enough. More please.
Agree! :)
@Jkp564
Both are 63. Many people are retired by that age. Many are Grand and even Great Grand Parents so yeah elderly.
I am still amazed Jeremy uses a Range Rover of this horrible reliability era as his farm vehicle. When money is no issue 😂

I love watching Jeremy relaxed and just chatting about cars. At a time when the world has gone completely bonkers, this is food for my soul, thanks Harry!
Nicely put, I agree.
The world has always been bonkers; this, however, is order amongst the chaos.
@@LanceEJones Yes, New World Order.
Needs to do a Harry’s Farm with him now.
My father had a Range Rover 3.6l Vogue SE, (with automatic transmission) in green. Lovely vehicle and a pleasure to drive.
Words can not describe how utterly joyful this video has made me. Just pals. Jabbering about Land Rovers and farm work. The world needs more of this. Thank you.
This is just absolute gold.
Two of the best motoring journos ever, waxing lyrical about why they think a car that we wouldn’t notice if it drove past us is the best car they own.
Both own ‘dream cars’. But this green Rangie is their jewel.
It’s poignant and a cause for deeper reflection than I can remember having after any recent car video.
Well done Harry.
Great to see you Jeremy.
The simplicity and honesty are pleasures rarely seen nowadays.
Love to see more!
This is why this is the best CZcams car channel! Goes to visit Jeremy Clarkson and doesn’t put his name in the title or the description. His wife filming, this is normal stuff for Harry. I love this guy and this channel!
He’s in the thumbnail. And picture speaks louder than words
@@jamie123b I don’t remember if I saw the thumbnail yesterday but is it possible he changed it? I don’t remember seeing Jeremy in the thumbnail when I watched this yesterday.
@@mikes7922 oh maybe. You can change thumbnails after posting I’m pretty sure
Clarkson is certainly not universally loved, despite the media telling people that we can’t live without this obnoxious man,sad that Harry is lowering the level of the channel
@@sijoy6572 we love him here in america, and my comment was complimenting and praising Harry. The fact that you focused on the Clarkson part means he lives in your head rent free.
This video is exactly why I love this channel. A collab with Clarkson thats completely casual and genuine. No clickbait or clout chasing. Harry has got to be one of the classiest car journalists on CZcams.
He definitely is ( and the most genuine)
I have enormous respect for Clarkson, Wilman, Hammond and May for what they achieved with Top Gear and I was devastated when the BBC canned it (although Clarkson’s behaviour was inexcusable). However, seeing him together with Harry, I had the impression that for Clarkson it is more about himself than about the cars. Mr. Metcalf, on the other hand, appears to have a much smaller ego and a more genuine interest in the car itself and the audience he’s doing it for.
Harry is our car dad
The 4.2 Supercharged l322 is the best car of all time!!
I'm on my second L322, it's 2011 Autobiography, had it for 3 years now. Like Jeremy says, you get emotionally attached to these despite the need to top up your 'rainy day' fund. Such a fabulously comfortable and practical car. Love it!
You do get attached to them, I just bought the identical Rover 2005 with 240k kms for 400$, it won't move in drive or reverse though
@@jessebrown9046$15k in repairs should get it running 👍🏽
It is nice of you to let some of the other local farmers come on the channel.
He seemed a bit clueless but I agree - awfully nice of Harry.
@@ringonotts, what did you expect?
@@rivergladesgardenrailroad8834 what did I expect of what? The guest farmer that Harry let on his show?
Yea. This local seems to know about cars. Someone should give him a car show
Two no nonsense men honestly discussing cars - why is this a rare thing these days?! It was a pleasure to watch! Thank you!
Because one of those "no nonsense men" is a toxic right wing homophobic, sexist and racist. I'll happily listen to Harry talk about cars to anyone but i'm very glad people like Clarkson are rare.
While they have in the background the new rangie.
And it was so non clickbait too. That's what puts Harry way above loads of other automotive channels.
Their title would be "I MeET jErEmy cLarKSon!!!!!'
That was honestly the best 29 minutes of youtube ive seen in a very long time!
For anyone who is tempted by this rave review, always remember that the repair & servicing bills for this car, which could be astronomical, are a drop in the ocean to Jeremy & probably Harry too, so venture in with extreme care, unless you are equally flush that is!
Also bear in mind the fact that Jeremy admitted his range rover is essentially totalled at this point but he fixed it past it's worth due to an emotional attachment to the car.
yep brilliant cars like alfa romeos is how I see it. hahaha
I think you are right. This goes for a lot of the bigger- and luxury cars too I guess. And what a wonderful thing to be passionate about cars and traveling to experience other places and cultures.
Don’t get a turbo version and a lot of those expensive repairs go away. The parts for these cars have gone down a lot in the past 4 years alone and it’s actually pretty fast for any repair I’ve had done. Radiator, clutch fan, and alternator done for less than 1k with a mix of used and aftermarket. Just find a mechanic friend that needs some extra simple jobs. Even the air suspension can be changed to springs for fairly cheap
Just bought myself a L322 in Australia. Came back to the UK last year for 4 months and bought one whilst home to drive. Drove it 12k miles in the 4 months up and down the country and without doubt the best car I've ever owned. So much so I've been looking for just the right one since I got back.
any issues in the 12K miles? what year did you get?
@@Spartansrule118 bought a 2006 td6 with low mileage only issue I had was that the rear left caliper jammed on due to poor maintenance from a previous owner so had to put on a new caliper and pads and discs on the rear. Other than that not any issues.
Proper car channel, no click bait, two legends of the game just shooting the breeze over a shared passion. Wonderful viewing.
Yep, no ADHD, caffeine and sugar fuelled 'OMGZ, ULE NEVER BEKLIEVE WHAT DISASTER I JUST HAD...' followed by a picture of them looking shocked. Absolutely hate it and just screams attention seeking. This is just two guys sharing their passion and even if the end result of it is a car video on CZcams, the motivation and intention behind it is just so very different.
This episode has to be a piece of history. Both men at their best, because it’s honest relaxed chat.
I new this video would inspire the sycophants to obnoxiously declare their lust for older rich white men who make them feel warm & safe on youtube. Makes me sick.
Both men who have fed well lol
well, I think Jeremy is acting a bit "snobbisch" (@13:00 about) , Harry can't get a word in at times.. but..Still one of Jeremys greatest fans..

