Sad that I grew up in Hereford with relatives all over Wales but have never heard of Owain Glyndŵr until now. Damn you HH for being so awesome and informative.
I’m a welsh noble, I mobilised Wales against the English Fought King Henry Four because Wales abhorred English rule But my uprising, it went a bit wrong and this song tells the surprising tale. Owain Glyndwr! Welsh hero, of the hour! It all began ’cause my neighbour, a vindictive man, Baron Grey De Ruthen was spreading untrue things ’bout me! Said I was a rebel who planned to repel England’s king, Not really true but more than a few were convinced. So, I decided, to take up the mantle, was given the handle of Prince. Of Wales! You don’t have to be Welsh to feel Welsh pride. Even kingsman Henry Hotspur ended up on my side. We claimed Welsh ground, then in Hereford rain meant, The king nearly drowned, washed away in his tent. So partly thanks to Welsh weather, I was crowned, think I’m gunna dance now! I had great plans for new government, new law and churches. But Henry the Fourth had dried off and revenge was his game. We were defeated, he blocked supplies to Wales, Our crops failed and starvation came. Owain Glyndwr! My family sent to the tower. As Welsh towns fell, and we all know that never ends well. So I disappeared but my name is revered throughout Wales. Owain Glyndwr! Father of the fight for Welsh power. Welsh legend holds that should Wales ever need someone bold. I’ll rise up to help them, I’m due, I’m six hundred years old! Henffych well i’are arwr mawr Cymru Owain Glyndwr!
I'm guessing none of them (lol) however, the pronunciation of Owain Glyndwr's name is arguably correct because they are most likely pronouncing the Anglicised version of his name (Owen Glendower), it being easier to rhyme and all
Horrible histories team- actors, set, staging, editing, direction… all so talented. Love the visual jokes and the little nods to other songs and what the actors can do with a line. This is one of my favourites
In fairness, he's speaking the Anglicised version of it, so he's not entirely wrong in his pronounciation of it, as this is what the English forces would have referred to Glyndwr with at the time. Plus its probably a lot easier to rhyme owen glindower than owain glyndwr. I'm just glad it was covered here tbh. Learning about him in history lessons in school was so bloody boring, but I've repeated this song that many times in the past few days I've gone and researched loads more about him and fuck me the mans a legend. So for that, I can forgive the Anglicised pronounciation
0:07 "He is Owain Glyndwr!" 0:12 "It's not unusual!" 0:57 "From the green grass of home!" 1:04 "We were ready to fight!" 1:50 "So, what's new pussycat!" 1:57 "Thought that he'd help himself!" Rest is just harmonies with Jim. There you go!
I’m convinced they wrote this song solely for Jim so he can finally show off his sweet vocals

Jim deserves A LOT more love he is so talented and underrated. His King George performance was my favorite when I saw the show as a kid, I wanted to watch him all day. I despise the antiWhite BBC but Jim is wonderful.
Sad that I grew up in Hereford with relatives all over Wales but have never heard of Owain Glyndŵr until now. Damn you HH for being so awesome and informative.
reminds one of Tom Jones 'Delilah' (certainly explains the Welsh link)
It is.
Years Later And I Still Listen Too This Great Song About Whales Great Farther Of Welsh Power
*frantically searching for trc related comments*
Been waiting for this song!
jim has such a great voice!
I’m a welsh noble, I mobilised Wales against the English
Fought King Henry Four because Wales abhorred English rule
But my uprising, it went a bit wrong and this song tells the surprising tale.
Owain Glyndwr!
Welsh hero, of the hour!
It all began ’cause my neighbour, a vindictive man,
Baron Grey De Ruthen was spreading untrue things ’bout me!
Said I was a rebel who planned to repel England’s king,
Not really true but more than a few were convinced.
So, I decided, to take up the mantle, was given the handle of Prince.
Of Wales!
You don’t have to be Welsh to feel Welsh pride.
Even kingsman Henry Hotspur ended up on my side.
We claimed Welsh ground, then in Hereford rain meant,
The king nearly drowned, washed away in his tent.
So partly thanks to Welsh weather,
I was crowned, think I’m gunna dance now!
I had great plans for new government, new law and churches.
But Henry the Fourth had dried off and revenge was his game.
We were defeated, he blocked supplies to Wales,
Our crops failed and starvation came.
Henffych well i’are arwr mawr Cymru
Owain Glyndwr!
I love the line about the welsh weather as a person who has lived in Wales all there life the rain never stops raining
mat's eyebrows always get me
I'm guessing none of them (lol) however, the pronunciation of Owain Glyndwr's name is arguably correct because they are most likely pronouncing the Anglicised version of his name (Owen Glendower), it being easier to rhyme and all
I get that bit they could at least pronounced the actual welsh sentence correctly😂 still fair play to them for trying
Horrible histories team- actors, set, staging, editing, direction… all so talented. Love the visual jokes and the little nods to other songs and what the actors can do with a line. This is one of my favourites
his voice is really amazing and so variable
Oh-ain (ain rhymes with time) Glin-door (oo like the Ooooooo of a ghost)
In fairness, he's speaking the Anglicised version of it, so he's not entirely wrong in his pronounciation of it, as this is what the English forces would have referred to Glyndwr with at the time. Plus its probably a lot easier to rhyme owen glindower than owain glyndwr. I'm just glad it was covered here tbh. Learning about him in history lessons in school was so bloody boring, but I've repeated this song that many times in the past few days I've gone and researched loads more about him and fuck me the mans a legend. So for that, I can forgive the Anglicised pronounciation
Yeah but it had to rhyme with Tower so
@@shononoyeetus8866 of they went with the Welsh for tower it would work 🤔
But I want to hear them rhyme Glyndŵr and tower 😂
It dies not end door. It would be do-r
'Delilah'.
Also 'What's New Pussycat' and 'Kiss' :)
HE'S BRITISH THE PRONOUNCATIONS ARE ANGLICIZED THEY'VE DONE THAT BEFORE love love love Jim though
why do I find that change at 1:18 so funny
Gawd, Jim! You have PIPES!!! :)
I need subtitles for the men in the background.
Jim howicks-the singer
Mat-the background singer
Ben-the background singer
Simon-the background singer
0:07 "He is Owain Glyndwr!"
0:12 "It's not unusual!"
0:57 "From the green grass of home!"
1:04 "We were ready to fight!"
1:50 "So, what's new pussycat!"
1:57 "Thought that he'd help himself!"
Rest is just harmonies with Jim.
There you go!
Incase anyone was wondering, the phrase Jim says at the end is "Hail to the great Welshman Owain Glyndwr"
im sat here watching all the songs from horrible historys in one go
🤣🤣🤣🤣
