I like that they have a whole chorus for the whistles.
And five thousand persons in the Royal Albert Hall...
Professional whistlers
The audience is the chorus.
@@olbradley I only noticed after your comment that Eric is practically conducting the audience along with them
i believe you mean choir .
"Keep em´ laughing as you go, just remember, the last laugh is on you." Genius.
It sounds like something The Joker would say.
I want there to be a comic strip now where he sings this...
vinzhell Yes!
Monty python gets so absurd and dumb that it becomes pure genius
What it means?
Godspeed Terry.
Without you, the world would have been a little less absurd.
He's not the messiah, he's a very naughty boy!
You can always look on the bright side of life whistle whistle whistle.
"A fish, a fish, a fish, a fishy ooo.
And it went.... wherever IIII... did gooo!"
poor Terry's mother
😁😁😁😉
Rest in peace Terry Jones. A true comic genius
0:32 - 0:38 " *Some things in my life* are *so, so bad* ...😮💨😔 They can *really makes you so sad* ...☹️😔 Other things just *makes you swearing and cursing, like a potty mouthed sailor* ...🤬⚓️"
0:42 "When *you're been chewing on a life's gristle, don't ever grumble* 😒, just *gives it a whistle* ...😚🎶!"
0:47 "And so, *this'll helping things turned out for the best of times* 😚👍 and *always look on the brightest side of your life* ...🌄😃!"
this must be the most possitive thing to ever come out of england
of course well agreed
The only positive*
We're a miserable bunch of people
+Charlie Turner It's all the rain.
the beatles
simongosimon well we did make America.
That's strangely heartwarming.
Eric Stevenson Even more heartwarming. I was singing this in class and as I got to the chorus and started to whistle. Suddenly I heard another person whistling turns out it was my teacher. Singing this in class with my teacher. Well there are still teacher‘s with humour.
Even more heartwarming when juxtaposed against pictures of a couple dozen people being crucified. Some of them for crimes they did not commit.
Eric Stevenson

oh so true and sweet! I love it ;-)
For such a dark song
The last two Iron Maiden concerts I went to they played this song at the end. Happiness is listening to thousands of metal heads whistling to this on the way out of the O2.
that is so awesome eh!
I mean... Bruces’ real name is Paul but he’s called Bruce because of the Bruce’s sketch
Same. I could imagine the prisoner in Hallowed be thy Name at the gallows whistling this song as I left the concert.
The first time I saw Iron Maiden was in Bangalore, India in 2007 (A Matter of Life and Death tour). They played it as the crowd was filing out then too.
Ha!!! Love it.
The year is 2020, the world’s in the middle of a pandemic. Whistle, and sing along! 🎶
Well, you should always look on the bright side of life!
Eh, not the middle yet haha, still have awhile to go unless they get that vaccine haha
@@EinfachErwin ~3.2 million total cases world wide, 225k+ deaths and counting (and that's just the ones they've tested). In the US, its killed more people than the Vietnam War in under 16 weeks than it took the war 20 years to do. It is a pandemic.

Always look on the bright side of life and death!
This has to be the worlds most optimistic song.
@@mattsmith1518 Optimism without awareness is just delusion, I think the fact this song is realistic enough to be honest makes the optimism more genuine :)
play this every morning on your way to school or work, no matter how shitty the day is gonna be, this song always helps
"Lifes a peace of shit, when you look at it" doesn't help much
Absolutely!!☘
that's true mate ;-)
like a cup of tea
This one and "Don't worry be happy" could turn any day around :-)
True
"Terry Joens can no longer speak- but he can still laugh" a perfect yet heartbraking example of this songs message
“Life’s a piece of shit, when you look at it” always makes me laugh 😂
That’s so true. 😂😂
I love how happy Eric is at the end. That's a smile you can't fake.
Clearly loves what he's doing. I don't know how you couldn't (unless fame brings you down), I think entertaining people is one of the funnest things you can do on this earth.
He's just done the most fantastic performance of a song that has given comfort to millions. He deserves that smile a thousand times over.
I think this song is Eric’s gift to humanity.
As well as everyone in the audience. I just scared my dog by whistling!
Bagpipes... And here I thought the song couldn't get any better than it was. And then they added bagpipes and proved me wrong.
At which minute?
+losFondos at 2:59 is where the Bagpipes come in.
MachRacer4
I don't know why people hate bagpipes. I like them!
There is something pythonesque with those bagpipes coming in.
no kidding its monty python
Little did he know when he wrote this that it would be played in the Albert Hall, a packed Albert hall, lol
Or the Olympic stadium in London
Need this now,
My grandpa just died.
That man had a sick and perverted sense of humor. I think this is the song he would want.
Rest In Peace. Im sure he was a legend
Hope you're feeling better by now!
hOW IS HIS VOICE EXACTLY THE SAME AS 40 YEARS AGO
This song makes me not afraid to die. The day when I finally am about to leave the world, I'm just gonna relax and think of this song :-)
Dude chill out. That comment is morbid as shit.
It's true as hell dude. Every time when I listen to this song I have exactly the same feeling like the dude above. This song makes people not afraid at all.
If only I could whistle as I go...
'Last laugh is on you'
lol i think death is the release it's life i fear
Last week this song was played as the last piece of music at a very sad funeral of a young woman died on cancer, I'v attended. Everyone was asked to sing and whistle along while the casket left the room and it was unbelievable, it was a cheerful ending and all of us were laughing trough our tears. It really was her last wish. Best funeral music ever. And now, seeing Eric singing it brings joy and sadness simultaneously.
😊I got Tingles ✝️ reading your Comment 👍
Same here. I want this sung at my Funeral,
This song is sooo Good, but when i heard the news terry Jones died this song made me cry so hard.

