- Languishing away on CBBC lurks the best sketch show the Beeb have made in years - HORRIBLE HISTORIES! Here's just a tiny nugget: the 4 King George's of the Georgian Era as a Westlife-like Boy band.
I love how George II gets a little teary when he says he fought with his son, as though it was some kind of treasured family tradition :'D
It’s a misconception in this song that George II and George III were father and son... they were actually grandfather and grandson.
The family honours that tradition too this very day actually. Their head Prince Ernst August has been fighting with his heir for years now 🤷🏻♂️
George II had a rather poor relationship with his son Frederick, which certainly did not help his relationship with Frederick's son George. In fact, one of the George vs George fights (George wanted George to move away from his mother, marry a Bunwick-Wulfenbuttel or Prussian, and establish himself at Hampton Court) was so bad that George III never returned to Hampton Court

That might seemingly imply that George III was the son in question, when in fact George II's son was Prince Frederick, who died earlier than him, while George III was his grandson.
George II was also the one who died on the toilet, not George I.

He could be Charles IV (assuming his granddad uses Charles when he takes the throne) or William the IV, Henry IX or even Arthur II (they're all in his full name).

Yknow, George III was actually a lot more likeable than you'd think. He was driven mad by pain from a condition he had and his son (George IV) dunking him in ice baths and keeping him in straight jackets. The last thing he ever did was forgive him too, poor guy

Yep! Part of the reason George IIIs reputation is so marred was because of smear campaigns brought about by nobles who *hated* the fact George III took genuine interest in "common people". They made it sound like "Farmer George" rolled around with pigs, when in reality, he was just interested and fascinated by agriculture, animal breeding, and the natural sciences. Plus, he could converse with everyday people without being a totally intimidating/smug git.
He did suffer from terrible illnesses and bouts of mental instability, but he was *not* some unhinged loon. Take one look at his ledgers & correspondence from the time and you can see just how intelligent & precise that man really was. He definitely made mistakes, but parliament & the nobility hated him more than the people themselves ever did.
