My son promised me too play it at mine . Keeping up the family tradition of doing something happy at a funeral . I played 'We Went Dancing Across The USA 'by Lindsay Buckingham from National Lampoons Vacation at my little sisters wake in memory of all the family vacations we had fun driving my older sister nuts on and the time we watched the movie about 20 times in a row because it was one of the first VHS we ever had . Sabra I love and miss you so much .
I found this song at a very low point in my life. Not for me specifically, but for the ones I love. My mom was diagnosed with cancer, and then lost her job, which ended up going down a dark path to which she got addicted to meth and anything she could get her hands on. My brother was suffering from massive alcoholism. My dad and stepmom were on the verge of divorcing. Everyone I loved and cared for was going down a dark path. And when things seemed darkest, I would just play this song. I would stay in contact with everyone throughout the years. I was able to put my mom through a really good rehabilitation center. She's now 5 years sober and I've never seen her healthier and happier. My brother ended finding an amazing woman and is now 3 years sober. My dad and stepmom have gotten their dream careers and thier marriage has never seemed stronger. I know the message of this song is different, but what this song means to me is that when Life is feeling like shit...just look on the bright side of life.

When I was a young teen here in the USA, my friend and I would sing this phrase in our church youth group after (Lutheran) church on Sunday. @Timothy Mostad and how do you know that heaven isn't real? Not that Im religious or anything but you cant just make assumptions with no evidence. Evidence of absence? It can be used for either side.
@Timothy Mostad My point is not that was is said in the bible is what happened. Just because they say "God" or "Allah" exists doesn't mean that they do. Im saying that just because we cant see or detect a higher being that may have been around for 13.8 billion years. They might not even care about us, they might have just created the universe and let it do what it wants to do. We could be living in a simulation and everything you know could have just been programmed into you, the universe could have been made to look the way it does as to give the illusion of age. Maybe none of that is true and there is no higher being or maybe theirs a different sort of higher being. You have nothing to prove that there is or isn't a higher being/realm and religious people have nothing that says there is a higher being/realm. We can only have a chance of finding out by continuing to go deeper and maybe we'll find an answer. You cannot assume anything in this case, evidence of absence is a stupid rule and should not have been created because creates an implies bias towards one side of an argument and bias is not good for results.
@Timothy Mostad You make claims but with 0 evidence. You say that we created the gods but you dont know that, you have 0 evidence to prove your point. You dont know if we have a soul or not (I personally believe that we dont but theirs no way to prove it). There is actually a lot bias in what you say because you are going off the assumptions of your own opinions and things that you believe. To fully understand and argue about this subject you must throw away every single assumption. It has actually been proven that a lot of things in the bible have happened. It is true that Jesus existed, not that he necessarily did what happened in the bible but he did exist. A lot of the artefacts mentioned in the bible have been found and proven not be fakes. Please define "outdated" for me in these terms as religion cannot be outdated. It fits in every time period to those who have faith in religions. This is evidence of your bias towards your opinions because it says that you make the assumptions off of your own opinion of religion. Im not religious but nor am I stupid like you. Making assumptions especially based off of your own opinions is the most stupid thing you can do when trying to argue. Stop being an idiot or go argue with people who just as bias as you.
@Timothy Mostad SEE LOOK AT YOU MAKING ASSUMPTIONS! So, how do you know that a higher being didn't create evolution? You are basing your entire point off of what is said in the bible which still may not be true which is why you cannot have assumptions. You don't recognise any other well known religions judging by what is said in your arguments. It isn't even the bible that says this, it is the interpretations of creationists. When you said "I dont force anybody to think for themselves" are you implying that religions do and/or that you have some kind of power? Obviously its irrational to be afraid of learning, but that depends on what you define as irrational as most people who are bias towards there own opinions typically refuse to learn about the other side of the argument or even embrace it to have a greater understanding. You have 0 evidence towards their being no higher being under any circumstances even that of the unknown. If you want to talk about normal then heres something for you. 87% of Australians a faith or belief (a higher power) therefore making atheism abnormal in Australia which in terms of percentages is similar to other western/1st world nations, you abnormal piece of shit. Back to my other point about not knowing if the soul exists. You mentioned that Jesus cannot save souls but that is under the assumption that souls do not exist which you have "thought up" because you cant see them, thats why flat earthers think the earth is flat. They cant see the horizon therefore FLAT. Obviously the Earth is not flat and we have evidence to prove this. We have proven for sure due to our advancements in technology and we need to advance further because that is the only chance we will have of discovering the truth or the falsity of religion and the soul. This is an incredibly difficult argument to have because religion is a man made structure but also because we are referring to different entities when we talk about a higher power or faith, I am referring to any possibility of one where as you seem to be mainly in reference to the beliefs of creationists which btw are a very small but loud percentage of the Christians.
Timothy Mostad >nobody knows why the universe began >it was not on purpose Lol, you realize how stupid that is right? Until science has a complete understanding of how the universe was created you literally can't make a substantial argument for or against God.
hey me too! whenever people are violent to me or back when I was a prisoner of the human traffickers who were raping me and repeatedly trying to murder me, I played this song ... they couldn't stand it so they set me free ...LOL and now I am alive rather than drawing my terminal breath ;) yay *whistles the song* I think they especially hated the part where he says "Always look on the bright side of death" because they wanted to be completely hopeless and miserable directly before I was murdered by them, but I refused, and they couldn't handle that I was ok and cheerful some of the time. I was definitely hopeless some of the time. Just not permanently like they hoped I'd be.

After some years i finally got the true meaning of the song to heart, the absurdity of everything in the world is really laughable and fretting over it is even more funnier. If you ever stopped to think "why" for something and it doesn't make sense and it seems like it never will, and you feel bad about it, just laugh. There's nothing more funnier than realizing it never really mattered. And eventually even thinking about it would be absurd on its own and make you laugh looking back that you ever even thought like that before. This song is about moving on and making peace with everything in your heart.
That is very touching to hear. My best wishes to Syria and all Syrians from the UK. I hope you will see a new dawn for your country after all the terrible hardship and suffering.

Im happy for you my friend! Ill be wishing things improve for you and your loved ones always ❤

This is British mentality in a nutshell.
Timothy Mostad
>nobody knows why the universe began
>it was not on purpose
Lol, you realize how stupid that is right? Until science has a complete understanding of how the universe was created you literally can't make a substantial argument for or against God.

Eric Idle, what a creative guy. This song picks me up!