International Anthem of Optimists, thank you
ZOLLINO I think you completely missed the point of the song
@@pussywithteeth743 To look on the bright side of life that's what optimists do
Pessimists too, this is what leads them through their long stretches of pessimism.
@@andrewcahill05 again, missed the point completely. No optimist would say life's a piece of shit, they don't see that part. Looking on the bright side of life here is more about stoicism than it is about optimism, you know shit is going to go down, you might still enjoy it since nothing really matters. Again, that's not how optimism works
@@pussywithteeth743 What you just described is exactly what I call optimism
I'm gonna play this at my funeral too
zombie fabiola.
lol
same
Same XD
Same for obvious reasons haha
My uncle had this played at his funeral. He insisted on it for years and it got some strange looks from anyone who didn't know he wanted it played. Would've made his day seeing their reactions.
I think it's wonderful that happened.
R.I.P Terry Jones,
Not dead but simply pining for the fjords
He's not pining, he's passed on!
He's an ex Terry Jones
Love the way he says "KEY CHANGE"
I suggested this for the inspirational song at our end of year assembly. Every child there refused it but my new favourite teacher overdid them and I got my song
+Oscar King posting here because i wanna know how that'll end up =)
Democracy for you
+Wolvenworks it went great most of the audience sang along and whistled
+Oscar King
I'd listen to this 100% of the time rather than listening to EDM shit they might put on.
+Oscar King I know the feeling, most people at my school didnt know what Monty Python even is
"... Life's quite absurd and death's the final word. You must always face the curtain with a bow..."
Love that line.
Thank you Terry Jones you were a great person
"For life is quite absurd
And death's the final word
You must always face the curtain with a bow
Forget about your sin - give the audience a grin
Enjoy it - it's your last chance anyhow
So always look on the bright side of death
Just before you draw your terminal breath"
Rest In Peace Graham Chapman :C.
I’m sure he’d want us to go on whistling ;)
Tylko nie trollface
and to think the Pythons sang this at Graham Chapman's funeral, too.
I mean, would be crazy if they didnt... . They are and will be the best comedians ever imho
I love how happy Eric is at the end. That's a smile you can't fake.
"Keep em´ laughing as you go, just remember, the last laugh is on you." Genius.
comment theif lol
I love how all the other soloists are remaining relatively still whilst Eric is waving his arms around and having such a great time lol
The soprano seems to get into it and start jigging after a while...
this is my official life anthem
My dad wants this as his funeral song!💗
+Niamh Harrison - I requested Jungle Boogie.
+Niamh Harrison honor that..
+Niamh Harrison then he wakes up and sing along
+Niamh Harrison apparently he's not the only one...... It's a popular funeral song among baby boomers.
came here by exactly the same topic.
”Life’s a piece of shit” 😂
I think Monty Python were fundamental in showing me that everything can be seen with a pint of humor, with a bit of happiness no matter the situation. And I´m grateful for such intelligent, funny and amazing people you are, and for all the beautiful things you´ve brought to the world.
When my mother passed I wore a pair of yellow converse sneakers with a dark suit. The next day all my brothers who were paul bearers wore their own colored sneakers. As we were leaving the church everyone was looking at our feet and you can her people laughing. Just the way my mom wanted it.
this is why I love comedians. Now that's a good philosophy, you know? I've heard every other, and this is the most intelligent. Comedians are the smartest people ever.
You obviously haven't heard every other
but quite a few.
Anyone think it would be funnier if they'd just labeled an Urn "Brian" and taped a speaker to it that played his lines?
I would have come across as disrespect for some people
Please, the Monthy Python are like the Mickael Jordans of disrespect.
Do you not remember what this movie was about???
@@petrosmoudatsos1928 Go and watch John Cleese's eulogy for Graham Chapman, and you will see how wrong your comment is.
@@petrosmoudatsos1928 Those people probably shouldn't be watching Monty Python.
I just don't know why, but I started crying while I'm listening to this song. It's just so heartwarming.
If I die during this lockdown, I'll definitely play this song before I die.
Whenever I feel deppressed, anxious, and feeling taking myself out, I always go back and listen to this. It instantly reminds me to stand up, brush myself off, then go forward. So to everyone else out there that are dealing with personal things that you don't talk about, just hang in there and may the Allfather be with you all thru it.
Glad you're still with us, random internet stranger :).
I was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis about four years ago. When I take a downturn in my prognosis, I think of this song. It allows me to focus on what I have, not what I am losing. Thank you so much for sharing this sing-a-long. It helps more people than you could ever imagine.
Karen Kitchen I wish you well in your fight.
Hiyah Karen, I hope all is well. I hope you still are the bright side of life for all who love and think of you. ❤ ❤
You come from Nothing and you go back to Nothing. What have you lost? Nothing!
I hope you are doing well ma'am
My best wishes to you and your loved ones.
Hugs. Fight on.
It's always a challenge in of itself trying to not at least smile when you're listening to this
another challenge is not to whisle along to the song
@@pedroff_1 well you see, that isn't a challenge for those who can't whistle.
And yes I am replying after 2 years, I'm sorry.