Very enjoyable banter session. When Jeremy says he doesn't travel much now because he's been everywhere, when you stop and think for second you realise it's absolutely true. What an amazing life the guy's had.

Last year, L322, full factory stock (not armored), went over anti-tank mine in Ukraine. All 5 passengers survived. A very tought car right from beginning. Will definitely consider buying one in closest future. Got pictures of what is left from car after explosion.
Surely well built, but it might have been a lighter sort of mine? Anti tank mines rip apart armoured personel carriers weighing 14,000 kilos....

One of my favourite Harry's Garage videos to date. Two legends talking about old Range Rovers. I love it.
Harry l hope you appreciate how good that interview/chat was & it is the best thing l have seen Jeremy do for years . Just proper car talk from 2 blokes who know their stuff ,one of the most enjoyable things l have watched in years. Well done
Just a joy to see two legends together---- Harry and Jeremy! And what a wonderful SUV this Range Rover is!
In my mind L322 is the best looking generation of Range Rover. Such a classic design. ❤
Definitely.
Well Classique/Antique
Ditto. The generations after it, in my mind, are fat and blotted whereas the L322 design is more in keeping with the original design, and being slimmer, better for going down narrow lanes.
This reminds me of the old Top Gear days when Jeremy Clarkson and James May would do a serious car episode together (the Saab story, Communist era cars etc. come to mind)... Loved every minute of this video. Thank you Harry!
Oh, the SAAB story…!
@anglovirtual quite a few of Harry's cars have been used on top gear
I had memories of 90s top gear when Jeremy still had to toe the line and be a proper journalist.
They all know Harry well. Hammond also. It’s a small family, top end car journalism!
Yup, good ole days. Now of course Clarkson's pregnancy has become an eclipse in itself.
I have a USA 2008 L322 with the Jaguar 4.4 Petrol V8 and I average 22 mpg on the highway. I also take it off road. I love it. It has 133,000 miles on it. I had to replace the front air suspension and put new solenoids in the transmission, but I love it.
How much did that cost?
This was most enjoyable. I could listen to these two chat for hours. Thank you, Harry.

Banging?? Jeremy? A goat?
Yes.
I like the contrast in their styles. If you notice Harry constantly moves about when he is talking, full of pent-up energy. Jeremy seats himself on the tailgate and lets things revolve around him. I fancy buying an L322 after that.

Do it. Buy well and you won’t regret it. I’ve got two - a grey 3.6 and a green 4.4. I love them both. Not without minor faults but they are a joy to drive. (Oh and don’t do what I did and buy one for your 24 year old son 🙄). With him it’s a love-hate relationship. With me - I’m just smitten. It’s a grown up car for grown ups.
Awesome as always. Thanks for sharing and taking us along
Congratulations to this video, that has now become Harry's Garage's most viewed video! It is a reminder of how fantastic youtube and the internet can be - no clickbait, no drama, no falsehood. Just 2 passionate people talking about what they love. Brilliant!
That was a brilliant episode Harry. I loved the way you described popping to see a farmer friend, before we see Jeremy. Great to see such affection for the old L322 RR. It’s also slightly ironic how you have both ended up as farmers…. After a life at the sharp end of motoring journalism. Keep up the great work.

I am a simple man. I see Clarkson and Harry, I click like before the video starts.
This video was really enjoyable. Just two men having a good old farmyard chat. I just loved how Jeremy kept meandering the conversation to talk about fertiliser, tractors and who's who on the farm. Having grown up on a farm and driving a farm Defender (before they were called Defenders) and now owning a Discovery 5, this video was totally relatable. I'd prefer the new Defender too for exactly the reasons that Jeremy mentioned and whilst I feel that the Discovery should revert to a proper split tailgate, I am finding the fold down inner 'gate' very, very useful for the reasons that Harrry said. It surprised me how damned useful it is.
If you’re decently mechanically inclined, the LR3 and 2006-2009 Range Rovers are fantastic. They have the very stout 4.4 V8 and ZF transmission.
Isn't LR3 body off for a lot of jobs? Like the L320
Yeppp I have a 2009 RRS HSE and she’s great. Never left me stranded.
Just found your channel I have to admit I really enjoyed this video the L322 was the car I always wanted one day I have one I could have watch this all day great job 👏🏻

Back in 2019, I paid $4,900 for a 2007 L322 Supercharged with 280k miles on it. It was my 9th Land Rover purchase. It was amazing. I sold it this spring for $5k with 335k miles on it- still running great on its original engine & transmission- and with minimal repairs. It’s still on the road. I miss having one. Haven’t watched Clarkson for sometime, he does have a wonderful term of phrase, humour entwined, lovely. A couple of old mates, mutual respect, having a yarn and I’m entertained. I’m getting on too it seems.
I’ll say I think that vehicles from about 2002-2010 were peak. Good amount of tech but not over the top, about as reliable engine wise as you can make them, without all the bollocks sensors and engine monitoring crap that kills modern ones, and pretty clean looks.
I totally agree!