But its well deserved too
2:48 the amount of pride coming from him from this song he made in 1979. He deserves all the credit.
One of the best songs of all time. Period :)
TheJaviferrol It's hard to believe creator of this masterpiece wanted to sue british soldiers for singing it when their ship was sinking after a missile hit it.
+Ondřej WHat a load of shit! You're saying Eric Idle sued soldiers for singing the song?!? No way!
Provide some proof.
ROOKTABULA
It's just an information I read on czech/slovak movie database:
Píseň "Always Look On the Bright Side of Life" si zpívali i námořníci HMS Sheffield, když se potápěla po zásahu raketou ve válce o Falklandy. Idleův návrh, aby Pythoni námořníky žalovali za porušení práv, nebyl realizován
You can transtale it on google, it's in czech
+Ondřej It's "in Czech" and it's wildly "in-correct".
ROOKTABULA
Well how am I supossed to know? I read it on trustworthy website, so I believe it. Why should I believe you instead?
Eric looks like he is loving every moment. I wonder if he thought that song would be so popular 40 years later.
THIS is what the world needs now! Tough it out and things will eventually get better.
A new addition to my funeral playlist...
Along with Going Underground, Highway to Hell, Ding Dong the Witch is Dead, et cetera et cetera
May I suggest Man in the Box and Down in a Hole by Alice In Chains?

Poor ones...
it's because they are shit and got offended by the words usage in the song
maybe they can't whistle.
My grandad asked for this to be his sending off song at his funeral. It was almost as if he was telling us to cheer up because he's in a better place now :')
No song in British history has ever brought so many people together as this
That's strangely heartwarming.
Depends which country in Britain. Come to Cardiff on a rugby day and you’ll see 100,000 Welshmen sing, Hen Wlad Fy Nhadau, Hymns and Arias and Delilah in absolute unity.
THE WORLD EFFING NEEDS THIS RIGHT NOW!!!!!!!!!!!
I introduced this song to a friend who was stuck in the hospital for weeks, and thought she might like it.. and now she's posted this song because of the bleek world we live in now.. and i realized, damned, now it's our turn to need this song!!!!!!
If History had ended there, it would have been the best ending possible.
I have lost count how many times this songs cheers me up.
Truly a masterpiece
Monty Python: An entire concert hall sing-a-long, with multiple hundreds of people and glo sticks...... Brilliant !!!!
Dear God, I really hope that all the Python team realise and know just how very much joy and happiness they brought to people and how very, very much they were loved. Irreplaceable,

True. Been stressed out with a whole month of unpaid overtime. Remembered about this song yesterday as I was walking home, and now I've been singing it 368x since yesterday.
Hey it’s been 5 years, you doing better?
Me and my friends saved up our money. And got to see this wonderful show live at the Royal Albert Hall! We loved every single second of it! Trying to sing along without laughing and crying! 😁
I loved Terry Jones singing and the whole Choir behind him putting Mining Helmets on.....because his Welsh! And Terry Gilliam's very small solo in one of the most operatic songs of the Opera!🤣
I had a really close friend who passed away young. He was in the Army Reserve, a deputy chief in the fire department and an amazing husband and father.
He loved this song. Last time we saw each other as I was leaving the hospital I could hear him start to whistle this from his room. Of course I joined in. Our last laugh together was this song.
